    Fridge horror moment: Can you imagine being Bruno and getting out of the house, turning around, and seeing your niece going after the candle - and then watching the house fall on her? And not even being able to go be with the rest of your family while you process her apparent death, until you notice the family spreading out to look for her?
    Bruno needs about five million hugs for those five minutes alone.

      @cupguin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +77

      I didn't catch it the first time through but the depiction shifts from the opening scene when she's telling her granddaughter the story and then at the end when Mirabel finally understands her grandmother.
      The grief and the lasting trauma is handled so wonderfully but that tiny change in telling the same story is so moving. How do you explain to a child something that traumatic? It's important for her to know because it's been poisoning their relationship for years. On the other hand Alma clearly wanted to spare her granddaughter from the whole horror. He's not just a man in a picture, this was a man she loved. She didn't just had a life with but was planning a future with. Then she's alone with three children reminding her of the life she lost each and everyday. It's exactly what Mirabel needs to hear but it's the last thing Alma wants to tell her.

    This movie is so great and there's something about the gifts that makes everything better. The triplets gifts represented things Abuela wanted when her husband was lost. Bruno because she wished she could've seen what was coming, Pepa because she needed someone to put out the fires, Julieta because she needed magical healing to save him. Then the next gen is also things she wanted. Isabela because she wanted to be loved by the town, Dolores so she could know what was going on around her, Luisa because she wanted the family to be helpful and useful, Camilo because she was missing her husband, then Maribel didn't get a gift because Abuela needed someone to one day take her place. Finally Antonio got a gift that Maribel thought he would love, showing that the gifts are switching to Maribel now!

The weather responding to her emotions FORCES people to pay attention and take notice of her feelings.

    Bruno breaks my heart, yes Mirabel had it rough, they all did, but her family loved her, she was looked after. Bruno got blamed for bad things happening when he didn't cause them he just saw them, then he spent 10 years in basically solitary confinement. He said he had a lot to apologize for what did he have to apologize for? He didn't do anything, he ran away, sort off but what else could he do?

    • @JohnDoe-ur3tr
      @JohnDoe-ur3tr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      You can't really say Bruno ran away. He hid away to protect Mirabel so no one would think she might wreck the house as she grew up. Remember, only Bruno knew about the vision until Mirabel found it again and let it public. If he wasn't trying to protect her, he would have still be there albeit the miserable "creepy" uncle that no one is friends with.

    • @3kylajsmith

      @@JohnDoe-ur3tr Exactly, he had to abandon his home and live alone, because he knew how his family would react. We saw them freak out at the during the engagement dinner. Poor Bruno knew they would assume the worst and tried to protect her. I shudder to think how he got food and where he washed, etc. We saw him sneaking around, so I'm assuming he was getting food and going to the bathroom. The magic could have stepped in earlier, poor man spend 10 years in the walls.

      There are even very cool and funny theory about how Dolores was found of Rats Telenovas of Bruno that she could hear through the walls.

    The guy is basically unlucky (a stereotype in hispanic culture) and the mom's cooking can cure anything. So it hints that they probably met due to his accidents. Meanwhile for a husband he is a very good listener, which is shown by Mirabel opening up to him first about Bruno's final vision.

    I love that thr grandkids of each daughter had similar themes: see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil = Camilo, Dolores, and Antonio (the kids of emotional Pepa & Felix). Then: brawn, beauty, & brains = Luisa, Isabela, and Mirabel (the kids of practical Julieta and accident-prone Agustin). I thought that was some awesome writing and creative storytelling. There's obviously the generational issues but I think everyone experiences that. Sometimes you have to go through it many times.

    I LOVE that the family being fixed had to begin with Isabela and Mirabel hugging. They're two sides of the same coin. Isabela is raised to be the next matriarch, but that's actually Mirabel's destined role. Isabela feels trapped into her circumstance and feels resentful of Mirabel because she sees her being ignored as having freedom, and Mirabel resents Isabela because she's jealous of her golden child status. They were the two key family members who had to come to an understanding before the family could begin to heal.

    Luisa’s song hits so hard for me, cause I know what’s it’s like to be the “strong one” in the family. And that pressure of always having to be on point and to make sure things went smoothly.
    Never being able to crack, and always having to make sure you handle everything that’s out on your back. Until you really feel like you’re gonna break. It’s not just about being strong physically, but mentally and emotionally to always have to carry the weight of your family on your back. To the point that any sight of weakness is considered a flaw. It’s such a bop, but it always makes me cry.

