I would like to know Layne's opinion on acute injury recovery protocols. I personally believe that the PT/Doctor Advice for acute injury of RICE Rest Ice Compress and Elevate are unnecessary and potentially harmful to healing. I would like to know if you could look at the research and give us your opinion. I feel like the suggestion is wrong for a similar reason to why people saying sugar causing cancer is wrong. I think they cannot understand the difference between acute and long term inflammation as well as they misunderstand the mammalian wound healing process. The first step to signal wound healing is inflammation and it signals the healing process to continue. But for some reason we try to get rid of the inflamation. I think its important to have the inflammation to both heal and tell your body not to use the injured area because it is inflamed and painful. I dont have acces to a lot of research but the only paper i could find on the topic actually saw more necrotic tissue in the icing of wounds and slower healing so it seems like it really doesnt add up as advice.

Can you help me, please? I started taking whey protein, and I gained six pounds in two weeks despite being in a calorie deficit. I started a weight loss journey two years ago. I lost about 55 pounds by operating in a constant calorie deficit. I plateaued and had no idea what to do. I started to gain weight again, but very slowly. I would gain it and then lose it. Gain it and then lose it. Then I had a slow gain again. I wanted to try something different to shock my body (besides increased exercise). So, I tried taking whey protein and dropping a meal (breakfast). I did have noticeable digestive issues after beginning whey. It was a whey concentrate. I did not believe that I was lactose intolerant. I have never had a noticeable problem with dairy before. Today marks one week since I stopped taking whey protein (concentrate), and I dropped two pounds. Hopefully, the trend continues because the sudden six-pound weight gain freaked me out, especially when I knew that I hadn't consumed nearly enough calories to gain six pounds in two weeks. I count my calories and keep track in my fitness app. I have been doing so since 2018, so it's a habit now. I only drink water too. So, if you don't mind, I would appreciate your advice or insight as to what might have happened.
hey thanks for summing it up quickly. after poking around to see what people were saying about Isolate whey, I bought a 5 lb bucket of it. There's only three ingredients in it. They list it EXACTLY as: "Whey protein Isolate, (whey protein, soy, lecitin)" and the weight ratios are 33 gram serving to 30 grams protein. So, not much other stuff in it. NOW after buying it I find out that Whey Isolate will spike your insulin like mad. my question is this: how can I lose weight when I'm spiking my insulin because I hear that you can only burn fat from your body when the insulin is low. Got any comments on this conundrum ?
well, protein is not consumed for weight loss. If you want a pure weight loss protocol, then try keto and eat moderate protein and higher fats. Macro breakdown of 70% fat, 5% carbs, 25% protein. If you want to build muscle, eat 1 gram of protein per 1 pound of body weight and fill in the macros with carbs or fat as energy. Now about insulin spikes, first they are temporary and you will go back to a low insulin state after. Second, insulin is the strongest growth hormone in your body, and it is vital in muscle protein synthesis so taking whey protein right after a workout and having a spike in insulin is key to muscle growth. So, plan your program for your goals. Protein is not consumed for weight loss. Protein is consumed for preserving muscle or muscle growth.
As of right now, I have nothing against whey. But I don't like his approach. "On this channel, we don't fuck with feelings." That's an ignorant statement. Hey Layne this is something that maybe not many people on this channel care about . I know your awesome at going through data so if you or someone on this channel can fill me in on clear cut data I am just very interested in keeping my skin looking best for as long as possible and the sun is know (for sure) to be the top thing that ages the skin. Thanks hope to hear from you or someone about this
Sorry Dr. Layne, but this time you got it wrong. You wouldn't know this, of course, because leaky gut caused by whey protein powder is not from any of the ingredients listed. It is caused by the "naturally occurring MSG" in most processed proteins (glutamate amino acids that are "shed" from their parent protein during processing, which, to rectify the open molecular bond assume their mono-salt molecular structure...Monosodium glutamate). MSG created as a "natural byproduct" of protein processing IS NOT listed in the ingredients (because it wasn't added). Soy sauce is super concentrated liquid MSG (marinade tough meat in soy sauce overnight, and it becomes tender...that is MSG breaking down muscle tissue). How do I know all this? Because MSG causes havoc to the central nervous system and brain. To those intolerant, like myself, whey protein powder exacerbated my epilepsy and gave me seizures (there is that much MSG in whey protein powder). I actually treated my condition by going on the G.A.R.D. (Glutamate, Aspartate Restricted Diet/Gut Absorption Recovery Diet) developed by Dr. John B. Symes (a veterinarian who has effectively treated / reversed / eliminated the symptoms of all manner of neurophysiological and neuropsychological disorders (including fibromyalgia, ADD/ADHD, epilepsy, autism, schizophrenia, and more) in tens of thousands of animals and thousands of people. There are no "randomized human trials" for the effectiveness of the G.A.R.D., only thousands of POSITIVE OUTCOMES for those who had no choice but to turn to a VET because allopathic medicine FAILED THEM UTTERLY (myself included), because there is NO MONEY to be made with a strict elimination diet like the GARD. Don't take my word for it, here is Dr. Symes's website: dogtorj.com/

