I’m Australian but of British and Scottish heritage so these are just wonderful to watch, and for some very strange reason, they stir something in my soul but I have never been there in my life. I now cannot get enough of these outer Scottish islands as it feels oddly familiar but also not familiar at the same time. Maybe I lived there in another lifetime, who knows. Just wonderful and so different from Australia. Thank you very much for showing these for those of us who are so far away but are fascinated by these stunning islands. What a Journey! And here I am, Orcadian and proud, an 85 minute ferry away, and I have not yet gone to see it. Kettletoft Harbour - don't you just admire the way all these small harbours are so beautifully constructed with dressed stone blocks? Good man, Gary, for lending you his car to let you (and us) see so much more of Sanday than expected. The wreck of the wooden hull gave me goosebumps, just to imagine it's history. Happy you had the comfort of a bunk on the return journey!
So glad you had a good trip, you've done the island proud. Hope you will come back for longer next time. The croft was open, no one lives there just the ghosts of the past!

Just love the Scottish accent... and it's so fun to read all the Norse names in Lerwick, now when I'm "google visit" the city. What a beauty! Just the end name of the city "wick" is "vik" in Norwegian, meaning "bay" in English I think. We have many places that end-named vik here in Norway. And then we know what kind of "bay" the place has. Sanday (Sandøy) Sand Island. Guess it's a sandy island. Would love to visit the island and of course main land of Scottland as well. Keep up the good job Steve👍

A most enjoyable "escapade", Steve. Stunning landscape pictures - to be treasured not least because exactly how often can that scenery be viewed with such beautifully clear, blue skies.
Excellent video. It is amazing how kind and generous the islanders are. Glad to see that all your efforts and persistence paid off and that you saw the wrecks.
A classic Steve Marsh video! Great to see the shipwreck and to hear your classic comment: “there’s so much to do on this island” as you face locked door after locked door. Wonderful stuff.
Wow Steve, now those skies and seas were something out of this world weren't they? I do hope and pray I can retrace your steps on this one (and many others). And thank you for letting is see a rare and fleeting jewel from our past, quite compelling to imagine the story and people behind it, the world owes you one of for that. Also big thanks to Gary, and also to you for not bypassing the airport, we old buzzards who can no longer afford fuel, much less wings to put it in much appreciate the look at every one we can.

Just in time, Steve. The bbc has an article saying the wreck started breaking apart last weekend. Amazing to think it held together in the water for probably centuries only to be torn apart by coming up on land. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
I think an archaeological team have been to assess it and it has been taken, with the help of a local farmer, to drier surroundings for examination. It’s not the end of the story.
Yes, it's now been moved over to the Heritage Centre where Steve visited. Interesting though it actually needs to be kept wet so it doesn't rot. So far it appears to be made from oak trees which themselves are roughly 150 years old

Now that was certainly quite the adventure! Isn't it amazing how people can be so kind...kindness goes a long way in the world for sure! Such a great discovery with the wreckage! Not sure if this is the same one that has been on the news here in Nova Scotia, Canada or not, but it seems there were going to be efforts made in salvaging it? Pretty amazing history there!
My wife and I start every Saturday watching your travels. Look forward to it every week!
Ah Steve you make me want to visit Scotland all over again...observing you observing that shipwreck you looked like a little boy in a candy store. You always manage to impress me with each episode of your journeys. Take care and dry those feet. 👣
Thank you for taking us on a tour of the Orkney-pelago. You are the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Lovely way to start my day, I look forward to your videos! You have a spectacular day to go exploring. Thanks, Gary, for the loan of your car! What a beautiful island. The piece of shipwreck is amazing. I hope they preserve it and learn the history. Great video , thanks!
A huge thank you, to you and Gary. What an amazingly beautiful journey. Appreciate it must have been tiring for you,but again thanks for showing us . Have just read the Islanders of Sanday are trying to get interest in saving this piece of shipping history, hope they are successful, it could be as important as the Mary Rose.
