When Mother Gothal says “I love you most, she kisses Rapunzle’s hair, the source of her immortality. It is so subtle that I didn’t notice until someone pointed it out.
Oh I always questioned if Gothel loved HER or the HAIR and that scene is what did it. Cause she kept calling Rapunzel "MY Flower." so that was the tell.
Yeah, she only loved what Rapunzel could do to benefit her (keeping her young with her hair). She did not loved Rapunzel herself, but merely "liked" her like a man likes his car or his clothes. Like a possession. The moment Rapunzel's hair looses its power, Gothel completely forgots about Rapunzel and Flynn and goes straight to the mirror, showing that the only thing wich really matters for her is herself. That's typical psychopath/sociopath behavior: selfishness, manipulation, lack of empathy, lack of love, lack of remorse, and only seeing other people as objects wich can be used in order to obtain personal benefits. Gothel is one of Disney's best and most realistic villains.
I don’t know why, but I never really found it subtle. It was always pretty obvious to me, especially when gothel called her flower. Maybe it isn’t as noticeable as I think it is.
Without going off on a tangent about my own life, I found Mother Gothel to be a scary accurate portrayal on narcissistic mothers and their daughter. Whenever she gives Rapunzel an actual compliment, it's to her hair, not her. The little details that most people don't catch with their relationship is almost like a spotlight to kids who know that brand of abuse
Can confirm. My own narcissistic mother did this shit constantly. More with my three sisters, but I still got a lot of manipulative and backhanded compliments like this.
Yep, I used to think Rapunzel was my favorite princess because we were just alike(and we do have similar interests and personality traits). But as an adult, I realized it’s also because we both have narcissistic monsters for mothers. In many ways, Mother Gothel is the scariest Disney villain because she’s a real life problem for so many people. I love Tangled but I can’t help but feel triggered when I watch those scenes now as an adult knowing how my own mother treated me. A Narcissist’s love is always *conditional* where they will only be nice when there’s something in it for them, ie, Rapunzel’s hair. She also calls her “my flower” meaning that she really doesn’t even see or care for Rapunzel as an actual person; to Gothel, she’s still a thing, an item, that she can use for her own selfish reasons. Unfortunately, narcissists usually never change for the better so this abuse is still way too frequent.
exactly, i think overall mother gothel was portrayed very well and realistically. the way she tries to absolutely destroy rapunzel's self esteem and constantly manipulates her is honestly what makes her one of the scariest disney villains, as others have mentioned. that and the way in which rapunzel is still able to stand up for and be confident in herself, no longer willing to take the abuse, are what makes this movie feel so powerful for me
When creating the character of Flynn Rider, the male animators went and asked all of the women around the office what they were most attracted to (both physically and personality wise) and created him from there. So Flynn is statically speaking the most attractive Disney Prince based on what legitimately is attractive.
I kind of agree with what they said in the video. It's good, but it's a very straight forward princess movie. It's the characters personalities that make the film stand out. But still there doesn't seem to be anything that makes it deserving of being rated above what it already is...?
@@TECfan1 I think Tangled has the reputation of being underrated because it was the predecessor to Frozen which is worse than Tangled in most ways but Frozen was VASTLY more popular. Tangled was an extremely successful movie still, it's not like Dreamwork's Road to El Dorado which is actually "so underrated". People just don't give credit to Tangled for being responsible for the 3D disney era, it's a pretty landmark film in that regard. Tangled is a well rated movie that I'd say is slightly underrated.
@@iminumst7827 I feel like saying Frozen is much worse than Tangled is a matter of opinion. I personally enjoy it more. The question is...why was it much more popular by audiences? It was not promoted by Disney any more than usual. So obviously it has a good reason to be highly liked.
@@TECfan1 No, it's not a matter of opinion. It is pretty easy to point out where Frozen fails and Tangled succeeds...but only one example: If you take Let it Go, yeah, it might be a better song than any of the ones in Tangled, BUT it doesn't fit into the story as well as all the Tangled songs do and Tangled doesn't have a dud like Fixer Upper either. But Let it Go is also the reason why Frozen is so popular. That and a good timing for its release. Tangled was released in a pretty strong year for animation, Frozen in one in which it was pretty much the only good release outside of a studio Ghibli movie which wasn't widely available at the point.
