The stalk I have has a brown/red wire on pin 11 switch seems to go to the horn according to the bentley schematics. On pin 10 there is a blue/green wire that goes to some block but is not attached to the stalk itself. However there are 2 wires coming out of the stalk itself on that connects to 'pin 9 on the block' which is where the brown ground wire from pin 1 ends, the other goes to 'pin 11 on the block' and when the button on the stalk is pushed there is connectivity between those 2 wires (multimeter). Can I just solder that blue/green wire to that 'pin 11 on the block' and make things work?
Hi! You are making things complex, but it's fairly easy. You simply need to wire PIN 4 of X1071 to PIN 10 of X32 connector, like described in the video. Once done, the new "BC" stalk can simply be plugged, there is no other wiring changes to be done here.
@@mrnoname35 I think you misunderstood. It's hard to explain without being able to post a picture. What I meant is this, on pin 10 of the stalk side (female) of X32 there is a blue green wire that goes to some gray connector and is NOT connected to the stalk. However there is a solderpoint on the block of the stalk itself (where all the wires from the female side of X32 go) that gives continuity to the brown ground wire (pin 1) when the BC button on the stalk is pressed. I assume that if I solder that stray wire (pin 10) to that solderpoint thing would work.

Hi! This guide covers the conversion from an OBC 11 buttons to an 18 OBC. If you start from an OBC 7 buttons, there will be a lot more work. You are missing already the check module, which was an option at the time. So apart from all the steps described here, you will need to retrofit the check control module, and also the required sensors linked to it (e.g. coolant level sensor). Good luck with your project!
@@AfroTechCompany In fact, not retrofitting the check control module is not an issue, as you can deactivate the check control from the OBC. It will just do a pixel screen check when you hit the 'Check' button instead of displaying the faults. However, you will need to add extra wires to your existing X1070 connector to make your OBC fully functional. The rest is just about connecting the new X1071 connector, just like described in this video.
@@AfroTechCompany I'm not of much help here as I have never investigated the conversion from an OBC 7 buttons. Did some quick googling, and there seems to be only two wires missing from your existing X1070 connector. (cf below) I would suggest to cross check this with other online sources to be sure. www.bimmerforums.co.uk/threads/7-to-18-button-obc-on-board-computer-conversion.25509/ For the X1071, you can simply follow this video. :)

@@jimmybassa6491 I'm afraid that your problem has nothing to do with the OBC... It will never prevent your car to start. Good luck for the troubleshooting.
@@jimmybassa6491 You should know if you have entered a code in your OBC? If yes, you should enter the same code, otherwise your car will not start (engine will crank, but not start). But I precisely asked you to unplug your OBC and try to start your car, because then even if you entered a code, your car will start. If even when the OBC is unplugged you are not able to start your car, then you have an issue somewhere else.

Hi! It's related to the park ventilation feature. - For the E36 with this feature, the Black/White/Yellow cable of Pin 14 is connected to the independent ventilation relay. Via the 'Timer' button, it's possible to set a timing where the ventilation will turn on. For example, at 5 p.m just before you leave work and you want to enter in a fresh car at 5.15 pm. - For the E36 without this feature, there is no cable in Pin 14. The 'Timer' button in this case becomes a simple stopwatch. As I prefer the stopwatch function, I left the Pin 14 unused. :)

@@mrnoname35 Hi, once again, and sorry for your disturbance. So good so far, yet I can't unlock my OBC anyhow. Whenever I add the sum of the date (for example today is 15th August, that means 15+8=23) and I press SET and put test number 19 again, it still says locked. Any ideas on how to unlock it?
Thank you!
@@KraiteFTW That's the right way of unlocking it
1. Simultaneously press numerical keys "1000" and "10": Display shows: TEST NO.: - -
2. Enter number "19": Display shows: TEST NO.: 19
3. Press SET/RES key. BC display shows: LOCK:ON
4. Enter the sum of the addition of the days and months of the date set in the on-board computer (BC): e.g.: If 23.6. was set, the correct sum would be 23 + 6 = 29. Therefore, the number "29" would have to be entered in this example.
5. Press SET/RES key. The test function can now be accessed.
@@mrnoname35 So, basically, I've tried exactly your method, but If I do test 19 again it still says lock on. :/

