People forget Cleetus makes content. Getting engines from different people adds to that. Everything used to be LS. He’s branched out and has engines from different builders and manufacturers. It adds to the channel. That is his job. Let’s also consider how long it would take to get engines rebuilt if he only used 1 builder. At the rate he blows up engines he would be waiting forever. Gotta spread it around.
I would hope that dealing with ONE company, that they would have MULTIPLE backups sitting in the warehouse that are Cleetus' specifically. While Steve COULD do that, Cleetus isn't gonna drop $300k for 2 extra engines sitting in boxes at Steve's place IN CASE he breaks something. Texas Speed having a larger warehouse could do that if they chose to, or ship them to him to keep in the big ass barn where he keeps the toterhome across from the shop.
most of his engines still use the LS platform except for I believe Neighbor and Mcflurry and soon to be Eagle so it isn't like he abandoned the LS platform but you're 100% right about how it adds to the channel
I think the biggest thing being overlooked is sponsorships. Cleet doesn't get free engines but he gets some sort of discount with the advertisement value from the views he gets. Steve can get him a scratch and dent SMX and a refurbed big block but if he built and reworked every single cleetus engine at a discount he'd never be able to complete his other customer engines that bring in more profit. One or two engines each at multiple engine builders and now he gets more discounts and a better chance of an emergency rebuild just once or twice a year. It's an everybody wins scenario.
They use(d) LS for everything because they know the engine inside and out. But if he wants to keep progressing they have to step out of their comfort zone.
Texas speed was the original OG, it's just the progression of racing. As the program gets more serious, so does the chassis and the engine. I don't hear anyone crying about mullets chassis. Which I might assume was built by any TH-cam creator
Well, I normally don't make comments on other machine shops repairs, but this was drawn to my attention about the repairs that were made on these cylinder heads for Garrett, @6:24, when you showed your work on the repair of the blend of the cylinder head combustion chamber, I noticed that there was a lot of pitting and excessive voids in the filler weld. This is a common issue when TIG welding aluminum material in a cylinder head (to bring back depth and height) when the main core is not heated to a specific temperature. From my experience, I had the best results when I stripped the cylinder head down to the bare core and placed it over a open flame at a low heat setting on a rack in a controlled fire box. I would let them slowly (cook) up to the specific heat that I wanted. ( It would take up to two days mostly ) But when it came time to do the repair welding, the end results were unnoticeable and a better product that didn't promote torching, especially under boost. Just food for thought.

Cleetus uses his reach to raise the online profile of other shops. Be those chassis or engine builders, tuners or body workers, lawncare guys or concreters, helicopter maintence facilities or RC plane builders. There is no hate - just a guy having fun, spreading the love and building subscriber numbers for others. Not every tuner or engine builder offers a package for every car - doesn't mean bridges have been burned with everyone he has previously worked with.

If he was only working with people who offered him discounts first, he wouldn’t be working with as good of companies as he does because some of these bigger name companies are already doing well themselves and don’t really actively look to reach out to people because they don’t really NEED to, but when someone as big as Cleetus comes knocking to use their product, it’s a no brainer on their end to work a deal with him

Also all you genius engine guys ever look at what cleetus's tuning was doing to the engines timeing under boost at 6-9k rpm it changed it by 15 degrees like a friggin wood peckers heart rate the best of engines with this style of tuning would go to shit eventually they tried to gimp that poor SMX for that square box cleetus used and after poor tuning running it on a flat cam on 7 cylinders at 9k rpm and it still stayed together if that in itself don't speak volumes about how great the SMX is then I think many of you should understand the basics of an engine and the constraints of tuning like he did especially under 40psi+ boost the SMX is an amazing engine. I don't know steve any more then I know Cleetus but I do know engines and I do have common sense Cleetus could of put ryan martins engine in mullet and it would have to be gimped like he gimped the SMX
At first I commented that he should put a fresh SMX in Eagle because I was under the impression that it was going to replace Mullet as a drag and drive car. As soon as he posted a video at Pro Line I knew that was not the case and that he was building a dedicated racecar. Why would anyone assume there would be beef over this?
Well, KSR said that the car was going to be too heavy, but that's the way he wanted Mullett built. However, at least he's raised awareness and brought more eyeballs to your shop and to pro line.
When you run a few thousand hp shit breaks , but the research that Steve has put into the smx is unreal to think an engine of that power level can be driven state to state and still put a car into the 5s is pure wizardry
As for the SMX that was in Mullet. Harmonics do really weird things. I don’t think it was a fault of Steve or Cleet. It was just one of those weird engine things
People just need to stfu, mullet is a big heavy car going incredibly fast, there will always be hurdles to jump to keep it reliable at that horsepower level. Fake outrage over shit that has nothing to do with anyone.
I was going to comment on one of CJRC's vids that ProLine didn't do drag and drive engines, but I wasn't 100% sure, so I kept my mouth shut. Thank you for the confirmation in my thinking.

