Retired tower & TRACON controller here… that “controller” is an embarrassment. Why the change to the left? Why have the help go to the east side of the airport just to have him cross two actives back to the west? Helicopters are the easiest a/c to work… they can stop! I could go on, but I have a cold & I’m tired…
Yeah exactly. He changes him to the other runway, then it doesn't work and he sends him around as he's about to touch down. Makes zero sense, the pilot was 100% situationally aware, more so than the controller. Then the controller ends up making the pilot land directly behind a heavy.
@@alk672you have no idea what was going on with 16R. You understand that these videos edit out a lot of stuff right? Maybe the 16R had people taking off. Or maybe there was a runway inspection.
And to the OP, I don’t think you can go after the controller without knowing the details. At a lot of airports, helicopters have specific procedures. This helicopter pilot was already setting himself up to go that route to the airport, so it seems to me, that’s how things are done at that airport.

pilot was not a noob at all. he is right the 360 made no sense, he then requested a long loop and was denied.. uhm... you keep telling him wake turbulence and then deny him the spacing to avoid it. ATC on the stupid pill today
The 360 made sense, so he didn’t want him too far on downwind. He requested a long landing, not a long loop.
He absolutely didn’t deny him the spacing. He said to follow that traffic at his own discretion. That doesn’t sound like he isn’t giving him enough space.
This was the controller's fault. I would be irritated too, I don't think the pilot was ever disrespectful, just a bit annoyed

I don’t see this as the controller fault either. Controller wasn’t talking to the jet yet, plus if an aircraft lands long, it’s hard to tell when he will touch down.
The pilot wasn't disrespectful, but he was still unprofessional. The time for critiques of the controller's skills is on the phone after the flight. Even if the pilot is 100% correct, the frequency isn't the place for the conversation.
So why the Tower controller changed runway to 16 left?
Probably for other traffic that wasn't shown
for the incoming traffic because all of them crossed runway 16R i think, but regardless, the controller asked the Cessna pilot if he wanted to change to 16L and he willingly accepted

It could be that FOD was found on the runway and had to be closed temporarily.
so he specifically puts FL RIGHT BEHIND the heavy 767, yet when FL notifies him it'll thus HAVE to be a long landing due to wake turbulence, ATC DENIES HIM!?!??!?! lmao wow. what HORRENDOUS atc ineptitude here, he clearly doesn't understand the physics behind the purpose of doing the long landing for wake purposes smfhhhhh

Landing a bit long for wake turbulence is fine. This guy wanted a long landing, meaning landing towards the end. That is a huge difference.

I think the controller was being kind of a jerk here.
Six of one, half a dozen of the other. Sometimes ATC do strange things, but it’s normally for your own safety. It’s easier to just comply and ask questions later.

Based on what was seen on this video, the controller was MAYBE too cautious about spacing and wake turbulence. Whats the worst thing that could happen? A whiny pilot bitching about it.
Scenario 2: Snowlfakes plane gets rolled or transport category jet goes around.

This was my thought as well but I still don't think it would have been a factor.
My issue was with the pilot you don’t need 8 miles to land a Cessna. He didn’t get a long landing he just wasn’t set up properly.

Because you can see 16L is longer so he wasn’t expecting to be over the runway that high and he couldn’t get down

@@jostmathe we don’t really know exactly what he was dealing with at the time though. We don’t know his altitude, the winds, etc. there’s a lot more that goes into it.

It's really annoying when ATC makes smaller aircraft go out of their way to defer to larger aircraft. I get it, they're more expensive and more difficult to maneuver, but this was silly. Tell him to expedite, tell him to land long, or short. "Heavy" aircraft don't have priority.
They pay the lion share of the bills, and have hundreds of people actually going somewhere. Not some 1%er out playing around.
He should’ve landed where everybody else lands, beginning of the runway. Then he wouldn’t have had to go around. The moment he wanted to land long, he gave up his right to land first.

Controller was fine here. Pilot didn’t do much wrong either, except complain a lot. He did a long landing to safe time. Don’t work out for him. Next time, land normal, that way ATC won’t need to guess how much more time you are going to take.

If the controller had an aristocratic English accent, would you still be faulting him? Or would you see the pilot as a dumbass who should save his complaints about being given a long landing until his plane and the other planes around him are on the ground, like a GOOD pilot would do?

Exactly. This is why I think long landings are silly. The moment you do that, the controller has to “guess” when you will touch down and clear the runway. Just land where you are supposed to and get off the runway ASAP.
Why the need for the long landing, I am not a pilot just interested in these things.
@@kingslaphappy1533 to cut down on their taxi time. It’s a small airplane that only needs 1000 feet or less to land, but the runway is 9000 feet long. Their parking is close to the end of the runway, so they like to land like 7000 feet down the runway, so that they can pull off the runway at the end and be at their parking spot.
If they land normally, exit the runway at the 3000 feet point, now they have to taxi 2 or 3 minutes.
