All this Santander contract tells me is that Alonso is absolutely asking for too much money. Santander has many similarities to Alonso, and with Santander only getting a $18.5 million AAV (without subtracting signing bonus & deferrals), tells me that Alonso, AT MOST, is worth $22 million per season. I'll give him $3.5 million more per season because he plays 1B vs DH only, is homegrown, and has a realistic chance to top Strawberry's Mets HR record. That ship has sailed. We made him several good offers. I prefer he takes a hike and we let the young prospects play. Let's see what they can do. As it is our pitching is suspect, use this year to see what we have of use in the farm.
The Times of India had a breaking news article about Pete going to the Angles. Only problem was that the Times of India got Pete's name wrong...Pete Morgan. Was that a Freudian Slip or is it the first step towards obscurity?
I don’t think it’s an outrageous ask- give Pete 3y for 27 with incentive laden contract where a guaranteed 4th yr kicks in or a mutual option then the 4th yr would be Give him opt out after year 2

Fans won't go for it, but maybe Stearns would. Fans, many of them anyway, are just so locked into the "screw Pete" mindset that they -- whether they admit this to themselves or not -- would rather see Pete get screwed than see the Mets "give in to him" and put the best team on the field this year. It is a bizarre phenomenon, to be sure. But it is cropping up everywhere.
I wouldn't honestly bet that neither of those things happen. If there is an addition, I think it will be a low-cost RH reliever (Stanek?). But anything beyond that would surprise me. I'm fully expecting the Mets to open the season in '25 with Vientos at 1b and Baty at 3b. I guess we'll see. Is what it is.

@@GregoryJanuska he better mope with .245/40HR/100RBI next year if he wants to opt out and hit free agency with success next year
I still would like another pitcher besides a hitter.
No Vientos at first please
Why not? Just curious
@ he cannot play there.. You want him concentrating on hitting not trying to learn a new position. Too much pressure on a 2nd year player
Pete Alonso, has been the BEST bet ever! Let’s go Mets for Pete’s & Mets sake! Stop going around in Circles! The Polar Bear 🐻❄️ is a no brainer! FantasticoMets69 for over 5 Decades & counting! Pete will have best season, Ever ! ! 😅😢🎉🎉
Vientos at first base he has no glove to play first base. Alonso has a tremendous defensive glove at first base and has saved a lot of games with his defensive play at first base.
Iglesias still on the loop?
Pete on our terms or take a hike
Yes. Where else would he go? There isn’t a market plus any more delay and he’s missing or coming late into spring training.
He either takes it or sits out. If he sits out he can kiss the MLB goodbye.
That ship has sailed. We made him several good offers. I prefer he takes a hike and we let the young prospects play. Let's see what they can do. As it is our pitching is suspect, use this year to see what we have of use in the farm.
@@JimmyIsYesmanpro Pete could go to Japan probably
@@campbeja001if your referring to Baty give me a break rather overpay for Pete then have Baty play third he stinks
The Times of India had a breaking news article about Pete going to the Angles. Only problem was that the Times of India got Pete's name wrong...Pete Morgan. Was that a Freudian Slip or is it the first step towards obscurity?
I give it a 4 in 10 chance of him coming back on a 3 yr deal. Ah, the beauty of DH in the NL
We should of gotten him
San Fran🤮 San Francisco 👍 Thank you
Wardy you might be surprised that Pete is not a Met.
18*5=90 mill for Antony Santander?
Why couldn’t we pay him… if he is consistent I would say he is worth more than 90 mil over 5
David stern is going to Destroy the Mets.
LOL! I just heard that the Dodgers are signing Pete Alonso.
Come home Pete
😢😢😢😢 Crying about Alonso?
Man on that contract I wouldve took Santander in a heart beat
Stearns ain't giving up that many years to a slugger.
