  • Our new ceramic coatings are unique chemistry -- with unique age statements, or durability claims. So how do we come up with those numbers? Do we just make them up, or are they based on real data? In this podcast, Nick and Yvan go behind the curtain to give you information about our new 3, 5 & 8 year ceramic coatings -- in addition to our new ceramic metal coating. What questions do you have?

    Love how straight out the gate of this video you tackled how it was a new company but that doesn’t mean the coating tech doesn’t have time in the game!!! Completely transparent and honest! Nick even went back to it later in the video to put the doubters to rest. Yvans 40 years of experience, the chemists 30 years and then you have Nick a very well versed and successful detailer who is willing to push back and eager to learn and has the heart of a teacher. I trust you guys and know that you aren’t going to put your names on products that don’t work and aren’t quality, others def agree and that’s why you guys have been so successful and will continue to be. This is what makes DIY Detail so good.

    Great podcast! No one in this business is as transparent and honest as you guys on ceramic coating! I am not a detailer but rather a car enthusiast who recently got rid of every single product and replaced them all with DIY Detail products as I have seen the difference in action. Just got a new Subaru Forester 2023 and was looking into options for a ceramic coating as I was looking into other brands and options. My car is parked 24/7 on the street as I live in NYC. After this podcast, I am going with DIY Detail and now I'll have to find a pro detailer who can do this for me. Thanks, guys! Please keep up the good work.

    Just put the 3 year coating on my truck (the gloss and slickness is insane i have to say. Those are the coating i’m going to install professionally from now on). I wash my truck twice weekly and was curious if All Clean as a pre-treatment twice weekly during my washes would harm the longevity of the coating. I totally get that’s over kill, but I’d like to have the option.

    20:35 , the bare minimum of an hour to get it out in the rain, that blew my mind. I always try to find a way to keep my client's cars indoors for 12-24 hours in case of rain, which is quite difficult as a mobile detailer. There is so much information here and there, but all coating brands have different recommendations. If we could actually expose a freshly coated car to the rain two hours after the coating was applied, my life would be so much easier.

    Thanks for this great discussion! Im prepping myself to install a DIY coating but still undecided if i’ll go for your 3 or 5 yr as Im also considering the benefits and maintenance. Given this, i have some questions:
    1. If I install your 3yr:
    A. will it be glossier when I top it off with ceramic gloss? Or is quick beads good enough to make it glossier?
    B. topping up with ceramic gloss, will it temporarily mask the graphene of the 3yr coating?
    2. If I install your 5yr coating:
    A. will it maintain its gloss level when I top it with quick beads?
    Reason for asking is basically I want the benefits of graphene to reduce water spots and also go for the highest gloss possible. If you can give a recommendation that would be great also

    • @diydetailofficial

      Both will do a great job. If you want the best protection, install the 5 or 8 year, and 2-8 hours later install the 3 year. We call this combination The DIY Stack.
      Adding either DIY Detail Quick Beads or DIY Detail Ceramic Gloss will only help, one isn’t better than another.

    I've only used your coatings with your foam applicator pad and then I toss the pad in a bucket of rinseless wash. I'm curious, do the 3, 5 and/or 8 year coatings harden up if left overnight on a thin suede coating applicator like some of these high solids SiO2 coatings I've used in the past? Or are they more of a flexible type coating with a little bit of hardness?
    I'm really liking these DIY coatings. I have 8 bottles of 8 and 3 year to apply here over the coming months for friends and family. I also really like that the packaging is just a simple box that's pretty much perfectly sized for the coating bottle and not some over sized 8"x8"x4" box that just costs more to make, ship and then gets thrown in the recycling bin. So thank you! I've had some of my coatings come with a small piece of white foam on top of the bottle to keep it from moving in the box and others that don't. Is that Carzilla adding that foam or is that a newer thing you guys have started doing?
    Do your 3, 5 and 8 year coating contain the same pre-ceramic resin that the C6 coating has? Does C6 contain graphene oxide?
    Are you able to say what chemical makes C6 permanent compared to the 3, 5 and 8 year DIY Detail coatings?

    • @diydetailofficial
      @diydetailofficial  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      DIY Detail coatings will harden on the applicator if allowed to dry, but not like glass. One of the biggest factors with coating degradation is fracturing. Earlier generations of coatings didn’t take this into account.
      Minimalist packaging is an ever evolving goal.
      Both DIY Detail and C6 Ceramics have similar ingredients. The main building blocks are Polysilazane, Silicon Carbide, Silicon Nitride, and Silicon Dioxide. Properly maintained and not abraded, DIY Ceramic coatings will perform much longer than the stated years.
      Only the 3 year contains reduced graphene oxide because of the short term nature of the graphene characteristics.
      The big difference with C6 is the addition of Detonated Nano Diamonds. They increase durability, gloss, and hydrophobics.

    I'd like to try your ceramic coating, but I applied another coating to the car a few months ago (let's just say it's a popular one that comes in a can that is rated for 6 months to a year). Do you have any advice on how to prep the vehicle to maximize the adherence of the new coating? I've been slowly trying out DIY detailing products when my current chemicals run out, and I've been very happy so far. Switching the coating is the only thing I'm a little nervous about.

  • @ItsMeYourRealDad
    @ItsMeYourRealDad 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    What are the practical uses for the different coatings other than price costs? Let's say I buy the 8 year coating, can I not polish it again for 8 years? Even just a light jeweling polish would probably not remove it all but surely it would damage the coating. I say this as it doesn't seem possible to 100% remove the risk of fine scratches from the wash process. Even with all the correct washing methods, 2-3 buckets, correct tools, mitts, prewash, drying aids etc etc it seems impossible to entirely eliminate scratches. So for a daily driver, which option would be better? I've currently got a 12 month fusso coat that I top with diydetail quick beads (great product btw)

    • @diydetailofficial

      @ItsMeYourRealDad - you do realize that ANY TYPE of rubbing that you’re doing to the paint (washing & drying) is already removing ANY coating that you have on the paint.
      If you throw a polish on top, it’s game over. Ain’t nothing gonna be left behind expect bare paint, even from the lightest polish, applied gently by hand.

    1- Coating comes in a metal bottle which is nice. No dropper cap though. This is a problem for most but I used pipettes that is used in the scientific industry. Maybe attach it with the coatings.
    2- side of the box has a QR code that is a nice idea but poor execution. The QR is only to your channel but not the specific directions for this specific product. I think that could be better done by having a link to a specific video that gives instructions for that specific product.

    So,,,,,,, here’s my problem. I finished coating the vehicle in the afternoon. The next day(let’s say 18hrs later) the customer picks his buggy up and drives home. The roads here in Western Canada in winter are wet and slushy and have road salt on them(or that liquid de-icer). Those are chemicals in the salt or liquid. The customer can’t wash his car to get chemicals off because it’s -10 out. Is the coating toast?

      @waxmanvids5015 - that’s because the coating is basically gone at that point, hence why it’s better to do a quick spray detailer every few wash cycles vs a long term coating.

      @@I_know_what_im_talking_about slickness has nothing to do with how a ceramic coating performs. It's just an attribute that we like to feel… Ceramic coatings can last for years without feeling super slick at touch and still have that gloss, self cleaning, characteristics and water beading. you don't have to take my word for it.