Eugene is by far one of my favorite Disney characters of all time. The obsession with his nose, and the constant smolder looks are GOLD 😂 I love watching this movie with my little brother and sister ❤️
For his design, they apparently brought in a bunch of people to describe their "ideal man" or something. I don't know if that’s true or not, but I find that hilarious
To me, the strength of this film is the realistic portrayal of a toxic relationship between Mother Gothel and Rapunzel, of an abuser and their victim in a family setting. She raised her into a submissive personality, constantly masking her insults with sweet words, chipping away on her confidence with criticisms about her looks and the way she does things, basically undermining her as a person every time she utters an opinion. I think anyone who grew up with this kind of toxic and abusive personality could recognize the pattern immediately. By the end, Rapunzel almost had a grasp on her independence only for it to be snatched away if not for Flynn's decision to cut the very chain that tied her to her abuser. I think the psychological struggles undertone is why this film is revered by many.
The romantic song, the life-saving tear, it's all classic Disney- done with excellence here, but still- but the fact her parents never gave up hope and kept sending out those lanterns for nearly two DECADES? And it finally all paid off and they got their daughter back? I just-
The lantern scene is one of the most beautiful animations and seeing this film in 3d REALLY made the effect all the better. The theater was so bright and kids were jumping to try to catch lanterns and looking around, it was insane how real it felt.
Yes to all this. I enjoyed Tangled so much when I first saw it, I saw it a second time at a different theater that was showing it in 3D and I was knocked out. There were only a few times when it made a huge difference (the butterfly in the morning was one) until the lantern scene, which was HUGE -- I too wanted to reach out and touch the lanterns that were clearly just inches in front of me.
I love how much you get to see the love developing between Eugene and Rapunzel compared to the most early Disney movies. It really shows how far Disney has come in terms of their character and relationship development.
Especially when you watch their first movie Snow White, where the only interactions they have is the beginning when Snow White sings by the well and sees the prince, being startled and running off. Then the next time they interact is when he kisses her "corpse" and they ride away together. 😂
Well that happened because, as I heard it was difficult at that time to animate the "realistic" male characters since the prince of Snow White had planned to spend more time in the movie and be kidnapped by the witch (surely in one of those scenes he would be like waking up snow white) but, unluckily, that didn't happen and well, the princes began to take on importance later on as the company grew....by the way, no one notices, but rapunzel and eugen are not the only couple to have more interactions. .there was tiana and naveen, beauty and the beast (which was before them) only that people continue with the lie of stockholm.
A little detail that I love is the first lantern that is put into the sky by the King and Queen has the kingdom's symbol the sun, and it's purpose is to bring back the princess. Out of all those lanters that is the only one with the sun on it and it did reach the princess! Rapunzel saw it about to hit the water and pushed it back up into the air. Such a small and sweet moment that the lanterns did their job.
Also if you think about it it symbolizes her birth parents hopes of finding her almost going out but she unknowingly lifts it back up. Notice that it drifts back towards the castle after she saves it, as if she’s telling her parents “I’m here, your work is paying off. Just a little longer, and we’ll be together again”
So, the story is simplistic, and as an adult i think it's easy to see that mother gothel is bad and just using Rapunzel, but as a kid I thought that she was showing genuine love and concern and distress. It's crazy, but i at least realized quickly that she was gaslighting and abusing her still. I know a lot of people did actually discover that they were being emotionally abused through this movie, one of which i knew personally. If anything this is a good guidebook to teach people how to spot gaslighting.
Everyone did indeed do their own singing. Zachary Levi has done plenty of musicals onstage. And Donna Murphy (Mother Gothel) is a genuine Broadway star with tons of credits; she gives one of the very best pieces of voice acting for animation that I've encountered. In terms of the fairy tale of Rapunzel, the screenplay kind of turns it upside down. "There's a girl named Rapunzel who lives in a tower and never cuts her hair" is about all they kept. But in the story she's an ordinary village girl who gets kidnapped because her father made a thoughtless promise to Mother Gothel, and it's a prince who finds her. And then Gothel catches the prince and makes him fall from the tower which blinds him, and then casts Rapunzel out when she turns out to be pregnant, and eventually she and her baby twins discover the prince and she restores his sight with her tears (although nothing in the story has been magical before).