I don’t think it’s an outrageous ask- give Pete 3y for 27 with incentive laden contract where a guaranteed 4th yr kicks in or a mutual option then the 4th yr would be
Give him opt out after year 2
@@Bu-Dog absolutely not, he dug himself that hole, mutual opt out after one
@ I just do not see any attractive bat options left unless we unload the farm for a trade bat. Although I agree whole heartedly and my opinion of Pete has changed drastically I don’t feel that’s an outrageous pkg to offer when we desperately need that bat in the line up. Otherwise I feel we’re a 3rd place roster at best- unsure we match the luck and magic of last year s currently built
We have to get this deal done with Alonso point simple LETS GO METS
🟠🔵👑🗽
like i have been saying. BLUE JAYS ARE ALL IN. Us mets think we will get everyone. and btw, VlaD is staying in toronto!
Vladdy is not staying
In toronto… he is going to get $500 mil from at least 3 other teams in the states
This week Stearns will sign either Alonso or Profar.
Boras is a bad influence
Ask Soto.
Stay patient. We're gonna get Pete dirt cheap.
How are they gave 2 good offers turned them both down get a clue
@Tony.1974 he's not getting a better offer so he will eventually take what he can get from the Mets. His market just got even worse with Santander signing. Mets offer should drop further. We're gonna get Pete at clearance sale price.
@@TheMacdod I don't know. I'm guessing Pete has some pride. If it comes to taking a "clearance sale price," .. I could legit see Pete take a one-year deal with someone like the Angels just to get a reset after this season. From my perspective ... we heard so much in the recruitment of Soto that the Mets are a "family," .. yet now with Pete -- who has been a great Met -- finally hits free agency, it is "just business." I think there are some intangibles that should be taken into consideration here, but I don't think Stearns cares about that. At this point, I basically view him as a robot.
@dashx1103 in the end it is just business. Be patient. We will get Pete cheap. He f'd up and has no leverage.
@ I'm sorry, but I get off the train at this point. It is NOT just business, or at least it shouldn't be. It is sports, something about which so many are passionate. It should, especially, not just be "business" when the $25 billion dollar owner of the team you cheer for declares at outset that he is committed to winning multiple WS, at least one within 5 years. Sorry, if this becomes "just business" for me, as a current fan, at any point down the road ... I'm just out. Why would I want to cheer for a "business?"
meet in the middle at 3 years 80 mil
😂😂😂😂
ISNT alonso only at the age of 30
Yep for the whole 2025 season
Yep. He's actually younger than Santander, who will turn 31 shortly.
I would still like them to sign a "full time" DH even if they sign Alonso.
That ain’t happening. They are doing dh platoon with winker and marte or whoever is hot at the time.
If they sign Pete are they out on profar
Depends if Marte gets traded but probably
With Santander out I would sign PETE for 4 yrs / $95 w Deferrals
NOTE - This SHOULD NOT affect getting VLAD at ALL.
Winker is only ONE year . We can have PETE and VLAD FROM 2026 -2029 together being Pete DH.
For PETE to go back to 40+ HR’s he CANNOT play every game of the season . MAX 150 games or so
Pete in 2025 for 3-4 years
VLAD in 2026 for 12 yrs
We need PETE / VLAD / SOTO / NIMMO and LINDOR in 2026,2027 and 2028
For that we need PETE NOW and VLAD NEXT YEAR !!
Guys - Pete should be signed and CARLOS MENDOZA also has to protect Pete. Last year he used Iglesias after Pete in the 5th Spot ???? We need to protect SOTO AND PETE
What world are we in. Stop with Vlad. Toronto is giving vlad a monster contract. Read reports out of toronto and not what Wardy says
Baltimore qualifying offer to Santander was for 21 millions in November, and he signs for 18.5 millions with Toronto???
90 million over 21
Long term security
@@dwaynebanks4194 Santander doesn't want to do FA at 33, 35... He could retire if he wants. 5yrs w/ 30+ Hrs & near 100 rbi. (150+ Hrs & 500+ RBIs)
That's what Alonso wants!!! (I'm shaking my head)
@ but he also could get worse is the issue
The Dodgers are going to be one tough cookie to beat again. They have an Embarrassment of Riches!!
