Craig, these were sold to home owners, ranchers and professional loggers. An all around great saw for its time. Was intended for home and ranch, but was so tough and reliable, was used on landings, thinning and small falling. One of those saws that made Stihl's name famous.
I just got my hands on an 031AV for free. It's been sitting in a barn for several years so it needs a little tlc. It's really dirty, has really old gas still in it, and the chain is rusted tight to the bar. The good news is that the engine turns over and has good pop. I'm looking forward to putting this old beast back into service. It will compliment my McCulloch Pro Mac 700 nicely for cutting firewood.
I'm actually looking for either one that's running or one that's dead in the water for parts for my grandfather. He's looking to give his a tune up and replace some parts with originals. Would you be willing to sell?
I got one of these for free from my father. It's identical to the one featured in the video except it does not have a chain brake installed. It runs great and I have put it to use several times. I am curious as to where what "class" this saw falls into. The Stihl web site has three categories of saws, home owner, farm & ranch and lastly professional. What class of saw would this one be????
@@ttommy1946 take the top off, half a dozen screws and the handle bar. Disconnect throttle linkage, and remove carby, this Will allow room to replace the hose.

Thanks for the info, been looking to pick up a second Stihl saw and just wanted to know where something like this would be in the Stihl lineup.
Does anyone know if they make an aftermarket carburetor for the still 031?

What is the easiest way to replace the gas line on the stihl 031av? I have not figured out what I have to remove to get to it.
