Ran 16 miles in them this morning. Enjoyed the ride and worked well for my over pronation. Plan on using them for my first marathon at the end of august.
I just picked up a pair for just under $100. I have some strained tendons in my left foot and wanted some stability to take strain off them. It’s very stable without being too controlling and it’s comfortable. These and my Brooks Adrenaline GTS are my go to’s as my feet are healing up. I think they help reduce further injury by helping me stay planted.
Interesting thoughts. I'm waiting for my Nimbuses (Nimbi?) to be delivered. I'm lighter than you (~ 61 kg) but I really liked the rocker and the firm-ish foam when I tried them in the store. I haven't tried the Superblast (I have Novablast) but I'm not sold on the geometry being a good fit for me and I'm just a hobbyist so times don't really matter. I actually like the look of the outsole on the Kayano as well as the traditional lacing system. Good to have you back.
The great thing about the current Asics line up is they all seem to have a purpose, whereas some other brands seem to be pumping out any old shoe for the sake of it. I have some raincoats with 'dry clean only' on the label if you're interested. It may be sunny now, but there's always next week 🌦
I was going to get the Gel-Kayano 30, but after I saw the GT 2000 12 that I gave it to my father .... also, I already got two huge shoes : Gel-Nimbus 25 and Mizuno Wave Sky 7. For now ,I don't need huge stack cushioning shoes. Unfortunately, I could not find any specifications for the new GT 2000. All I know is that by holding it, it seems as lightweight as a Gel-Cumulus 25 but with a breathable tongue like the one from the Magic Speed 3 . Can't wait to finally find some reviews about the GT 2000 12 ! Great video, Ed !
@@craiggraham8263 I haven't tried the Gel-Kayano 30 , but for my overpronation the Sky 7 is a neutral shoes as the Gel-Nimbus 25 and birth were very stable and even a bit more middlesole stack. I was impressed, but the Sky 7 was faster and even more stable than the Nimbus and inky lost to maximum luxurious and extreme softness of the Nimbus 25. The GT 2000 was very comfortable ( a bit snug) , nice cushioning and awesome to run faster than all the three big bulky shoes mentioned above. My point was that there are very great neutral shoes options that can work for us. Not every time that we need to use a stability shoes to run faster or better ... but it can help to aliviate some stress from overpronation too much 2 with every step. Can let our ankles and shins to get some time to recover faster. Once our twice a week is all I need ( running in a stability shoes) to recover my legs from running 5-6 times a week.
I used to have these back in the day. I remember once while wearing these getting cited by the police for running past a truck weigh station and not stopping. R.I.P Sinead O'Connor. A true rebel if there ever was one!
The Kayano has long been the flagship stability trainer in the Asics lineup. It's a good shoe to work into your stability rotation and has provided me with an excellent Adrenaline/Glycerin GTS/Kayano rotation!
Thanks for another useful review Edd, I went with the Superblast after your recent review and this reinforces that decision, I see you are wearing the Superblast around the house but I don't want to wear mine out prematurely, do you do reviews on any recovery slides/sandals?
EddBud, hoping you reply to older video questions mate, i need to know if you would go for this or the ForeverRUN Nitro if im looking at a stability shoe. Im 85kg, average pace 4:40 per km, anywhere from 5 - 25km distance. Appreciate your banter, humor and unique videos mate, Cheers from NZ
The Puma is a little more nimble and lighter. But more return from it. Depending on your weight and build I would go lighter build - Puma. Heavier build Asics.
I used to run in Kayanos all the time back in the day. They were never cheap, but the price now is just crazy. The thick end of 200 earth credits for a daily trainer, is just madness in this economic climate. I can buy a pair of my Adistar long run shoes and a pair of Guide 16s for everyday running from an on line retailer for around the £150.