Love seeing Met fans think that Santander signing with Jays means mets have a better chance at Alonso. It all comes down to will Boras give in and sign the Mets offer. If Boras/Pete dont want the mets offer and another team offers him more Pete is good as gone. Dont think Santander signing with Jays has much affect on Pete. Jays are apparently still in on Pete as well
I doubt the jays would get Alonso on top of Santander. Plus Springer is in RF. It would be much to platoon Vlad, Santander, and Alonso into the lineup. Besides the jays, there isn’t a market with Alonso.
Where is Pete playing if he signs with Jays?
@@hobb125Pete will play 1B. Vlad jr was a 3rd baseman before covid but he came back overweight and they moved him to 1B. He can easily go back to 3B.
@@DannyD0816Yeah, I’ll believe the Jays commitment to Vlad at 3B when it actually happens again
@@DannyD0816your buggin, if that happens you think that helps or hurts their negotiations with trying to sign him long term? Dude he wouldnt even blink to tell the Jays to go screw themselves and bounce if forced to play third.
Santander at 18.5 mill aav just ruined any chance pete has of signing anywhere but the mets
People don't want to come here. Surely the Mets beat that offer. As for Alonso: the contract talks have gotten too ugly. I don't see him coming here no matter what
Come back polar bear
😢😢😢 crying about Alonso never get olds
@ is olds a car?
Surprised by your extreme optimism of a Alonso return... Anything is possible at this point... I think we learn NOTHING, until we know if Vlad Guerrero resigns with Blue Jays... If he resigns, then Mets might think we need a 1st basemen for the next few years... If Vlad DOES NOT resign, NO WAY Mets sign Alonso!!!! They will wait to see what happens next off season... And fill the year gap in house... Like Vientos to 1st, and Mcneil and Iglesias taking 3B and 2B etc.
Toronto and vlad are close on a contract
@@salvation2979 I haven't heard that... But, we'll see...
NO PLAYER IN BASEBALL CAN PROVIDE PETE ALONSO'S NUMBER OF HOMERUNS AND RBI AND DEFENCE AT CITIFIELD EXCEPT PETE ALONSO.
Right keep dreaming with that nonsense
@roccodelellis7254 VLAD GUERRERO JR IS A VASTLY INFERIOR PLAYER TO PETE ALONSO. PETE ALONSO IS THE GREATEST OFFENSIVE FORCE IN BASEBALL AND THE GREATEST OFFENSIVE FORCE OF HIS GENERATION.
@roccodelellis7254 @roccodelellis7254 IN THE 2024 POSTSEASON PETE ALONSO SCORED MORE RUNS THAN FREEMAN AND JUDGE; MORE HITS THAN JUDGE; MORE HOMERUNS THAN OHTANI, JUDGE, SOTO, AND FREEMAN; MORE RBI THAN SOTO AND FREEMAN; MORE WALKS THAN JUDGE AND FREEMAN; FEWER STRIKOUTS THAN JUDGE AND OHTANI; MORE STOLEN BASES THAN SOTO, OHTANI, AND FREEMAN; HIGHER AVERAGE THAN OHTANI, JUDGE, AND FREEMAN; HIGHER OBP, HIGHER SLUGGING % AND HIGHER OPS THAN JUDGE, OHTANI, AND FREEMAN IN FEWER AT BATS THAN FREEMAN, JUDGE, SOTO, AND OHTANI. PETE ALONSO IS A HISTORICALLY UNPRECEDENTED POSTSEASON PERFORMER WHO HAS CONSISTENTLY DELIVERED IN CLUTCH SITUATIONS AND SAVED THE METS SEASON WITH HIS OFFENCE AND DEFENCE.
Santander was always going to Toronto
Starting to understand stearns strategy just wait to get who nobody else wants……..
Yes, Boras is a pain in the rear🤦♂️🤷♂️
Would rather have Vlad jr next year. Pete passed on 158 million 7 years and lost his gamble on himself. You know that is realty when you lose gamble. Played 6 years with Mets all this supposed Met fan sweet talk like him been there for 12 years. Get over it. We could get a better entering his prime. Pete's prime is gone now.