Let me explain what "whey" actually is and where it comes from. It is an extract from cows milk. That's all! It's actually extracted during the cheese production process. It was once useless and was washed down my local village sewer system and became a problem. However, in the future it became useful and is now heavily used as a filler for particular foods and also is used as a muscle/weight gainer. I know of farmers that feed it to their cows to make them fatter! The crap you buy in a big container should just go in the trash.

would love to get your thoughts in a video on casein protein vs the others (isolate, concentrate) for the purpose of optimal muscle building, or when to consume.
I drink my shakes before bed so I decided to try casein. What they don’t tell you is that regardless what brand of casein powder you get it’s extremely thick, basically un-drinkable
This is well known. Casein can be useful in certain situations because it takes longer to digest. As mentioned above, before bed can be a good spot for it. But when it comes to building muscle, whey is king.
I watch a video say that whey protein is not complex protein. So it do not need more calories to metabolize as natural source protein(like chicken breast). Also i watch them said that whey protein is spike insulin so when insulin drop it make more easy to hungry. Is that all true?
100% agree with you, I'm one of those people that gets bloated with isolate 🤦🤦🤦. I switched to beef protein isolate along with apple juice (for taste) but I would have never made the switch if I didn't know what exactly was causing it which is why I appreciate videos like this. 💪💪💪
"That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence". Depends how you define evidence. Your framework to establish evidences is still based on axiomatic assumptions (belief system). Anyway, still agree that his take on whey protein was extremely biased, but don't fall into extremes. It's not either the worst thing in existence or perfect thing without flaws. I think whey protein probably has certain inherent flaws for humans, but if those flaws are significant enough to be concerned is different question.

Blood work
@@JoshBenware which tests?
@@TheFloozi basic blood work will reveal creatinine levels. If you lift weights it will be a little higher than normal. If you want to make extra sure they can test your urine (I forget what that one is called, but I'm not a Dr. I have taken both tests though).
@@JoshBenware uric acid, was it?
@@TheFloozi "Your kidney numbers include 2 tests: ACR (Albumin to Creatinine Ratio) and GFR (glomerular filtration rate). GFR is a measure of kidney function and is performed through a blood test. Your GFR will determine what stage of kidney disease you have - there are 5 stages. Know your stage.ACR is a urine test to see how much albumin (a type of protein) is in your urine. Too much albumin in your urine is an early sign of kidney damage."
Could be the artificial sweetener in it. That’s what destroys my stomach
What is your most recommended whey protein brand ? As here in our country we only have a few options ....nitro tech, gold standard, dynamatyze, and a few more
Can you help me, please?
I drink 100%grass fed nz whey protein isolate every single day and no issues with it
Why does it matter if it's grass fed? How do you know they are really grass fed? Aren't most cows grass fed 90%?
@@JoshBenware nope most are fed corn
Has Whey Hydrolysat all Amino's because of some products stands only the 3 BCAA's?
hey thanks for summing it up quickly. after poking around to see what people were saying about Isolate whey, I bought a 5 lb bucket of it.
I feel confident you bought that just for this video
Straight firing off facts out here, you love to see it!
so in this VS battle who won? I need to lose weight but gain a little muscle mass. My wife needs to gain weight without muscle mass any advice anyone?
As of right now, I have nothing against whey. But I don't like his approach.
"On this channel, we don't fuck with feelings." That's an ignorant statement. He's very passionate about his love for whey. That's a feeling. Why would one get into whey, and fitness and all that? To * feel* better, to feel good. So... It's lame when people say unconscious things like this
The t-shirt detracts from the lab coat. It's better paired with some sort of collared shirt, like a polo. My styling suggestion is provided at no cost to you, like your excellent videos are provided to me!
I'm sensitive to dairy not exactly intolerant. I tried the exact same protein shake he is showing twice and both times it made me throw up. Could that be because it is hydrolyzed? I can didnt have this reaction to say Premier protein brand which contains (Premier Protein Shake Protein Blend (Milk Protein Concentrate, Calcium Caseinate, Whey Protein Concentrate)). Looking for Lactose free options =/
4:30 what did the control group get in that study? Did it prove that people build strength, lean body mass extra vs people getting the same amount of protein from meat? Or did just not give a group protein and compare them with the whey protein group.
I subscribed just because of how entertaining you were 👏
Hydrolyzed "pre-digested". Where do I sign up? I'll predigest some whey just to be able to get my fix for free!
Can i continue using whey protein isolate while i am on acne medications (retinoids) ???
Okay, so you're arguing against this argument and not for it. No reason for me to watch the video and criticize you after since you're the one doing the criticizing.
Can someone comment on whether Dr. Ben Bikemans whey protein will spike blood glucose because, like all protein powders, it's so processed?
Would be nice to know intolerance/sensitivity of raw whey and pasteurized whey given the conformational changes during pasteurization
The only way I can consume whey isolate is in a smoothie. If I just mix it in a shaker and drink it, then that's when the stomach issues happen for me
I love Friday because of what the fitness.
Whey protein is fine if you can digest it. Still not better than real food. Usually people take it because they can’t get enough protein in their daily diet.
Which protein should I grab? Not sure… I want to gain weight and muscle so I’m leaning toward getting the extra calories in with the concentrate. Pls let me know
I always thought he was full of sh-it, but now he is wearing a white labcoat so now I trust him completely and will remain loyal forever.
Can you get acne from isolate protein ?

