In a galaxy far, far away, the evil Empire has created a powerful weapon called the Death Star, capable of destroying entire planets. The Rebel Alliance learns of the weapon's existence and sends Princess Leia to retrieve its plans, which contain a vulnerability that could be used to destroy it. Leia's ship is intercepted by the Empire, but she manages to hide the plans in the memory banks of an astromech droid named R2-D2, who escapes with his companion, C-3PO, to the desert planet of Tatooine. There, the droids meet a young farm boy named Luke Skywalker, who becomes embroiled in the fight against the Empire when he discovers a message from Leia hidden inside R2-D2, urging him to seek out the legendary Jedi Knight, Obi-Wan Kenobi.
