  • This time I have a break from welding and take a look at a fresh set of YZF600r bike carbs, then go over of how I instaled them onto the 2.0 Pinto in my Capri and try to get it running again. This was filmed in February, but if you'd like to keep more up-to-date just head over to my Instagram page below.

Have a lil 1400 Datsun Pushrod motor (14A) , Been running all sorts of weber untill i found a set of mikunis ( not Sure which bike it came from )
been Searching for jet setting and heard guys had probs with idling and blockn off the air Correction would seem to solve THAT prob
Question : Did you leave the pilot jets standard size ..and only up the mains to 155 ?
also what size would u recommend for my lil 1400 ( 288 camshaft )

Bang up install, is that a SOHC 2000 or 2300? I have a fuel injected 2300 in a 1995 US Ford Ranger and I'm absolutely done with chasing sensor issues and I haven't decided if I'm going to use a single 2 venturi downdraft or 4 sidedrafts..

Thanks! 4 years later I'm still running the same carb setup, and they've not needed too much work since. Definitely a worthwhile mod. Oh and it's a SOHC 2000.

Do I need to fabricate a new throttle cable to run a bike carb or not? Also do I have to use a bike fuel filter or can I just use my stock filter?
Car is a Peugeot 106 by the way

I'm not at all familiar with the Peugeot 106, but I'll try to help as best I can! Throttle cable depends on whether the end of your original one will reach the spot where it needs to attach to your bike carbs. You'll likely need to use what's called a "solderless nipple" which fixes to the end of the throttle cable and allows it to attach to the carbs. You can often find bike carb throttle kits if your original isn't suitable.
Original fuel filter will be fine, however it's the fuel pump you need to worry about. You need to have low fuel pressure, around 3psi. This can be achieved with a fuel pressure regulator. I use a Malpassi Filter King, which has a built in filter, but you can get them without. The problem is, even at the right pressure some fuel pumps can flood the carbs, in which case you might need to fit the little electric fuel pump from the same type of bike. I'm by no means an expert, but I hope that helps!

HI. Hope this is not a daft question... Did you have to upgrade the fuel pump when you put on the bike carbs and if you did what fuel pump did you use? I'm assuming that you don't need quite the pressure that a fuel injection system requires!

Not a daft question at all! There's a lot of debate about what's best to use, but I kept the original mechanical fuel pump and fitted a fuel regulator set to about 1.5psi. Bike carbs need no more than 3psi of fuel pressure, and ideally about 1.5psi. Most people suggest fitting an electric pump from the same model bike that the carbs came from, or at least an electric pump that supplies a fairly low pressure. The Pinto fuel pump with a regulator between the pump and carbs is fine, but on another engine I'm not sure how the mechanical pump would manage. To be on the safe side I'd say look for a fuel pump from a bike. Obviously if you were going for bike throttle bodies with fuel injection it's a completely different ballgame... which I know nothing about!

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly... much appreciated. Just starting into a kit car build and its a big learning curve so thank you for setting me in the right direction on at least this issue.

Do you know what year of bike these carbs came off of?

The carb sets I've bought came from 1998 Thundercats, but I'm pretty sure they used the same carbs from '96 to '03. You can find useful info about different bike models and the carbs they use here www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/bikes/Yamaha%209.htm
