I bought the Action 5 based on how good the Pocket 3 is at these day to night to day transitions. (I wanted a weather resistant option for our Canadian winters).. Boy was I disappointed. The Action 5 is great in the day but as soon as it gets dark the picture turns to mush. And ya, it can't handle the transition back to daylight. I was pissed... I just bit the bullet and bought the Gopro 13 Black. What a difference. The footage matches with the Pocket 3 better than the Action 5. And no goofiness at dawn. Thanks for this video.
Thanks for the informative video! Everyone keeps talking about how awesome the DJI Action 5 Pro is but GP13 did a great job with both the timelapses while DJI struggled to manage the exposure.
Excellent comparison - really appreciate the effort you put into your videos. The GoPro looks a lot better. Any chance you could do the same type of comparison between the AcePro 2 and the Pocket 3?
Thank you. Yes, I am willing to do additional comparisons with cameras with this specific use case. I don’t currently own the Ace Pro 2 but plan to soon.
Thanks for this video! Do you take the battery out when using the power bank? I tried this last night, but came back in the morning and the camera must have shut off. Doing some tests today with and without the battery, also using the Anker power bank and the trickle charge (press twice to get the green light). Without the battery and trickle charge has worked the best so far..,
Thanks! I sometimes have the battery in and sometimes have the battery removed. Battery removed tends to provide the most consistent results and fewer problems.
I’ve been considering getting the Insta360 Ace Pro for this exact situation but struggling to find good comparisons. I know there are some issues with the Ace Pro 2 but have you tried this with the Ace Pro 1? The Ace Pro in your Aurora Video looks like it retained a lot more detail in the darker areas.
Ok, I followed your instructions but when I got to setting the interval, the least amount of time I could set was 60secs. It went from auto to 60secs,2 mins, 5 mins and so on. Am I missing a setting somewhere?
If I’m being critical, I think the only thing I’d like to see differently with the GoPro time lapse is a slightly cooler white balance at sunset. However, I felt the Action 5 was too cool at sunset. So maybe that is why the GoPro one looks so warm when they are side by side.
handsdown the gp13 looks so immersive & beautiful & for some reason, watching tht settings menu on dji osmo 5pro give me a headache thts too cartoonish to fiddle around with
I only recommend it for the day to night or night to day scenario. For day time time lapses, sunset time lapses, and night lapses I recommend photo/RAW for optimal results. Holy grail is the one exception to that recommendation of mine 😃
Yeah I’m doing these again when I have a clear, starry sky all night. In a way the clouds are easier for the cameras vs the stars. I’ll publish a part two just with the comparisons as an add-on to this video.
You do the best videos. You are my go to for informative TH-cam GoPro tutorials. You keep things organized and easy to follow.
Thank you. I really appreciate it.

Thanks for sharing your feedback and experience with these cameras as well. Hopefully DJI can continue to improve this feature in future cameras.

You’re welcome. Yes, I like the real life tests to see how well cameras actually do with specific scenarios.

I tried time lapse using my gopro 11 ..I'm satisfied!
Can I do the same setting with DJI Action 4 for Holi Grail Timelapse ?
Yes you can. The results may not be quite as good as the Action 5 but should be similar.
hero 13 duration setting in off the same as no limit..It does not have that same setting as in your video?

Is there a possibility to see a comparison with the Ace pro II on the same topic
Certainly. I don’t currently own the Ace Pro 2 but as soon as I do I’ll do that.
@GreatDayForAHike this will be great, thank you, there are more features, on the Ace pro II, that can help you to achieve a great final result.
@robpastore definitely. I own the Ace Pro 1 and like it.

Gopro looks great in those cases

Hi, can you give me a advice or tips actually i bought osmo 5 pro and whenever i see output its bad even i shot on 4k resolution so idk why !

Thank you for sharing your perspective.
interesting in that you now recommend video instead of photo/raw. :)

Try again when the weather cooperates.

Did the flat earthers just get debunked with the stars rotating circular?
All it takes is a good action camera and a little time to capture the star movements 😃
