I bought a e36 back in 2010 - I still haven't changed the water pump or the motor mounts; no reason to do uneccessary jobs or parts. Pretty much replaced everything else in the last 14 years. I have the first one ever made; Super rare 1992 325i 'Euro Sport' edition with manual 5-speed + the full sport package, etc. so bascially an M3 without the extra 40HP. Just hope your heater core never goes out, its one of the worst jobs in this car. Change the differential fluid I recommend, (i'm using Mobil 1 75w-90 hypoid gear oil) that is one thing that people neglect and is a costly repair, if you have planetary (aka spider, satellite) gears, you need the gear additive - Liquid Moly is good. I love that they have a lifetime timing chain with self-adjusting valves (a valve adj. is like $1500 and and e36 never needs one). If you maintain them well they can last forever, but most people don't. The interior is a bit shite, but that can be fixed as well, with some good glue and new plastic clips.
The e36's M50 engine is one of the best, if not the best engine BMW has ever made, in terms of reliability and longevity. They call it a "million mile" engine, as it was tested to go that far, under ideal factory conditions probably of course, but still... I like to have on hand of all the things that can make it not run, Throttle position sensor, cam position sensor, water pump, fan clutch, fuel pump (changed 2011 still going strong). Never forget that comfort relay underneath the steering wheel, for the windows and the fuse for the central locking system will also kill your windows... any problems with the car?
The last feature that I learned was when I removed the seats...neat design for when you get in a collision to make the seats go upright and lowered at the same time and the seatbelt with tighten simultaneously....but closing the sunroof+windows with the key has always been my favorite and most used...
GAL stands for "GeschwindigkeitsAbhängige Lautstärkeregelung" = Speed Adaptive Loudness. Could you do a video on how you connected your voltmeter/oil temperature/oil pressure gauges?

Your windshield wipers will adjust to your speed when in the first intermittent position. So the more gas u give the faster ur wipers will go. Altho if a manual swap done it won't work anymore
Awesome tips man! Another note worthy tip if you've got a Z4 the same window/moonroof tip works for the convertible. Sweet for car shows or sudden rain. 😅
The one side parking light is a bit different in Europe. We have parking lights in the main headlight unit, it’s the one near the kidneys, not in the turn lights. The one side is used when you park in night on street partially on the road, so just half of your car is blocking the road. You put the indicator in the position like you did, there is a resistance and parking lights in front and the back turn on. This was a mandatory thing to do.
I'm still trying to look for that spoiler you have. I tried looking on your website but unfortunately the seller isn't selling the spoiler anymore. I can't seem to find another one. Any suggestions?
How can I tell the difference between the different versions of the 1999 BMW E36 model? M3, 316i, 318i, 328i, td, ti, tds, etc? The ownership papers doesnt have that info and there are no badges on the car that indicates which one.
There are lots of features in the obc. You can see battery voltage with program 9. Oh, if you have big injectors for say a supercharger like I do, there is only so much you can offset the mileage correction. If your flashlight actually works, count your self lucky. I’ve repaired mine about 3 times in the 27 years I’ve owned it. (Yes, I bought mine new, and still have it.)😊
Would the obc still work when there would be a different engine in the car? Because i want someday put a v8 or the v10 to my e36 and i was wondering if it would work
To my knowledge it would only with some serious mods made to speedometer fuel sensor and temperature sensor normally after swap you won't get any speedometer output and revs and temperature will go crazy
In the uk E36, if you make sure your interior courtesy lights are set to auto, so they come on when you open the doors, then with the doors locked, hold one of the door handles for a fee seconds, the interior lights come on with the car still locked, so you can see if you left anything in your car I think the same proceedure de-ices the door locks when the temperature is below a certain level
No it isn’t , I had the same one in my 325i it all depends on what the car was optioned with when new . A base US model probably will only have a 10 button , the base euro models had an analog clock
Funny thing about the parking lights. US cars have them and are wired for them through the headlight switch. Parking lights are always on the headlight switch. Euro cars you can turn the headlight switch left to select a parking light
As I can tell from my 1991 E36 320i the KVBR range is 750 to 1250... I set mine to 1250 but the consumption is still Very low... 4,7litres/100 kilometers which is just not actual... When I set it to 750 it shows 2,8L/100km😂😂. I know that the previous owner of the car has replaced 2 injectors and he used 2 injectors from a 325 (my car is a 320), could that be the reason for the wrong consumption numbers????
could someone tell where people usually buy their e36s I'm not really into cars but I really like the e36 and want it as my first car I would probably like to buy one for 5k - 7k
on my m3 the windows down do not work. my alarm works fine. maybe because its a sedan. also when i do the locking feature only my driver window goes up sun roof and passenger dont do anything.
Again, in the UK, if you leave your windows down, close the doors, lock the drivers door but hold the key in the lock position, it closes the windows and the sunroof from outside the car
That’s the obvious conclusion to jump to but there’s almost no difference between 316i, 318i ,318is and 320i in real world driving conditions because the basic 316i and 318i only have 100 and 114 bhp respectively, those engines struggle to keep up with traffic unless the driver compensates by always revving slightly heavier (plus they’re no fun) 318is is 140 bhp. 320i is 150 bhp with 6 cylinder so will sound better but will cost more on servicing. All models I’ve listed are 29-32 mpg (US roads)