I think Pete will sign with the Mets 3yr/80 million
The Mets are not budging they’re ready move on from declining player
Get Vlad NOW and PITCHING good for him
Pay him 23 million a year then give him incentive s to make more money. Like a million for 40 or 500,000gor 35 hrs.A million for 100 rbies or 500 000 for 90 or more
A million for mvp
You're obviously not very versed in contracts negotiations.
First rule: Don't set precedents. Other owners will hate you.
Second rule: You do it for one player, you have to do it for all.
Mvp.. lol..
Can't be bonuses/incentives for stats. MVP, Batting title, All-Star are OK. It's like shaving points... the players are working for their own stats, not the team outcome.
For example, Last place team, player hits 50HRs, 130 RBIs, 50 steals, crazy # of Dbls, sac flies/bunts, whatever they could affect/ manipulate.
The Blue Jays had a blow him away to get him 3 years okay he's definitely not worked 5 years and I did not want him on this team a two or three year yes not 5 years
I believe the Blue Jay's are looking at Alonso as a cheaper option than resigning Vladdy...
1year 30m DH
tyler i think vlad is going to stay with the jays and mets are going to resign pete know
Vlad is going to the highest bidder just like Juan Soto.
@@jwvvvvYes, toronto is currently giving vlad what he wants.
Scott Boras is a leech on the game of MLB
I’m not going to lie, I’ll get really annoyed if Stearns’ goal is just to get Alonso to take a cheaper deal (which he’ll come back disgruntled) than signing a player like Santander. I will be LIVID. Pete is not a scary AB enough to protect Soto. Find a way how to get Vladdy Jr between this year and the next or I smell underwhelming success.
Vlad is staying in Toronto
Don’t worry guys sterns knows what he’s doing we got Soto. Remember, we don’t need nobody else with Power. We only need Soto and Soto.
Cohen got Soto not stearns . David would have never paid that much . That’s more then his whole time in Milwaukee lol
lol one day the want Alonso the next they they are completely out now they want him wtf
Thanks for the update, now back to Trumps inauguration.
I don't watch crap.
There is a reason no one has offered Pete!
Of course there is Boris overvalued his prospect, if he would’ve started out with a reasonable aav he would’ve signed by now
Yeah, he's been sh_t talked by every announcer, GM, reporter, etc. Some of it is exaggerated and nothing but projection or reiterated "copy."
Iglesias was 34 and had a great year.
4yrs at 115 with incentives with no opt outs
He’s not getting that he’s not topping this aav
Fwiw : Today the Sporting News predicted the Mets will sign Anthony Rizzo.
@ I agree. Just passing along info.
First
The Jays land Santander? Really? 😡
5/$90M sounds a lot better than what Alonso wants for 3/$90M, heck even better than 3/$70M imo. That’s my point.
Polar bear in 2025 Vladdy in 2026
At this rate, the METS and PHILLIES will have something in common in the 2025 season. They'll look like two AAA teams trying to dethrone the DODGERS. MISSION IMPOSSIBLE!!!
Mets have Marte who can fill in at DH. That is why they didnt sign Santander. Eben though he has alot less power, Marte has other offensive skills.
I definitely more prefer Santander over marte, Santander is a much better offensive hitter alot better than marte, n should've still trade marte for pitching so that opens the DH and RF SPOT for Santander. Extremely huge mistake from mets manager
@mordezylberminc9134 Santander is a bluejay and unavailable
Alonso 3 years/$81 million with opt outs….More than fair deal as each side gets to save face on this deal and Alonso AAV is equal to Freeman
The Mets don't have to save face. They've made Pete 2 very generous offers
which he turned down. He's either too greedy, overvalues himself, or both.
Saving face is on Pete.
Did u see Freeman in WS Alonso nowhere near Freeman’s production
Don’t worry guys we have Sterns the best general manager ever to come to the Mets. Don’t worry guys we got this. We’ll pick up every trash out there. Bring it to the Mets. We’ll make them better. We already lost Santander now we’re going to lose p Alonso thanks to the general manager David Sterns, the best of the best????🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
I agree, in no way does the Santander signing mean that there's a better chance of Pete's return. It is very, very doubtful that Pete returns. Really, the Mets front office doesn't want Pete back, and there's a lot more evidence of that.