Yeah without Gary's help, I doubt I'd have made it to many of these places :)
nice one, massive shoutout to Gary letting you use his car
Well said!
So glad you had a good trip, you've done the island proud. Hope you will come back for longer next time. The croft was open, no one lives there just the ghosts of the past!
Morning Steve. Love your island trips! I’ve just booked a run to the Isles of Scilly in June - inspired by your video. And look at your follower count! 😲 It only seems 5 minutes since you hit 100K! 🤜🤛
So glad to hear it!
I will have to do this too.
Gary truly is a legend! His generosity raised a good video into a great one. The shipwreck is amazing. I hope they do scoop it up and preserve it. It has more stories to tell.
Thank you for that wonderful out-of-this-world trip to a calming place. And thanks to Gary who is a superstar!
Thank goodness there are still the 'Gary's' of this world around. So nice of him. What a lovely video with a rainbow🌈 & a beautiful random pussycat😺 & your perseverance paying off to find the wreck in the end! Love your Scotland videos 🏔⛰especially the Island 🏝adventures! Sanday looks wonderful. x J x
This way Steve finished the trip with a heavier wallet!
Good to see the HST 125 trains still buzzing around Scotland.
Thanks mate!
I’m so glad you found the shipwreck. I live in Phoenix, Az but had read about it and was very curious to get your eyewitness view. Thanks for your perseverance, thanks to Gary, and thanks to the lady who helped. It takes a village. ♥
Oh fantastic Steve! That shipwreck is very VERY old! Hope you find the history! The island of Sanday is truly lovely! Thanks to Gary for a loan of the car enabling the viewers to see more of Sanday. And thank YOU so much for the wonderful video! Oh! And I nearly had a coughing fit at the look on your face when the dog was barking on the ferry! Hilarious! 😂😄😁🙋🏴🇮🇪🙏
Shout out to Gary from Sanday. You are a legend! Sanday looks like paradise in the winter sunshine.
What a wonderful adventure, Steve! I'm so glad you didn't have to walk, or bike, or ride a mule all that distance! The old boats were super cool, but the icing on the cake was the rainbow, God's promise. Blessings to you and Alicja!
Thank you for the great video Steve. As always when you take us with you on your travels, I was there, could almost smell the sea. Only you can make me forget everything around me watching your videos!
What a beautiful island Sanday is. It shows you that these locations still exist, free from the vigor's of everyday life here in the UK or should I say Scotland! Great video Steve - more please.
As a disabled person its nice to get out and keep dry 😅the wreck was obviously a large vessel and will continue its journey forever hopefully one day giving up its secret. My brother incidentally was born in montrose
I foolishly voted for more snow on your recent poll. This video was absolutely brilliant.
The beaches, the cloud formations, the rainbows, the hospitality of the people, the ferry journeys! All of it makes me want to go!
Sorry for making you wait for more snow :D
No apology necessary. I have to be protected from myself sometimes. 😂
Just loving the videos
Not long discovered your channel Steve and absolutely love your style it's fast becoming my go to channel, that shipwreck was amazing the story that could tell, the only criticism is, when are you coming down to Devon for an adventure👍
This was special. Thank you. Look after your feet! Despite the wee bit of rain, the weather was so kind to you. And such lovely folk. Another good one ❤
You are spot on about the feet!
WOW, Steve, that was fantastic. You are such a trooper, walking through the water and over the stones to show us a very cool wreck. I loved this. So well done as always. Hope you don't catch a cold from the wet feet. Well done. And a big thanks to Gary.
I actually did!!!! :(
Been around 40 years ago on Orkney Island twice and the positive thoughts and memories about that place have never been lost in my brain. Beautiful pictures - thank you!
It sure is a special group of islands!