I'm glad you watched this!! Unpopular opinion, but I think this is WAY better than Frozen. The writers did great, especially with Zachary Levi's character
The reason this movie is highly praised and regarded by most as the best Disney princess movie isn’t because of it’s nuance or deep story necessarily. The characters are just so lovable and memorable (especially Rapunzel, the most likable princess ever), while the music is done masterfully. “And at last I’ll see the light” gives me chills to this day. It’s just a gorgeous journey to go through. You should see the behind the scenes of the voice actors, it’s kinda magical in a way The animated series explore their characters even further if you want to get deeper with it, but the movie alone is fantastic At least you guys enjoyed it despite expectations
there's a video by Cinema Therapy where they numbered 11 signs of gaslighting by Mother Gothel and it's incredible. Like, for example, how the only times she praises Rapunzel is when she's touching/looking at her hair and things like that. it's quite interesting.
The moral I gathered is that even if everyone in your life tries to gaslight you, it is possible to meet and surround yourself with people who will just love you not love what you can do for them. Love doesn’t need to be transactional.
I watched a great video essay that theorized that without the first like 5 minutes of the movie (aka backstory/prequel material), Rapunzel would be infinitely creepier and watching this reminded me of that.
The absolute best part of this whole (amazing) movie is when the guard runs in to the king and queen’s chambers and nods silently in shock. So much emotion is conveyed silently, it’s so powerful. I cry at that part every time.
If I had to choose between Tangled or Frozen, it would be Tangled. I really like both movies and I thought that Tangled just didn't get the focus it deserved. I bought Mandy Moore's and Zachary Levi's relationship. It felt authentic and it made me believe that they were in the room together. I liked that Rapunzel saved Eugene instead of the other way around. It was a little bit of a twist just like Frozen where the "Love" was Anna saving Elsa. FYI, Mother Gothel was Doc Ock's wife in Spiderman 2. One of my favorite Disney songs is I See The Light because Mandy Moore has a beautiful voice and I was taken a back by Zachary Levi being able to sing. If you do a search for the song there is a video of both of them singing the song in the booth.
Same, I didn't really think he can actually sing because of Alvin and the Chipmunks lol. I guess he's just that great at pretending to be a bad singer.
"Keep you safe and sound" strokes her hair as she says this. Her pet name is flower, and everytime Gothel makes a comment of affection towards rapunzel it's actually directed towards her hair.
You gotta watch a disney short called "Tangled Ever After" it is so funny. There is also a tv show (don't have to watch) that tells the story (with the original cast) like how Eugene proposes multiple times before they officially get married
I agree. Tangled Ever After is a must watch as an ending to the story. The show is good but I feel like it aims for a younger audience. But I'd love it if they could react to that too
I'm so glad you guys decided to watch this because this movie has been in my top 10 list for almost the past 12 years now and hasn't moved. Another good one you should check out if you haven't already is The Princess and The Frog. Keith David does a hell of a job as the villain in that movie and the animation is timeless given that it was the last Disney film to use traditional animation and then Tangled came out right after this.
This is SOOOO much better than Frozen. Zach Levi was awesome! It really is another underrated gem among the Disney and Pixar movies. I really enjoyed this movie FAR more than I thought that I would, and wish that this movie had the reaction that Frozen had, but alas. Thanks guys!
I like Tangled more than Frozen, but I still really enjoyed both Frozen movies. Since they snuck Flynn and Rapunzel into the first Frozen movie I desperately want to see a movie with both casts combined! :)
Frozen has one of the best first fifteen minutes I've seen in a Disney movie. The songs, the animation, the drama, everything. Then it goes downhill from there.
@@SCharlesDenniconpersonally I actually like the intro song the Vuili (?) during the ice harvesting sequence. My main problem is I don’t get why Kristoff and Sven are there, and then the men apparently abandoned them?? Personally I would’ve much rather had the original story where Elsa was fully planned to be the villain, maybe where she started out innocent but because of her awful parents’ treatment she became the monster they deeply feared, not giving a crap about anything anymore and just becoming the monster they told her she was. I legit cannot stand Elsa’s parents because BOTH of them always treated Elsa like a circus freak and her powers were a curse instead of teaching her they were a blessing that could be used for good and her gift doesn’t define her worth, similar to the message in Encanto.