And since I know how TH-cam drama queens work, don’t think about going at KSR Performance for not building a good chassis. Kevin and Garret have both said Kevin’s goal with Mullet was to build a 6 second car with an LS, not low 6s trying for a 5 with a 5000hp SMX. Mullet was never designed to go as fast as it has and Kevin really overbuilt the car and did a great job as the chassis hasn’t been upgraded at all over what he originally did. Tell most people to build you a 6 second car it’ll run 6.9s then start breaking. Mullet has gone 6.3s with a very heavy car and only just now is the chassis starting to break.
I won't lie I'm a Proline fangirl, but also love Steve Morris. Let's be real Cleetus likes to turn things up to 11 and Mullet weighs about as much as the moon. It's a racecar it did amazing stuff and well racecars break, it's not a Camry.
Not gonna lie as a business owner I’d never do business with Garrett and it’s all because of his so called fans. They act like they know something about drag racing and Garrett destroying everything he drives and uses and then his so called fans attack whoever it be he is using in that vehicle. They are really screwing him over because people are gonna stop having his as customer or wanna sponsor him because of backlash they might get because people don’t know crap about making horsepower and go attacking businesses blaming them saying it’s all their fault Garrett destroys every engine or part he uses. Because the last thing Garrett does is take it easy on anything and the lack of maintenance is even worse. And when we destroys something here comes his group of no nothing fans bashing a business and company/brand. The internet shouldn’t speak for anyone or anything they don’t own themselves let alone afford or have never ran. Is simple

Garrett & Steve were still working together after the Proline video was filmed, NO DRAMA!

@@805-TFX 100% I get that it might not matter in this situation but I would feel a lot better with a good repair if it was my weld

If it wasn’t for Mullet’s big blocks, I would have never known about Steve Morris and his engines. Same as Texas Speed, Proline and HED. I’m happy to see the channel and the industry evolving thanks to the exposure of these engine builders.
So there’s no beef with this Garrett guy, but what about with cleetus😆
I don't care what the rumors say, I'm new to this detailed big block engine building scene- This Man, Steve Morris is an Absolute Legend!

Cleetus does it for discounts!

@@AR-ed3xw and? Not everyone he works with is because of that, and it’s also extremely way more likely these companies give him a discount AFTER he reaches out to work with them and they find out who he is. Since they’re gonna be in his video and it’s basically like sponsoring him for the advertisement at that point. If he was only working with people who offered him discounts first, he wouldn’t be working with as good of companies as he does because some of these bigger name companies are already doing well themselves and don’t really actively look to reach out to people because they don’t really NEED to, but when someone as big as Cleetus comes knocking to use their product, it’s a no brainer on their end to work a deal with him
@TheJerseyNinja I guess you need to pay more attention before coming at someone with that huge paragraph of wrong! He literally gets discounts for view and like counts, as has been discussed! Yall cleetus d!c* riders really are something else!

I certainly don't know.. I'm a musician and music producer who dabbles in automotive youtube because I enjoy working on my old Firebird but I don't race it either.. I can still guess; does drag imply that it's strictly a trailer car that runs on the track? while drag n drive implies a car that is still street legal and able to get around without a trailer?
Steve, the average viewers are ignorant of how engines and things really work.

Mullet does not have the chassis for the torque going thru it.

Oh and just for the record anyone that sends negative comments about any engine you build has zero clue nor the money to purchase your cheapest used engine. You are a legend, ultimate reliability and build quality. I’m a die hard Nelson guy and I honestly think you might just be more detail oriented than Tom is. Listening to you talk reminds me of the engineering class I probably should have paid more attention to.
The engine failed due to lack of maintenance. Not that it was built poorly or poor workmanship. Steave has been 100% open on this engine since day 1 and he’s been there every time Cleetus has had an issue with it as it’s great info for R&D. People forget mullet was meant to be a jet car and the engine was just to help get it around and up to speed for top speed run
Hardest part about being a big youtuber is dealing with some of the comments. Personally I never once felt like Cleetus was abandoning you or mad about anything. He knows exactly why it broke. Lol! Like you said, the right tool for the job.