    • @lilybirdflowergum8683
      @lilybirdflowergum8683 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t feel like that was Mirabel’s gift. If you look at her character, it could be interpreted as a metaphor for being disabled, physically or mentally. Especially since she’s the only person outside of her father in the family that wears glasses, aka a disability. She’s treated as different, unable to do the same things as everyone, in the way, etc. Same could be said for Bruno. They’re not physically abused, but in a family that wants perfect, busy children, they are seen as imperfect and therefore neglected for the more perfect children. And the point of the movie could be that you don’t need to have a “gift” or a talent to be worthy of love. You don’t need to be able to do the same things as everyone else. So to say that Mirabel’s gift is the house is sort of undermining the point of the movie as well as the multiple interpretations that Mirabel’s character has. Not every giftless protagonist has to have a power at the end of their movie, right?

  • @ThatBrunetteFromCali

    There’s a lot of theories as to why Mirabel didn’t get a gift. But the one that makes the most sense is this:
    The casita is the embodiment of the spirit of Pedro, Alma’s husband. And he gave each Madrigal member a specific gift to protect themselves & others around them. A lot of people think Dolores has super hearing so in case the valley got attacked by the conquistadores, Dolores could hear them coming. Luisa could fight off armies, Julieta could heal any injured villagers, Bruno could see them coming in the future, Pepa could basically flood them, Isabella unlocking her plant growing potential could grow more crops if the Cons burnt them down. But because Alma lost sight of what the miracle was for, Pedro needed someone to basically be a voice for him to relay the message of the fading magic. Overall, Alma was the key to restoring the magic because the family wasn’t “healed” until Alma returned to the river where Pedro died. Even the images on there doors was foreshadowing how old each Madrigal would be when the house fell.

    The following is half confirmed/partly widely theorized/ and all my personal head-canon.
    Abuela didn't have a Magical power. She was however, given a gift. The Encanto. She received it when Abuelo Pedro gave his life to protect his wife and children. In that moment Abuela became the "candleholder" or others use the name "Miracle Holder." She was the one to keep the family and, even more so the town together. Eventually when the family got bigger and more complicated, the "foundation" the Encanto was built on grew unstable. Because Abuela was always from the very beginning full of greif for her husband, and fear that she may lose her home and/or family members again. Her fear was amplified more and more by Bruno's constant visions of the future. Until finally, Bruno had the vision of Mirabel. I don't think Abuela saw the vision judging by her reaction when Mirabel found it. Bruno disappeared. This upset Abuela much deeper than the other fsmily members. This was her son. She felt like she had lost another family member.
    My theory and personal head-canon is that Casita, is Pedro's spirit incarnate. And the candle was in Pedro's lantern when he gave himself up. That's the item that was enchanted. Pedro's spirit in Casita (to be referred to as Casita from this point on) could tell that the magic was fading LONG before the family members even noticed. That's why Mirabel wasn't given a gift. Because she would be the next "Miracle Holder" after Abuela, because without a magical power she'd be able to investigate the familily's issues more closely and more determinedly. But it goes deeper than that.
    Notice at the end of the movie, the candle doesn't come back. They don't show you the candle. Well, do you think any of the family members could've put that doorknob on and gotten the magic back? No. Only Mirabel. Why? Because Casita used Mirabel's door when she turned 5 to imbue her with just enough of the candle's magic, so that when the candle inevitability went out and the house fell, the Encanto, the mountains that sprung up to encase the town, would stay intact. And if Mirabel had led the family down the right path, the magic could be restored without the need for a candle. And eventually another kid in the Madrigal family will watch their door disappear and they won't be sad. They will know that that means they are the next "Miracle Holder."
    BOOM!!!!!!
    If you have any questions please reply. I know I've left some stuff out.

    The idea is definitely that she's the heir to the Miracle itself, because she sees the family and not just the magic/safety. It's just so good, and between Dos Oruguitas (best song) and the sister's embracing Bruno upon his return I just can't ever stop the tears. But, NEAT FACT (which you might have noticed but it was edited out): during We Don't Talk About Bruno, during Dolores' (super hearing) part (where she is DEFINITELY HINTING (do you understand!?) that she can hear Bruno), you can see Bruno behind her up on the balcony creeping around and even vibing to the music.

    I like how with some of the visions it was stuff that would inevitably happen but it gets complicated when Delores and Isabella sung their parts in “we don’t talk about Bruno”; Isabella was told she’d get the life she wanted, while Delores was told her love would be with someone else. Isabella didn’t want a life with that man, that was Delores’s love. If it all went one way in life then one of their lines wouldn’t have been a thing, either Isabella would’ve gotten the life she wanted(this time line) or Delores would’ve been heart broken (another time line). Bruno was getting undecided fates before seeing the vision about Mirabel.