Same. I legit never got the hype surrounding Frozen, and I remember being rather disappointed after watching it. Thank god I didn’t have kids so I wasn’t plagued by Let It Go or Frozen fever. I honestly don’t get why Tangled didn’t do better, let alone why it wasn’t the movie people went nuts over. I find the story of Frozen to be kinda all over the place and the whole sisterly relationship between Elsa and Anna to be rather brittle and kinda rushed, and Hans has got to be one of the lamest villains ever. Really, all he does is break Anna’s heart and wants to run Arendelle?? Come on, his villainy was completely random and came out of nowhere, especially when the Duke literally had several lines where he was clearly suspicious of Elsa and even ordering his soldiers to KILL Elsa first chance they got. How the heck was he not perjured and imprisoned in Arendelle for attempting to commit regicide against its queen?? All he got was “Arendelle will not be trading goods with Westleton anymore?” Really?? I could go on with my issues with Frozen’s sloppy plot, but I’ll leave it there. I also don’t buy the romance between Anna and Kristoff, it felt incredibly forced and rushed, especially when Anna’s whole plot was “not marrying someone she barely knows” and understanding love isn’t an overnight thing, regardless of Disney’s prior relationships with characters like Snow White, Cinderella or Aurora. And unfortunately, the trolls made it worse, I don’t even get why they’re in the movie, especially because the trolls in the original novel of the Snow Queen are the actual villains and cause the problem. Yeah, I’m supposed to be gaslight by a bunch of stupid rocks Anna’s true love is Kristoff, and Hans is not the one for her, someone the trolls don’t even know? I actually buy the theory the trolls are the real villains and somehow brainwashed Hans to be the villain so that Kristoff could win the princess’s heart
it blows me away that you guys had never seen this movie before. one of my fave animated Disney movies for sure. I'm just glad you got around to it eventually, this one was an instant classic for me. loved the reaction lmao
This video gave me so much nostalgia. When I was younger my little sister would watch this movie all the time, and I basically memorized it because of the amount of times I’ve seen it. Haven’t seen it in a few years though so this video was delightful.
Rapunzel: uses a frying pan to smack people into another dimension All the abuelas wielding chanclas: *Finally, a worthy opponent! Our battle will be legendary!* You could say the soundtrack for this movie is _golden_
Fun Fact: Zachary Levi has gone on record to say that he only accepted the role because he hoped that he would someday end up in a Kingdom Hearts game as he's a massive fan. (He later wound up reprising his role for Kingdom Hearts 3)
Actually this isn't true. He has been a Disney fan since he was a little kid and he's always wanted to do a voice since he was a little kid. I've seen him mention that in numerous interviews. I've never heard him mention taking the role so he could be in Kingdom Hearts. He was actually at a convention recently and somebody mentioned the Kingdom hearts game and he said he's never played Kingdom Hearts and he's not sure where the rumor got started.
For those who haven't noticed, or ever seen it said on the internet before. . . Rapunzel and Eugene make a very brief cameo in Disney's Frozen. When guests start to arrive for the coronation early in the film they can be seen among the crowd crossing the bridge into the castle. It's a 3/4 rear profile so it's easy to miss, but they're there.
A small detail I love is during "I See The Lights" is that the King and Queen's lantern was the one that Rapunzel kept from hitting the water. All the other lanterns have little to no designs while theirs had the Kingdom's symbol and remember that they are suppose to find their princess which the lantern did, it went right to her.
A nice detail in the movie is that Mother Gothel always kisses and touches her hair when she says she loves her, because that's what she cares about. Fyln on the other hand always pushes her hair back, when talking to Rapunzel because he likes/loves her
I’d say the movie was nuanced enough for what it is. The classic story is that a prince shows up at the tower, calls Rapunzel to call down her hair so he can climb up, and he rescues her. This time around, he’s a morally grey thief, there’s the manipulative evil mom, and Rapunzel has a lot of layers herself. The known “Rapunzel, let down her hair” line was only used when he actually tried to rescue her in the end, which was great. It was a “he said the thing!” moment
It is also a very good portrayal of gaslighting and what it does to people, as well as showing how a healthy relationship should look like compared to a toxic one. There are children which have realised what their parents did to them because they watched this movie.
I personally think it's a coming of age story. The message for me is Rapunzel finding her own independence and carving her own path, and following her dream. Also it can easily be used to talk about abusive relationships as Mother Gothel is clearly gaslighting and mentally abusing Rapunzel, even in the simple lines such as "getting kind of chubby" and "look at you, you think that he's impressed?" Oh and the dark, twisted version of this story is actually the original fairytale!
Rapunzel did still feel somthing for her "mom" at the end she reached for her when she was falling out the window she still wanted to save her regardless like you said she raised her .
I read this tfan theory somewhere and I loved it. It’s that Eugene narrating this whole movie is him in the future telling their child the story of how they met and fell in love 🥰
NGL I always wished we got to see Rapunzel and Flynn as parents. I get Ariel was the only Disney princess to become a mom (aside Esmerelda and Wendy having children too) and I was always a little disappointed Disney chose to not continue with making Disney couples parents. I’ve seen a lot of fanart with different couples with kids and Disney Princesses with baby bumps and other stuff, but I always wished we got to see Rapunzel and Flynn’s kids.
