Followed your settings. Then tried with everything Auto. The DJI does a great job in auto. I could see a difference between your settings and auto, but let the dji do the work and you get a better outcome.🎉
thanks a lot for the info!great video!can i plan a sunrise so i dont need to weak up and the dji action 4 begins by it self?also how i will have motion blur if i use 30 shutter?do you think is better to use the 180 rule?thanks
Great Video! Can you answer me this please. I am looking to do timelapses in my vehicle, around 2 - 4 hour journeys, on the way back it will be night. What settings do you suggest for this, as i wont be able to safely change ND filters, is there an auto setting you would suggest? Thanks.
Thanks so much for presenting this video. I am just now learning how to do more advance video on my Action 4. I am shooting my first sunrise video over the marsh and see I do need the filters. Is it possible for you to do a video on just shooting a sunrise? Again, thanks so much!
if i wanna do timelapses during day time till sunset. can i do it with a static setting on shutter speed and ISO? without changing them and the ND filter as well? thank u
I understand this is an order video but I have learned a lot from your channel. Any thoughts, hint or advice on recording the upcoming solar eclipse on April 8 2024. I have the action 4 and insta 360 X3. Thanks
@@GreatDayForAHike perfect I’m guessing using ND filters? I don’t have any and need to get some. What ND number do you recommend I see the sets have different ranges
@tomandchristyadventures1344 ND filters are not necessary but they can enhance the look of the footage due to enabling a lower shutter speed while still properly exposing the footage. I use this set from Freewell and like it: amzn.to/4cEDIxo However, the lower-cost set of 4 from Freewell should also be sufficient for my recommendations.
Great video. The video the Action 4 creates for a time lapse is 8-bit H.265 so indeed opting for the video + raw is a very good idea when one wants to go creative with the footage. Also I wish to add the obvious that you and I know, but maybe not all your viewers. Using an external powerbank is okay but in a (very) humide environment the Osmo 4 is at risk and so is the powerbank.
Hi, I’m considering upgrading from my Hero 9. I do shoot mostly in vertical position for posting on Instagram. My question is can you take time-lapses in vertical positions with the action 4? Thanks
Hi, with the 20,000 mAH powerbank, how long does it last? I'm trying to shoot a timelapse for my gundam build and I can go as long as 8 hours. Also, what sd size would you recommend?
I have the same power bank. My settings are as follows. Recording set to infinity. And usually set to 3s intervals. I have a 256gb sd card. My camera will record for a while then stop Recording. I don't know what settings I am missing?
When I first bought the Action 4 I had this problem as well. It happened a few times and one of the times I caught it when it flashed the error message. The error was due to my microSD card not having high enough read and write speeds for this due to me doing both a video and photo time lapse at the same time. I had a SanDisk Extreme card but had to buy a SanDisk Extreme Pro card for the card to keep up. After that it has worked okay with no issues.
I have a Samsung 512gb pro plus micro SD card. It tests just as good if not better than the SanDisk extreme pro. I don't know why it still turns off. 😕
Sorry if this is dumb question, but does the Action 4 process the files in-camera or do you need to off-load the files to a laptop or desktop and process the files in another app?
Hi can you answer a question for me, at the moment I have an osmo action camera I guess no 1 I think but I tried to take regular photos of birds and animals at least up to 200 meters but could not see any of the animals in the photo. Is this camera not good for taking photos of things in the distance. Will the DJI action 3 do any better, or should I just use another camera as I am not an action junky. I feel that the pictures must always be withing close range is this right. I do take some off our boat for whales and dolphins close up. Warren
Nope. The moon icon, when activated, makes the display turn off after the time you chose in the general settings. If not activated, the display will stay on the whole time, which will drain the battery pretty bad. @@GreatDayForAHike
The 1/30 shutter speed will not give you the motion blur you mention. Normally you will go for the 180 degree shutter rule. That means that with a Timelapse with a frame captured every 2 seconds, you will need a 1 second exposure for each frame to introduce that pleasing motion blur.
Wow, that’s great to hear and is surprising. There is definitely some battery optimization going on there. I believe the screen will also turn off while it’s going which helps a lot.
Bought and returned the DJI Action 4 the next day. Requires "Activation" from DJI. Why would a camera require activation? I understand a cellphone or drone but a camera? Called DJI and was told it was to keep track of active v. inactive phones! Huh? I asked if they can deactivate a lost phone to which the said yes. So this means users are being followed by DJI.
DJI's big letdown:Only the Hero 11 AND 12 are capable of high res photo time lapse. Just like the previous Action 3, the Action 4 is stuck at 4K, which by the way is the equivalent of 8 MP. The Hero 11 & 12 are capable of 27 MP. GoPros are great as dashcams (edited: I previously said webcams) because they do well at capturing license plates.
Yes, I do like the much higher resolution on the Hero 11 and 12 for time lapses. It’s useful in many situations like the one you mention and others as well.
Followed your settings. Then tried with everything Auto. The DJI does a great job in auto. I could see a difference between your settings and auto, but let the dji do the work and you get a better outcome.🎉

You’re welcome.

Thank you! I really appreciate it!
Just picked up the 4 and are really enjoying your tutorials. Thanks. New subscriber.
Excellent saved these to my Osmo 4 quick switch
Great and thank you!
super helpful, concise and no waffle - excellent and has given me great sunset results
Thank you and this is great to hear.
What ND filter do you recommend for sunrise? TIA

Is it possible to do a day to night timelapse with a smooth transition like on older GoPro ?

Thanks for your expectations 🙏 one thing, I set time lapse mode and it takes first 2 shots but after it goes to stop. Do you know why?
Very good, you talked and showed. One of the best videos, when I am not part of English picture example good. 10 +
Thank you. I really appreciate your feedback.
Excellent - clear, concise and told me everything I needed to know! A++++ Subscribed! :)
Excellent tutorial! Followed along with my Action 3, all the setting from your Action 4 applied perfectly to the Action 3. Cannot wait to try it out.
Thanks!

Yes, in fact I am releasing a video later this week that will outline the key settings that I recommend for the best eclipse capture.

Yes you can with the osmo action case you can mount the camera vertical. Works great!
I second that. Yes, you sure can.
what is that button top left for at 2:14?
Is there anyway to overlay the time in the corner?
I'm looking for a camera to record me doing a handyman and electrical job while on a job site. Would you recommend Action 4 for this?
1606. Is it the same setting for go pro 11? Thank you very much for your videos. More power to you.

@redneckinvegas Are you on the latest firmware version? Also, your card still has plenty of space on it and isn’t getting full?
Awesome , great video ... Thanks 🙌🏻

Can you run the Action 4 on external power to shoot long time lapses (over an entire day)?
Yes, you sure can. I use this one from Anker: amzn.to/40vBACi
Sorry if this is dumb question, but does the Action 4 process the files in-camera or do you need to off-load the files to a laptop or desktop and process the files in another app?
Can this thing handle nighttime lightning?
Overall, I find this to not be as good with night lapses as the GoPro or Ace Pro. It can be used but I find the results to not be great.

Yes, in the DNG format.

I was surprised I capture whole night from 12am to 7am in a single battery😮 I think osomo optimize the camera for timelapse

Do you stay away from the 100-400 iOS setting? I want to do a sunrise shot while i sleep and i won't be able to know exactly how bright it'll be!
