Electric Cooling Fans on a 99-04 Silverado ft TURBO 8.1 BUILD ALMOST DONE

  • Thanks to FarmerJohnson Off-Road for sending in an electric fan harness, and check out one of his videos on how to remove an electric fan harness at the junk yard. / 93xjheep
    In this weeks upload, we take care of one of the last things that are stopping the turbo 8.1 Silverado from driving and tuning, and thats the electric cooling fans operating. I already had installed the 2005+ Silverado dual electric cooling fan assembly, but had never wired it up so today thats what we take care of. I'm using a factory fan harness assembly which fits nicely into the stock fuse block and looks, well, factory. The nice thing is it operated just like factory as well, with the low stage coming on at 195* and the second dual stage coming in at 208*. When both fans are running at high, the truck should never over heat.

    good call on the OEM cooling harness. I had a buddies 03 that had an electric fan swap with aftermarket kit die on him out on the trails. Luckily i have a pretty good knowledge of the wiring, and i pulled out the relays and bridged power to get us back home. not bad for just having a pocket knife and some duct tape.

      @@LawrenceTolman If you know, would you mind sharing how this would pin into the ECM if AC is still equipped? Also if this were done with AC would the ECM still need to be programmed in order to provide the negative/ground to the fans at the desired temps? This install is great BTW. Texas heat and my GMT800 do not get along when I am sitting for too long and there’s no air circulation through the radiator. I would love to do this conversion!

    Did the same fan upgrade to my 01 Tahoe. Hard to find the parts but way better then aftermarket in my opinion. Sent out my ECU to a tunner to unlock the fan feature, so for I have had this upgrade for several months and no problems at all. In my case I can only use one of the leads to the computer and the other to a relay to change the positive polarity to a negative and run to a a/c wire.

I'm assuming that they skipped out on the tuning because the fans only come on with engine temp, and not with the AC. there are a few write ups online, but it involves triggering the second fan from the AC compressor clutch instead of the ECM, but that uses a positive signal instead of negative, so you use a relay to make the change and trigger the fan.

    Hey, Great video!!, Thanks, I have an 02 silverado 4.8, I fixing to put stock daul fans from the 06 truck. The auto parts store recommend a 197 degree thermostat. But I think that is too high. So I put a 187 thermostat a good while back. Thinking about putting a 180 for the swap. Originally when it had a 197 I could feel the heat when I raise the hood. So if I go with a 180 thermostat what should I set my fans at for low and high? PS, I using a Dakota digital 2800bt module and a BP Automotive Harness instead of the ECM because they want over $200 dollars to flash it.

    • @LawrenceTolman

    What is the one additional step I need to do to keep my A/C on my 2002 Silverado? Installed radiator, fans, and 99-02 Nelson Harness but now my A/C is not working. Had my tuner get the fans going properly but still no A/C, the compressor will not kick on. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Trying to find the part number for the under hood fuse box cover with the extra opening for the fan relays? It would much appreciated.

    What's the additional step to wire it with the AC

    You said remove any wires already pinned to #42 and 33. What would be there already and will that disable something else?

    What is the actual name of the pin connectors for the computer ? I have a factory harness but of course the wires from the harness connector to the computer are missing. So I have to make my own. Thanks.

    So I got a 99 I did the wiring into the pins. But it isn’t working correctly what does the 99 need differently?

    What is the extra step for a/c trucks? Does it require a extra relay?
    And great truck build.

      @LawrenceTolman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah, basically a relay to convert the positive signal from the ac clutch to trigger the fans or something like that

    Hey Lawrence hope all is well. I'm here in New Jersey and have just did the efan conversion now I think I am getting a reverse polarity but before I switch the wires I wanted to ask,; do the fans blow into the radiator or the engine compartment? which is correct

    • @LawrenceTolman
      @LawrenceTolman  ปีที่แล้ว

      They suck air through the radiator and push it into the engine bay, the air moves the same direction it would when you drive

    Quick question what extra steps do you need to follow for the ac to be fully functional with an 02 yukon

    • @LawrenceTolman
      @LawrenceTolman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Theres an "AC retrofit kit" available that changes out the pressure switch with a sensor, and you wire that into the ECM so it knows what the high side pressure is, and kicks on the fan accordingly. If you find my newer electric fan video, I detail this during the install.

    Is there gonna be some easy way to reconnect the AC pump? I can't go without AC. I have the elec fans in my 06 all ready. Looking at a 8.1 to drop in with turbo. Wanna see yours first. Lol.

      its gonna be a challenge, but we'll see. i think if I redesigned the whole system to start with a scratch built manifold instead of using a stock manifold on the dr side, i might be able to do it

    love all your videos!! just did this swap on my 04 sierra, but now when i hit the a/c switch the fans dont come on. any idea what may be causing that?

      figured it out, enable temp and pressure for fan1 and fan2 were still maxed.