One of the most underappreciated scenes in this movie, imo at least, is when Rapunzel uses her powers to heal Flinn's hand. It gives off this strong mystical vibe that isn't ever really repeated in the entire movie. It also has my favorite variation on the charm she sings.
I saw this in my feed and couldn’t click fast enough. Fun fact: Rapunzel and Eugene are seen in the crowd with the other coronation guests in Frozen. A fun “blink and you’ll miss it” Easter egg.
Fun backstory: in the og German version Rapunzels mother craves Rapunzel lettuce while being pregnant so they name her after that lol Even as a kid growing up in Germany I found that so funny for some reason Also this, definitely one of my all time favorite Disney movies
This is my favorite Disney movie because of all the psychological aspects that are present in it. Each time I watch it, I pick up on something new. It’s a very well thought out movie.
it would've been unrealistic if they went with the approach of making mother gothel likable and then "show" her real side at the end. the whole point is that rapunzel, like you said - can't tell that she's abusive, but the audience can, people from the outside who aren't their victims, can see gothel's real face. this is very much accurate to real life. she's strikingly similar to my experience with my mother, and i only truly realized how abusive she had been in my late teens, same way rapunzel did. so this movie really resonates with me. about the message, i guess it's a good story for kids with bad parents? gothel serves as an example of what a bad parent can look like, her actions and words are like caution signs to look out for. at least that's what stayed with me after all those years.
Tangled is one of my favorite Disney franchises and rapunzel is my favorite Disney princess. I remember before this movie the only people around me my age who even knew Rapunzels story was other kids who watched the Barbie movies and this movie was just such a completely different spin and it’s just so beautiful.
She didn’t immediately fall in love with him because she has no idea what that even is. She doesn’t know what having a crush is or what love even feels like, given she was raised by gothel. And that’s part of what she learns by the end of the story. That not all people are bad and scary. Plus the thing she wanted was freedom, not love, like in other Disney stories.
@@Justhppy2behereI mean, to be fair, Aurora was the ONLY princess whose dream was about falling in love. Anna was the second princess who’s dream was about finding true love aside wanting to fix her broken relationship with Elsa. All the other girls had very different dreams, and they just happened to find men that loved them as they were and helped them achieve their dreams. I find Tiana and Naveen’s dynamic very similar to Raps and Flynn because they couldn’t stand each other at first, but as they got to know each other better they gradually fell in love and helped each other better themselves as people. I find them an underrated couple.
Now u guys definitely have to watch the tangled animated series So much added lore amazing new characters and the songs are absolute god tier. And legit years of proposing till someone said yes 👏🏼. Definitely need to check it out!
This is such a great movie. I have seen it so many times. I remember the first time at my dad's house with my little brother. We were having a lot of fun and our dad was sitting on this tablet. When the horse came on my dad laughed so hard🤣 that he started watching the movie with us. It was so much fun. We all loved it❤
If you ever consider it, I HIGHLY recommend you watch Tangled: Before Ever After (movie) and Tangled: the Series (or Rapunzel's Tangled Adventures as they renamed it), the movie is basically the pilot for the animated series, it takes place after the end of the original movie but before the Tangled Ever After short movie (6 minutes long). It expands on the world and lore of the sundrop, and is just really entertaining to watch. I'm currently rewatching it for the third time I believe. The first season is very much world-building, character introductions, and setup for season 2, which is the "journey arc", with both filler and plot-based episodes, with season 3 being the climax of it all with some filler mixed in. What I'm trying to say is that if you ever do consider watching it, know that it's gonna start slow and without much overarching plot, but as it goes on (just like Gravity Falls) it leans more and more into the plot. Definitely worth watching, it's absolutely amazing, and the original VAs reprised their roles!
You’ve never seen tangled?!? That movie is probably my favorite Disney movie and I love both the movie and the cartoon series that follows. It’s such a classic now haha
Zachary levi does sing and did sing in this movie, no one sang in place of him. He sang a lot before tangled and still does. Basically grew up singing and it totally payed off bc he's amazing at it! Definitely watch videos of him singing!
