    I didn't have that exact camera but your video helped me to install a camera on my fiance's car, so thank you! It was such a relief and so satisfying to see the camera working after all that work to run the wires, solder, tidy up, and put everything back together. I know nothing about cars so just disconnecting the battery had me scared lol. But I did it! And I made sure to do it all properly. Now he can enjoy having a backup camera (I don't think I could go back to not having one). Great tutorial!

    Thanks a lot. I was able to install it. Just one thing: you do not need to open up the 2 big bolts on the backncover. You can route the cable around the back seat.

    this video also demonstrates why toyota is one of the best makes, if not the best, out there because not only are they reliable but the little maintenance they do have, the engineers make it easy to take things apart, easy and affordable to replace, and easy to modify. you don't need special tools like for some other makes, looking at you bmw.

    Just did this today. Worked great. I used all solder connectors so it was very solid. The adapter to the radio had an extra male video RCA connection so I taped that up as well as the ground behind the radio.
    Cleaned up all the wiring and it works perfect. Thanks for posting the video and the link for the parts.

    Thanks for the video! .. I ran the cables under the center console, then under the back carpet, back seat, following of the trunk cable.
    FYI put the camera in the center and do not wire it to the reverse lights.

    I wish you clearly went over the wiring on this. I bought the cam and the wiring in your link but I think I’m missing something. I don’t know where you got that female video cable that goes into the trunk. There is only a male video cable that came in the cam box that you said goes to the display. A more detailed description of the wiring would’ve be very helpful because I have no idea what I need to do now.

    Great video! I'm trying to troubleshoot my camera which isn't turning on anymore. I'm not getting any power from the back of the radio. My harness routes from pin 7 on the radio harness connection to the camera power wire which has 0 V right now. Should that be getting power any time the car is on? Wondering if my radio unit is faulty.

    This is the most thorough video I've seen on this: thank you! But do we really have to take the entire car apart to run the wire? I didn't in my last car, but you could still see a bit of the wire. I guess this is how you do it professionally?

    • @travisgrindal
      @travisgrindal  ปีที่แล้ว

      The radio must not be getting the signal from the camera anymore. You can check the voltage at the camera side and see if it is still getting 12v. If it is, then the camera itself may have gone bad.

    Thanks for the instruction. I ordered and installed to my 2014 Camry today and it work. However, the harness I ordered from your link does not have power wire from the unit to the camera, they only provided stuff to tap to the backup light power, so I ended up run my wire from unit, using the unit's provided 12v power, all the way to the camera.

    • @travisgrindal
      @travisgrindal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The long wire I used was built into the RCA wire that came with the Yi camera. The harness only has the short wires that come out of the adapter that comes out of the radio. Behind the radio under the dash, I connected those short wire-harness wires to the long wire that came with the camera which ran to the back of the car. Anyway, good job getting it to work! I use mine all the time.

    • @DungNguyen-ru5kg
      @DungNguyen-ru5kg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@travisgrindal In my case, the camera long wire only has video wire but they provided climps/taping for if I wanted to get 12v from the reverse light. Thanks for the video again, very helpful.

    • @travisgrindal
      @travisgrindal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DungNguyen-ru5kg Please let me know if that works. Some people said that they had problems doing that. When the car goes into reverse, it then powers up the camera. Some times the camera takes too long to start sending a video signal to the radio. If the radio has to wait too long, it assumes there is no camera feed so it does not change the display to show the camera view. If that does happen to you, you may have to find a constant 12v power wire to tap into. Please do let me know if you use the reverse power light wire and if it works. Thanks!

    • @DungNguyen-ru5kg
      @DungNguyen-ru5kg 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@travisgrindal Hello. I do not use reverse light wire, but I use my separated wire cut from my wire pool with larger gauge, I connect that wire from the new harness adapter from the unit all the way to the trunk and that worked just fine. The camera wire which came with the camera only has video wire goes that far to the trunk, there are two shorter wire each end for 12v power which I used one at the unit.

    Hi there
    I have a question. Do you remember how many wires attached to the radio connector on your car?
    I installed everything according to instruction and it seem like camera works at the beginning, but after certain time I cannot switch camera off even when I return gear stick to the parking position. On the top of it I've got "Check engine" and "tracking control off" pop up on the panel.
    I suspect that something is wrong with the ground. In your video I noticed that you have 2 wires in the connector (correct me if I'm wrong) but in my car there is only one, the red one.
    Please help, I just don't want to burn everything by connecting black wire from harness to the body.
    Thank you!

    • @travisgrindal
      @travisgrindal  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I did the same thing but wired the camera to the reverse light in the trunk, but if i dont put my car in reverse right away after i start my car the back up camera wont work.
    It only works when put it in reverse right away after i start my car.

    • @travisgrindal
      @travisgrindal  ปีที่แล้ว

      The radio only checks for a short time for the camera signal. In your case, the camera does not receive power until your reverse lights come on. If the camera itself takes too much time to start sending the signal, then the radio basically times out and assumes the signal isn't coming. If you connect the camera to a power source that is always on when the car is on, the backup camera should work consistently for you.

Seems like working. I need a suggestion, I see mirror image in my monitor. Is there any way to see real images in my monitor? There are 2 wires, one is for guidelines. Another is for changing from cvbs to AHD. And I don’t know what does it mean.

    I can’t seem to get the camera working. I plugged everything how you did yourself but the screen isn’t turning black or anything just staying on radio when switch to reverse

    • @travisgrindal
      @travisgrindal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it is not switching to the camera, the radio is not seeing a camera connection coming in. The first thing I'd check would be that you have a good ground connection. Other potential problems may be that the camera is not getting power or one of the wires going from the back to the front may have a break in it. The camera could be broken, but that is probably not-likely. Check the voltage in the back at the camera and make sure it is reading at least 12 volts. If it is good, you can try to test the continuity between the other wires. Maybe one got damaged during the install or maybe it came broken.

    • @travisgrindal

    • @travisgrindal
      @travisgrindal  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When the screen stays black, that most likely means that the radio is not seeing the video signal anymore. The camera probably has a broken ground or power connection. Double check the wires to make sure they're still connected.

    So the 12v that is supply from the back of the radio is constantly on meaning the camera is constantly on? even when the car is not on reverse?.

    • @travisgrindal
      @travisgrindal  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it is always on. If the camera is powered on and off using the reverse lights power, there is a chance, the camera will not output a signal fast enough and the radio will time out waiting for it and not show the camera's output.

      Use a volt meter to make sure you are getting power back to your camera. If you connected the power to the back of the radio, it should have voltage all the time. If you tried connecting it to your reverse light, it is not going to work all the time. If you're getting voltage to the camera, it may not be working. You could try to connect the RCA output to a TV screen to see if it is working and outputting a signal.