Hello if I follow your steps would I be able to convert my obd1 95 m3 from 11button to 18 button? Is there any coding that must be done to get my gas range or average fuel consumption to work properly with my car after the install ? Like would there be specific calibrations and could that be easily done with my car being obd1?
Hi! Installation procedure will be the same, and indeed your ODB must be coded to your specific model otherwise consumption will be off. There is an engine parameter that should be changed in the ODB. (unless the ODB came from a donor car with the same engine already). Good luck!
I think someone sold me an E34 stalk and told me it was from an e36.
@@jurgenpuype9275 If you have correctly wired Pin 4 of X071 to Pin 10 X32, and you are not able to browse through the various menus via the stalk, then there is something wrong with your BC stalk.
Maybe you dont know that there are 3 types of bc stalk, not all of them are the same, what changes is ground and power connector
Hello, if the e36 does not have ews because it is older, then I do nothing with the black / green cable? That is, I do not disconnect it from connector x1071 ?? Thank you.
Hi!
If you don't have the EWS, then you can simply directly remove the Black/Green cable from the X1071 connector. (no need to have a useless cable laying around).
@@mrnoname35 thanks you for all this information and vídeo. Great job!!
hello mate. I have the 7 buttons versions, I have to follow the same steps?
Best Regards
@@mrnoname35 thanks mate. What happens If I only follow this video and not adding the check control Module?
@@AfroTechCompany In fact, not retrofitting the check control module is not an issue, as you can deactivate the check control from the OBC. It will just do a pixel screen check when you hit the 'Check' button instead of displaying the faults. However, you will need to add extra wires to your existing X1070 connector to make your OBC fully functional. The rest is just about connecting the new X1071 connector, just like described in this video.
@@mrnoname35 And which wires I must add?
@@AfroTechCompany I'm not of much help here as I have never investigated the conversion from an OBC 7 buttons.
Did some quick googling, and there seems to be only two wires missing from your existing X1070 connector. (cf below) I would suggest to cross check this with other online sources to be sure.

For the X1071, you can simply follow this video. :)
Hello , i dont know what i did wrong but my car dorsnt want to start , i did just the same thing you did , is there a code to reset or something ?
Hi!
I guess you have entered a code in your OBC? If you don't recall it, just unplug the OBC and you will be able to start.
If it's not related to the code, I guess you did something wrong and blown a fuse.
@@mrnoname35 yes sorry , i desconected the obc , left it desconected and try to start and it wouldnt start i checked the fuses the are all good , do i have to recoded the obc or my keyss , or program my car to let it know that has a 18button obc ? Im just trying to figure it out. Please help
@@jimmybassa6491 I'm afraid that your problem has nothing to do with the OBC... It will never prevent your car to start. Good luck for the troubleshooting.
@@mrnoname35 ok understand , but do i have to put a code on the obc ? For the car to strat , because the car cranks but no start.
@@jimmybassa6491 You should know if you have entered a code in your OBC? If yes, you should enter the same code, otherwise your car will not start (engine will crank, but not start). Obviously, the code function will only work if you have connected your OBC to the EWS module. But I precisely asked you to unplug your OBC and try to start your car, because then even if you entered a code, your car will start. If even when the OBC is unplugged you are not able to start your car, then you have an issue somewhere else.
Hey. I’ ve got 12v power to pin 8 (white connector) and pin 13 is grounded but obc still won’t turn on. When i give power from an electric drill battery it turns on. Could it be the amp’s or something? Thanks
1) The previous OBC installed on your car, was it working properly?
2) Did you correctly remove pin 17 & pin 18 from existing black connector X1070, and transfer them to the new white connector X1071 pin 8 & 13?
If yes for 1) & 2), then you have most probably a blown fuse.
@@mrnoname35 Thanks for the reply. Found the problem. For some reason pin 8 doesent have power (Yes i transfered it from 17/18). But i just stole power from a different pin and now its working. Not the best solution but it works i guess.
hi, i'm repairing a bmw e36 325 tds 1996, the obc keeps restarting, and not displaying any right value. for example -65 ° C of external temperature 🤣. what could be the reason ?? sorry for crappy english
Looks like a faulty OBC to me, but you can also have a look at the outside temperature sensor which is located in the cooling brake duct at the driver side. Good luck!
I'm more interested in the shelf that was turned into swithches

I have this 18button obc .. but it says always the same since i have the car. For example the top speed says 100kmph.. even when i took it to 230kmph. It looks like it does not read anymore. Do you have an idea? Have a good weekend
If you are talking about the SPEED button, it's displaying your average speed and not your actual driving speed.
@@mrnoname35 yes i know. But it doesnt change .. nothing changes. Its annoying
@@TFFSRAD Simply try to reset it while driving on the highway, and observe the new value. Since it's an average, if you have never performed a reset, then it's taking your average speed on thousands of kilometers.. So even if you drive fast for 5 minutes, your average will not change a lot.

Will this work if I got 8buttons obc?thanks
Hi!
This guide covers the conversion from a 11 to 18 buttons OBC.
Starting from a 8 buttons version, apart from all the steps described in this video, you will have to at least also connect to the outside temperature sensor, and maybe add this sensor if it's not available on your car.

@@georgios.marinoudis Hi! Have a look at the other comments, I have answered a similar question.
Dammn so much work broo😰
Indeed, it takes a bit of time, but well worth it.. definitely a nice option on the E36. 👍
Where do I connect the pin 14 ( white-black-yellow) from the obc ? On the wiring diagram shows something like climate control...but were i found that ? For what is this 14 pin ?
@@mrnoname35 how can i find out if i have park ventilation? I also read that i must code the ihka unit if the i have the park ventilation, in order to recognize the settings from obc 🤔
@@rs3784 The park ventilation feature was only available with the OBC 18 buttons from the factory. So if your car didn't came with the full OBC from the factory, you don't have this feature and the relay.