No body really got this part but when Flynn said " hay fever " he intentionally got the guards attention so that he can betray the brothers and they would get caught... but I could be wrong that is just how I saw it
My favorite Disney princess movie! A few years ago, when my son was four, we went as Rapunzel and Mother Gothel. He was Mother Gothel, which was so hysterical!
One of the best Disney movies for me. So strong moral. The first time when evil is not so simple and clear, bad parent isn’t just that stepmother, which is by defoliant evil and everybody (including main character) hate her, but evil is hidden, it’s an abusive parent and it’s something new. It’s in a little details, phrases, but if in the beginning it wasn’t that kidnapping story, at first 30 minutes somebody might not have guessed that she’s a bad guy. And I don’t know, but for me that’s important detail in 32:47 which no one notices: Rapunzel doesn’t want her dead, she unconsciously draws hands on her. Because whatever Gothel did to her, I think Rapunzel had kind of attachment, she lived with her as daughter for 18 years and of course they had some good moments. That’s why sometimes victim of abuse can’t escape.
I watched this so many times as a kid. My sisters loved it. Honestly I did too. It was hard to miss, could never do a first time reaction to a movie like this 😂
Tangled has always been one of my favorite Disney movies, I remember watching it at least five times when it first came out in theatres, it's definitely one of my comfort movies
Mother Gothel is one of the villains that scare me the most. The way she belittles and manipulates Rapunzel is soooo close to something people go through in real life.
To answer your timeline questions, Meet the Robinsons is 2007, Princess and the Frog is 2009 (2008 is Bolt), and 2012 is Wreck It Ralph. Frozen after that in 2013. Moana after that.
I love that you reacted to tangled! My favourite part was both of your faces during the lantern show when they were in the boat, the smiles reflecting how I feel during that part! Thanks for this!
So, this isn't the only installment in the Tangled series. In order of chronology: 1) This movie, Tangled 2) Tangled: Before Ever After, a movie in a 2D style, which leads into 3) Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure (originally known simply as Tangled: The Series), a 3-season 2D tv series 4) Tangled Ever After, back to the 3D style. As much as I'd love it you don't have to react to them, because I know that would take up a lot of reactions lol, but I do recommend watching them, they're great. Idk if it would be possible to react to some of the songs? If so, my personal favourites are: Nothing Left to Lose, Next Stop Anywhere, Wind In My Hair (and its Reprise), Everything I Ever Thought I Knew, Let Me Make You Proud (and its Reprise), Ready As I'll Ever Be, Waiting in the Wings, and Crossing the Line.
you guys!!! this reaction was amazing and so is this movie. you guys should react to all disney princess movies or just disney movies in general. for princess i recommend “The Princess and the Frog” if you havent seen it,its one of my all time favorites!!!
Original story of Rapunzel : a peasant stole the flowers of a witch to heal his dying wife but the witch noticed and stole their baby in return. As in the movie, Rapunzel is stuck in a tower without door, working for the witch as a slave. To enter or exit, the witch has to climb on Rapunzel’s long hair. One day, a prince finds the tower and climbs inside by curiosity. He meets Rapunzel and both fall in love. They meet every time they could until Rapunzel becomes pregnant and the witch noticed. The prince tries to protect Rapunzel but the witch makes him fall from the tower, cutting Rapunzel’s hair and his eyes got gouged out in his fall. Rapunzel escaped the witch and found the prince, blind and lost in the forest. Her tears heal his eyes and they both live happily together.
Tangled is my favorite movie of all time and I feel no shame in saying that. It has my favorite soundtrack in any Disney movie ever, I enjoy the story, and the characters are fun. Love this movie 😂
The song Rapunzel was singing to make her hair glow and heal Flynn, isn’t about her parents. The song is about turning back time which is what her hair’s power actually does. For example when Flynn hurt his hand the magic turn back time to when his hand wasn’t hurt. This is more apparent with how mother gotten used rapunzel’s hair to stay younger, she was turning back time for herself.
I've considered moving my sister to an isolated tower so no obsessed Westerner can ever track her down. She's been way more popular than me during the pandemic on the internet and I can't allow it

Tangled
Both at the time.

Unfortunately, narcissists usually never change for the better so this abuse is still way too frequent.
exactly, i think overall mother gothel was portrayed very well and realistically. the way she tries to absolutely destroy rapunzel's self esteem and constantly manipulates her is honestly what makes her one of the scariest disney villains, as others have mentioned. that and the way in which rapunzel is still able to stand up for and be confident in herself, no longer willing to take the abuse, are what makes this movie feel so powerful for me
Compared to how Eugene pushes repunzel’s hair aside to look at her face
Eugene is THE best Disney Prince of the modern era NO question. He's incredibly well developed.