I am coming back of a sciatic pain and some ankle sprain. Trying to start running slowly. So I bought this pair at 77 US earth credit at a local site. Everything from shoe box, detail of the shoe including logo, font, special patterns on upper, midsole, outsole , stitching, insole, weight looks authentic except the price. I was so worried that I didn't wear them for week to look for any sign to be fake. Is it a good purchase considering my injuries?
ive considered getting these and taking 2mm off the AHAR+ heel rubber pods as lets be honest, even with 2mm shaved off that rubber will still outlast the forefoot "LightAHAR"
This year's eco based midsole is providing less energy return and not much pop feel. I have used nimbus 29,30 and kayano 29 for jogs and run sessions, these are definitely quality and durable shoes but for slow to moderate paces. I guess we all prefer different things, my understanding I would rather enjoy my runs in Superblast, Metaspeed sky+ , edge + and magic speed 3, if we are strictly speaking ASICS. Even though I don't own this model just yet but based on 29, I came to the same shoe rating as your's at the end. Cheers. for testing.
Hi eddbud 👊 , nova 3 , cumulus 25 , glideride 3 all brilliant shoes , I 100% don't like the nimbus 25 or the kayano 29 at all , I'm hoping that asics doesn't change the ff blast + in the new novablast 4 as it's far from bouncie in the cumulus and nimbus 25s old stuffs better
Can these sneakers be used by runners who do not have problems with foot pronation? Can it be used by runners who have supinated feet, or is the shoe only intended for runners who have pronated feet? Can you give a more detailed answer? Thank you.
I remember getting to touch the gel itself when the upper was taken of the midsole at the asics store. I noticed that the gel was honey-combed shape and was very little over there? does that really make a difference? (I Got the novablast 3 and It was simply the best shoe I have ever wore and it was exactly what might body wanted)
Hello Edd, I don't know how many miles you put on those shoes yet, and I could be wrong, but by looking at the outsole, it looks like it has some wear on that outer yellow rubber already.
Do stability shoes help knee issues? I never wore stability shoes but I did injure myself lifting weights and car accident. It's been difficult to run without any pain.
Stability shoes vary a bit. If you can try these on and run a bit indoors, you might be able to feel if they help stabilize your knee. £180 seems a lot of poppy for that shoe Edd, I bought three pairs of Asics GT Xpress 2, for the same price and I find they are well cushioned and very well made.I wonder how Asics justify charging so much more for these ? 🤔
I wear these and the GT 2000 12 TR but i wear them asy everyday shoes. Jeans cargos etc. so much comfort. Don't like the lifestyle shoes aka classics from back in the day. Uncomfortable for my 35 year old feet. These however are a god send.
Since I had been wearing kayano 30, my knee has started hurting bad. This is not a good shoe for overpronaters like myself. Kayano 28 and 29 are better for me.
…and, SuperBlast is a unisex shoe which doesn’t fit great on some of us females. I was disappointed testing it because it doesn’t lock down well enough for me (in fact, poorly compared to the NovaBlast3) with my medium width feet that if anything are on the narrower side of medium. Lockdown needs to be great on something that high stack and bulky.
You bet they will sell loads, theres one guy i know who runs about 1:28 half marathons, will never switch to anything other than the Kayano. Heaven knows how he does it! @@randenlewis152
Agree that all reviews aren’t about any one of us. The vast majority of runners are “hobby joggers”, which includes easygoing marathoners who don’t have a speedy bone in their body but still need good shoes suitable for them. I’m personally a very competitive age grouper so I’m not speaking about myself. But let’s keep the attitude inclusive guys. There are plenty enough reviews of fast race shoes as they get released and going forward with the comparisons.

Would be good to see a comparison with the puma forever run..!
Will get some comparisons together on this one
Over did my training, have 5 weeks until my race, suffering tib post, looking at these.
They are a dense cushion. Very tall and consistent across the footbed
I don't know the 30 model. But a previous Kayano has the record durability for me. And I have tried many shoes!
For many people this is the chief requirement of their shoe
Which better super blast or gel kayano 30, what are different the best choice?
My personal choice is Superblast. 70g lighter per shoe and more energy return
The bottom of the shoes profile and rubber patterns is giving me big Hoka vibes