That's the one thing I do hate, all the stupid plastic clips. Instead of making a more efficient engine, they just lighten the load, its such a scam, cars should and could be getting 200+ mpg by now, but then the gas companies couldn't get record profits every year and destroy our environment at the same time, looking at you Chevron.

That key saved me both times
Theres another hidden feature that you forgot to mention, to the left of the steering wheel there's a little knob and if you move it up and down the car will start making a ticking noise and some little decorative orange lights on the outside start to blink.
Also a button on your middle lower console that makes the ticking sound and blinks lights on all four corners when pressed. Also if you put key in steering column and turn it you will hear your starter first then your motor will run. Ha ha he he
On my E46 I set it up to close and open the windows with the remote. I bet your car will do it also. When its hot out its nice to roll the windows down and open the sunroof a little while before you get it. BMW Scanner 1.4 unlocks it all.

I'm so happy to know that e36 can go up to 500000Mls wow
Lol 😂 Taser tho
Mos of these features aren't "hidden" the owner's manual tells you about most of them.
Beware sadly not every E36 version has these features
On my E46 I set it up to close and open the windows with the remote. I bet your car will do it also. When its hot out its nice to roll the windows down and open the sunroof a little while before you get it. BMW Scanner 1.4 unlocks it all.
Mine flashlight is missing
This guy probably has shares in blinker stalks.
Shhhh
By the time u get the tazer unlocked u wud hv been robbed lol
cabrio full life for ever 💝💝💝💪💪💪👍👍👍
Guys would a e36 be a good first car?
No unless you’re a mechanic
God dammit. My world was coming to an end while watching the tazer buildup. Jerk!
😂

Did you hit set/res after typing it in?

😔 a guy ran the stop sign yesterday and totaled mine
That happen to me a year ago i feel your pain
@@marcokalion7293 I bet your insurance company screwed you. I've had my 98 since 2008 and couldn't imagine that happening to my baby.
@@eddies366well you would lose that bet. It actually worked out great . I went and bought 2 more with that insurance money ...
@@marcokalion7293 Just for the car? Any injuries involved? Either way I'm glad they didn't sh*t on you.
@@eddies366 No injuries thank God . But crazy enough the guy that towed my wrecked car from the scene of the accident had a E46 and a wrecking yard saw how beautiful and clean my e36 was. and actually talked up the insurance adjustment guy for me and ended up cutting me a generous check . I'm very Thankful and it crushed me when that happened . but I'm glad it worked out and grabbed another before the prices really got out of hand . Cherish your baby because they are special ! ✌️
Can fit shit in the cup holders