And Kristoff too, whenever he marries Anna ☺️👑
@@pottop880 I personally wouldn't agree, but you do you.
@@pottop880 Very true.
i can say naveen actually
@@pottop880 even then, he's second place with not great competition
When creating the character of Flynn Rider, the male animators went and asked all of the women around the office what they were most attracted to (both physically and personality wise) and created him from there. So Flynn is statically speaking the most attractive Disney Prince based on what legitimately is attractive.
. . . Huh. I feel like this is something that should be done more
From all princes I believe him and Naveen are the most handsome
they did it right
I’ve heard about this! I heard the group of women was called “The Hot Guy Committee”
That's why he's probably the most loved imo
I don’t know why but Tangled seems to be so underrated. It’s legit the best disney princess movie. Severely underrated
I'd argue Princess and The Frog
He's also voiced by Chuck Bartowski
For his design, they apparently brought in a bunch of people to describe their "ideal man" or something. I don't know if that’s true or not, but I find that hilarious
@@You-Tube-n5k that would explain the nose joke.

@@tiagoalves2056 Omigosh, YEEEEEESS

Fun fact! The lantern that Rapunzel stops from falling in the water is the one her parents released moments earlier 😭
I am not ashamed to admit I went to see this movie in 3D by myself as a 20-something year old man and it was worth it just for that lantern scene

I never noticed that detail. Neat.
Thank you guys for acknowledging Maximus as _the_ best character in the movie.
And the most badass horse of them all, despite some steep competition.
I dont know, I dont think that's an unpopular opinion.... is it?
@@otter13 yeah it’s not unpopular
I heard that Zachary accepted the role in the hopes that he could be in a Kingdom Hearts game, because he likes the franchise!

You should see the behind the scenes of the voice actors, it’s kinda magical in a way
The animated series explore their characters even further if you want to get deeper with it, but the movie alone is fantastic

there's a video by Cinema Therapy where they numbered 11 signs of gaslighting by Mother Gothel and it's incredible.
I watched a great video essay that theorized that without the first like 5 minutes of the movie (aka backstory/prequel material), Rapunzel would be infinitely creepier and watching this reminded me of that.
what was it called? sounds interesting
@@sophiagionis it’s called “skipping the first five minutes of tangled” by CJ the X

But I'd love it if they could react to that too
Still a bit dissapointed it wasn't like what he started with at the end of the movie. That it was Rapunzel that kept asking.
Tangled is completely charming. I love the voice acting, the animation and the music. Zachary Levi has a great voice.
An interesting note: Donna Murphy (who voiced Mother Gothel, the villain) also portrayed Doc Ock's wife in "Spider-Man 2."
The lantern that Rapunzel saves from falling in the water is the one her parents released
it blows me away that you guys had never seen this movie before. one of my fave animated Disney movies for sure. I'm just glad you got around to it eventually, this one was an instant classic for me. loved the reaction lmao
The scene with the king crying just before they release the lantern gets me EVERY time.
me and my girlfriend loves this film so much and the song "i see the light" will forever be engraved in our hearts… love singing it with my partner!

Tangled will forever be my favorite. It only needs 1 film and its unique on several thematical accounts.
@@IguanaMom Huh, interesting
Tangled is one of my fav. animated movies (along with, my fav, Ratatouille... Hercules and The Sword in the Stone) so I'm so happy about this! 🥰
This is my absolute FAVOURITE Disney movie! Everything about it gives me joy and it's a comfort movie since childhood 🥰
A nice detail in the movie is that Mother Gothel always kisses and touches her hair when she says she loves her, because that's what she cares about. Fyln on the other hand always pushes her hair back, when talking to Rapunzel because he likes/loves her
There's also a six-minute short around their wedding day: 'Tangled Ever After'. You get a whole lot more of Max and Pascal. 🤗
I watched this last year for the first time and really liked it, one of Disney's animations finest from the last decade
Motherl Gothel is voiced by Donna Murphy, who played dr octopus's wife in spider-man 2
I stand by Tangled as being the single best Disney movie ever so I'm glad yall are seeing this!
I personally think it's a coming of age story. The message for me is Rapunzel finding her own independence and carving her own path, and following her dream. Also it can easily be used to talk about abusive relationships as Mother Gothel is clearly gaslighting and mentally abusing Rapunzel, even in the simple lines such as "getting kind of chubby" and "look at you, you think that he's impressed?"