Whey Isolate is the only thing that works for me. Stomach’s messed up because of antibiotics (similar to what Gordon Ryan has but not as severe, bjj tingz. The only time I’ve ever had a problem was if I consumed it on an empty stomach. Choosing the right protein supplement should be necessary study, especially for beginners. Awesome vid.

Hey Layne this is something that maybe not many people on this channel care about . But you think you could look into sunscreens and if “chemical” sunscreens actually affect your hormones/endocrine system and other negative things that have been associated with them. I know your awesome at going through data so if you or someone on this channel can fill me in on clear cut data I am just very interested in keeping my skin looking best for as long as possible and the sun is know (for sure) to be the top thing that ages the skin. Thanks hope to hear from you or someone about this
did you ever figure this out or find a good source of info on this?
Use factor 50 and you basicallu shutdown any and all conversion of vitamin D.
That'll have an effect.
Symes's website: dogtorj.com/
okay imma give whey isolate a try LOL im not lactose intolerant but i just choose not to consume dairy because it really does break me out with acne (face and back). but ill give whey isolate protein powder a chance.
I use whey protein isolate.
Thinking of goat whey just to see if it’s any better.
Why do the ingredients on the ISO 100 whey say contains milk and soy though?
What if you have IBS-C? Will you still be okay with hydrolyzed?
when hes doing the choppping motion at the end along with the lab coat sometimes looking like a karate GI made me lol it looked liked he was not just pissed off.but he actually wanted to karate chop his arse lol
I currently have been using Ascent protein. I like vanilla. The only "bad" ingredients I see are natural flavors and sunflower lecithin. Any opinions would be appreciated. There are so many choices and im an amateur.

Labcoat Layne: *comes to existence*
Huh 🤔
If there was ever a video where someone didn't prepare and research first this was it. He could of at least picked the right form of protein.
Just started taking whey and the bf said it would wreck my guts. Popped in to double check my research, being lactose sensitive, and noticed I bought that exact one.
Hydrolyzed whey isolate. Haven't had any trouble and will reassure the bf I'll be fine 😉
Does hydrolyzed proteins increase uric adic level in the serum ?
I just realized that fter 3 months gym and change one of my meal everyday to only drink protein i got a bit leaner and not it helps my diet because it makes me feel less hungry
would love to get your thoughts in a video on casein protein vs the others (isolate, concentrate) for the purpose of optimal muscle building, or when to consume.
I drink my shakes before bed so I decided to try casein. What they don’t tell you is that regardless what brand of casein powder you get it’s extremely thick, basically un-drinkable
casein is terrible digestion wise
This is well known. Casein can be useful in certain situations because it takes longer to digest. As mentioned above, before bed can be a good spot for it. But when it comes to building muscle, whey is king.
I watch a video say that whey protein is not complex protein. So it do not need more calories to metabolize as natural source protein(like chicken breast). Also i watch them said that whey protein is spike insulin so when insulin drop it make more easy to hungry. Is that all true?
Hello anytime you eat you get an insulin response.. food needs it to get to certain parts of the body
Anyone here know of any good studies on COMBINED PEA and RICE protein powder? Iv been using it for the last few years, but I cant find info on the leucine content and what not..
