The original actually had 4 musketeers too. The 3 musketeers referenced in the title were Athos, Porthos and Aramis who were a famous group of musketeers. The story starts with young D’artagnan meeting them and becoming part of their group.

This was a hecka women empowering movie for 8 year old me. You gotta understand that these aren't Disney & Dreamworks movies which are animated but made for everyone - Barbie movies are specifically made for kids so they use some cliches, a few lame jokes, and talking animals to keep kids' attentions while relaying their message.
I think one of the closest they got to more mature (Disney-esque) humor was The Pink Shoes which is basically a ballet satire - which was AMAZING

Yess! I loved this concept, things that women were expected to carry around and were "acceptable" being used as weapons! It kinda reminded of how much a similar concept was developed in Totally Spies too! Although more technicologic than the ones in this movie, even totally spies had things that were considered "feminine" and "unquestioned if carried around by women/girls" as weapons! As a kid I loved this concept!

A big problem I had with the movie was the villains final plan, He wanted to sneak in a sword, disguised as a decorations. To then attack him in the middle of the ball with everyone around him during the Fireworks, which luckily for him everyone went right to the window to look at instead of anyone hanging around behind the prince to look at them. he could've just had his men stationed at one of the entrances and sneak in a dagger, then wait or lure the prince to a secluded area and stab him, I mean his dog is literally named Brutus.

She is fleeing from her responsabilities which is wrong AND wanted to abandon the mermaids by making a wish to a magic fish. Not sure it is a good message to learn to kids and adults. In mermaidia Barbie did everything to save the mermaid kingdom. She was brave and kind, never loose hope too. What she teaches us in Mermaidia was important and positive 🙂

    • @AMStryx
      @AMStryx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

@Lady Pool Actually, in the 1st Mermaid Tale though she planned to refuse to be a princess and only helped to get rid of the mermaid changes, it was because she was never told about any of it beforehand. She was lead to believe that she was fully human and mermaids weren't real, so it isn't really fair to expect her to just immediately except this whole other role and stuff that was dumped on her out of nowhere(at least from Merlia's perspective). She basically got blindsided so Merlia's reaction is pretty realistic since it's not easy to deal with finding out that *everything* you thought you knew about the world and yourself was wrong. Plus, in the end when she is finally offered the chance to abandon her responsibilities with zero personal consequences, she passes on it and accepts the mermaid and princess stuff.
Even as a princess though it would be wrong to expect her to sacrifice the entire life she had been building to only be a mermaid princess, without any kind of reservations/hesitation. It's not easy to accept responsibilities that you never actually new existed, let alone ever even asked for. Not every girl dreams of becoming a mermaid and/or princess.
Also, when she called on the Dream Fish, she didn't actually know for sure what it was actually going to offer to her as her "greatest desire". In the moment she just wanted to escape a whirlpool she was trapped in and called in the fish hoping it could help her.
You can't really compare Merlia(Mermaid Tale) and Elena(Fairytopia) to each other since both are made to be different characters even in personality. Their circumstances are also completely different(1 is in the "real world" and the other in a fantasy realm). Also, Elena took the thing she learned from Azure in Fairytopia to heart("for the friends you haven't met yet") so it's easy to see why she would be more than willing to help save the Prince(who had helped her out in the 1st Fairytopia) and his kingdom.
Merlia on the other hand never had any personal ties to the mermaid kingdom, NOT counting the blood relation since she'd never known about it previously due to her grandfather lying to her saying both her parents were dead. She also never had a mentor like Azura to help her learn the value of helping people you don't know(besides activism).

    Things I love about this
    - sees the mom "shes a MILF".
    - Assuming Corinne killed her dad
    - Assuming Corinne is from America instead of any part of France that isnt Paris
    - not knowing about the Three Musketeers (og)
    - *sees madame Helen* ..."GILF" 😂
    - affronted "you are NOT faithful to Rothbart"

This movie had such an impact on me as a child, it's not even funny. Like I remember watching that scene from 8:50 where the chandelier drops for the first time and my mind was just blown. Also this movie was responsible for seven-year old me thinking a fan was an actual weapon and my dad making fun of me for that for like 2 months. Wild phase of childhood

18:50 I wrote a little something. The prince says this to the Barbie character (I didn’t pay attention to names). It’s from Barbies perspective.
He looked at me stunned. Looking as though he was a stone statue he managed to mutter,
“Your… a girl?!” I looked at him will a face of disapproval. I wasn’t angry, just disappointed. I responded to with a deep, mocking voice,
“No, I’m a grown man wearing a dress.” Returning to my normal voice, “Of course I’m a girl.”

The musketeers is a French tale about three men names Athos, Porthos and Aramis and a young man named D'Artagnan who wants to join the musketeers after his father was murdered. (the movie also features violence. Or maybe try out the BBC series The Musketeers, it has three seasons and more violence and death)