Oh and the dark, twisted version of this story is actually the original fairytale!
Fun backstory: in the og German version Rapunzels mother craves Rapunzel lettuce while being pregnant so they name her after that lol
Even as a kid growing up in Germany I found that so funny for some reason
Also this, definitely one of my all time favorite Disney movies
This is my favorite Disney movie because of all the psychological aspects that are present in it. Each time I watch it, I pick up on something new. It’s a very well thought out movie.
This is personally my favorite Disney movie. I love the characters, the music, and the overall dynamic of the movie
it would've been unrealistic if they went with the approach of making mother gothel likable and then "show" her real side at the end. the whole point is that rapunzel, like you said - can't tell that she's abusive, but the audience can, people from the outside who aren't their victims, can see gothel's real face. this is very much accurate to real life. she's strikingly similar to my experience with my mother, and i only truly realized how abusive she had been in my late teens, same way rapunzel did. so this movie really resonates with me. about the message, i guess it's a good story for kids with bad parents? gothel serves as an example of what a bad parent can look like, her actions and words are like caution signs to look out for. at least that's what stayed with me after all those years.
Plus the thing she wanted was freedom, not love, like in other Disney stories.
plus, not all young girls are pining for men 💀 let’s please stop assuming that
@@Justhppy2behere Agreed. She realises what love actually is by the end of the movie, through Eugene's selfless actions.

Wow wat a pleasant surprise of a notification. This movie is great
The scary reason Mother Gothel turned to dust when she fell is because she's either MANY centuries old or she could be 1,000 years old
If you ever consider it, I HIGHLY recommend you watch Tangled: Before Ever After (movie) and Tangled: the Series (or Rapunzel's Tangled Adventures as they renamed it), the movie is basically the pilot for the animated series, it takes place after the end of the original movie but before the Tangled Ever After short movie (6 minutes long).

Mine and My sisters favorite comfort movie. One of our favorite things was to count all the Injuries Flynn/Eugene should’ve gotten in this movie.
No body really got this part but when Flynn said " hay fever " he intentionally got the guards attention so that he can betray the brothers and they would get caught... but I could be wrong that is just how I saw it
Tangled is fantastic😄. Also, so is the television series that they brought out… With Mandy and Zachary repricing the roles as Rapunzel and Eugene
This is my daughter's favorite Disney movie 🥰 we've seen it a million times. The show is also VERY good.

As much as I'd love it you don't have to react to them, because I know that would take up a lot of reactions lol, but I do recommend watching them, they're great. Idk if it would be possible to react to some of the songs? If so, my personal favourites are: Nothing Left to Lose, Next Stop Anywhere, Wind In My Hair (and its Reprise), Everything I Ever Thought I Knew, Let Me Make You Proud (and its Reprise), Ready As I'll Ever Be, Waiting in the Wings, and Crossing the Line.
this is such a welcome surprise to see in my feed! can't wait to watch y'all react to one of my favorite movies!!
I'd love to see y'all react to more disney animation you've missed out on! Tangled is a forever favorite of mine :)
I just realized when Mother Gothel says “to keep you safe and sound dear” in the song, she's talking about and to Rapunzels hair
you guys!!! this reaction was amazing and so is this movie. you guys should react to all disney princess movies or just disney movies in general. for princess i recommend “The Princess and the Frog” if you havent seen it,its one of my all time favorites!!!
I was so surprised when I saw this movie. The humor really hits.
Mother Gaslight is such a good modern villain.
I love this movie so much, I just love it and it’s always so fun seeing someone enjoy it as much as I do thank you for the reaction guys
Tangled is my favorite movie of all time and I feel no shame in saying that. It has my favorite soundtrack in any Disney movie ever, I enjoy the story, and the characters are fun. Love this movie 😂
You should absolutely react to Brave if you haven’t watched it yet!
Is it weird I’m singing along with all the songs in this movie
No
No. Not at all.
This is not what I expected
thanks for reacting this movie
I've considered moving my sister to an isolated tower so no obsessed Westerner can ever track her down. She's been way more popular than me during the pandemic on the internet and I can't allow it
Underrated comment
This was nice a surprise and even more surprising you guys haven’t seen this !!!
Great movie more Disney reactions please x
Great reaction guys x
I love how quick they were to defend Maximus when Eugene called him a bad horse 😂.
The near-identical smiles are too much. 💙Great time guys. Thanks.