Good morning Steve…a beautiful journey. Finding and exploring history is awesome..so happy you found what you were looking for. The cat was very healthy and precious 😊. Thank you Gary and that was very nice. Thank you Steve 🤗❤️…oh I forgot the rainbow was beautiful ❤
Lovely Steve😊 , I would love to get up to the Orkneys again just so much history and things to see I expect the shipwreck will give up its secrets in time with good investigation and become another piece in the rich tapestry of Orkney history .and I hope your video stimulates more interest in it.👍.
Hopefully, it was a great story to document
Just in time, Steve. The bbc has an article saying the wreck started breaking apart last weekend. Amazing to think it held together in the water for probably centuries only to be torn apart by coming up on land. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
I think an archaeological team have been to assess it and it has been taken, with the help of a local farmer, to drier surroundings for examination. It’s not the end of the story.
Yes, it's now been moved over to the Heritage Centre where Steve visited.
Interesting though it actually needs to be kept wet so it doesn't rot.
So far it appears to be made from oak trees which themselves are roughly 150 years old
A epic trip Steve. The cat looked adorable and I do hope they preserve the old shipwreck. Thanks Steve
I invited the cat to come with me, but he had stuff to do
@@steve-marsh 🤣
SALUDOS y Muchas gracias desde San Diego California, USA…🤩
Advantage of going out of season is the travel is nice and quiet, but down side is things are closed once you get there!
I enjoyed every minute of this video, Steve. My son, Ward owns a tiny piece of land on Sandy. Enough to call him, Laird. I am sending this to him as soon I am done writing this. I love the time spent watching the waves and hearing the gulls. Thank you Gary for the use of your car, thank you Steve for this amazing video. Merry Ann from Minnesota!
Thanks for sharing with the Laird of Sanday!
Another superb video, and a nice return from eastern Europe - thank you Steve.
I do love all your vids Steve of course 😂 but I really like the Scottish vids the wild winter weather vids, scenery, the islands & ferry trips!! I am Irish but my gran was Scottish so have a real sentimental connection with Scotland
Thanks so much!
Glad you got a bunk on the way home!
Thanks for a fantastic tour. Fabulous beach, even better for the shipwrecks, and just beautiful all round. I loved the rainbow in Kettletoft harbour, that lovely cat in Kirkwall, and yes, lots of it. Thanks to Gary, too.
Steve! I have wanted to see Sanday for SO long! Thank you for going and showing me it’s as amazing as I thought it would be.
The ship wrecks were fantastic, Thank you Gary for making it possible.
Bloody brilliant!
Honestly this island is incredible, and the friendly people there make all the difference
Steve you truly are the best travel you tuber around. I don't look forward to any other videos on you tube as much as yours. Keep up the great work but also look after yourself as well, you looked shattered at times during this adventure.
Gary - what a guy lending your car to Steve, such a kind gesture 👍🙂
I'm only in Fife, I really should be getting up north to explore these awesome places. And as for Gary, what a legend!
The more I watch your videos Steve, the more I want to book a trip to Scotland to spend time in the beautiful north. Thanks also to legend Gary!
Well done Gary. Your generosity made this video more enjoyable for us all….and i’m in Texas.
Oh Steve I REALLY enjoyed this one, back on home turf 😉 and yes I could have watched the whole journey in reverse back! Those WW2 old abandoned pill boxes give me the proper creeps too I can't go in them. I'll never get bored with your island trips, please do more! That poor wee dog barking on your jourmey back 😵💫 but ideal with the cabin, I'll be doing that when I eventually get there. This is added to my faves, love the 1600s ship wreck 😍 What a star of Gary! Thank you x
In my footsteps again !!!! 30 years ago I took my family to Sanday on bicycles, daughter in trailer. Wonderful place. All those tourist facilities werent there then but tgose beaches were. Bl…y cold though, even in summer.
Aye the island itself won't have changed much at all!
So nice to see a video from beautiful Scotland again. More, please! (Thanks to Gary for his help with this one.)
