The oldest recorded instance of a team attempting to steal signs dates back to 1876, when the Hartford Dark Blues hid a person in a shack to tip off their hitters when the pitcher would throw a curveball.[1] In 1897, George Stallings, the manager of the Philadelphia Phillies, had Morgan Murphy, a backup catcher, hide in a clubhouse beyond center field with a pair of binoculars and a telegraph that he used to alert Stallings to what pitch the opposing catcher was calling.[11] In 1900, Pearce Chiles, a coach for the Phillies, was caught standing on a box with electric wires that relayed to him coded messages about what pitch was coming, which he relayed to the batters by stomping on the ground.[12] Del Baker, Joey Amalfitano, and Joe Nossek were considered to be among baseball's best sign stealers.[4][13][14]
In 2001, members of the 1951 New York Giants admitted to stealing signs against the Brooklyn Dodgers using a telescope to win the National League that season.[15] Bobby Thomson, who hit the "Shot Heard 'Round the World", denied being tipped off to that pitch.[16] In 2017, the Boston Red Sox were caught stealing signs against the New York Yankees and relaying them using an Apple Watch, which was not allowed to be in the dugout.[17] The incident resulted in a fine for the Red Sox and warning issued to all 30 teams concerning sign stealing.[18]

All the commentators say the owner was so disgusted, he fired them. What else could he do? He needed a manager and GM in those positions. The players who did not participate in the cheating still benefitted from the scheme. Vacate the title and pit the MLBPA between the cheaters (1 team) against the aggrieved (the rest of the league). My God, man, you have access to Google. What's wrong with you?
MLB's prohibition on gambling is comparatively strong, and explicitly sets permanent ineligibility as the punishment for betting on a baseball game in which you had a part.
From Rule 21 of the Baseball Business Rules (which govern off-the-field rules of the league): Misconduct:
      (d) BETTING ON BALL GAMES. Any player, umpire, or club official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has no duty to perform shall be declared ineligible for one year.
Any player, umpire, or club or league official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared permanently ineligible.
That's a rule that's posted in every major league clubhouse, and has been since the Black Sox Scandal. That's simply the punishment doled out if you're found to have bet on a game in which you had a role.
Rose bet on games while he was the manager of the Reds, and eventually admitted to betting on Reds games. He claimed that he never bet on his team to lose, but even betting on his team to win specific games could impact his strategy as a manager; he might, for example, overexert his bullpen trying to win a game that he bet on, while letting players rest on games he wasn't gambling on. He's claimed that he bet on the Reds every night, but it's hard not to question his credibility on the matter considering he'd lied before.
The report on the matter (investigated by John M. Dowd) officially discovered no evidence that Rose bet against his own team, but asked about it in 2002, Dowd said that he believed it was "probably right" that Rose bet against the Reds.
It should be noted that Rose voluntarily accepted a permanent place on the ineligibility list; in exchange, MLB never officially made a finding on whether he bet or not (which he denied at the time, but has since admitted).

Why do you care so much? Is your sense of societal fairness disturbed? Rose knew the consequences, but did it anyway. Fuck him.

Never ever going to happen. What you and the two people in this video fail to realize is that the MLB is a business and what makes the most money? Winning teams, not failing teams. Winning teams creates a lot more fans who buy stuff like tickets , merchandise, tv views etc. They will never hurt a teams chances to win that much because it will affect revenue. If you were the MLB commissioner and this was your business would you do something to harm it? Absolutely not. So you clueless, emotional fans should seriously get real. The MLB is an entertainment business first and foremost. No matter how much this offends you and how much you cant stand the astros, there is nothing that a team can do short of murder that would actually call for any type of penalties that will directly affect a teams revenue, which in turn affects all revenue of the MLB. Anyone that thought they would do something like that does not want to see things for what they truly are, and I know why. Most sports fans are completely delusional or maybe naive to the fact this is entertainment and a business first. When you realize this, then you will understand so much clearly why these teams and organizations/commissioners make the moves that they do.

This being a camera in center field whose video goes directly to the Astros clubhouse and relaying that message to the batter in real time. If that’s not bad then let every team just do that. The game would be very different if that was 100% legal and made part of the game. It wouldn’t be the same game we all love anymore. It’s either you care about the integrity of the game or you don’t.
