I was sitting there struggling to hear the video up until about 11:20 when my eardrums got blown out.
OK, some steps missed here. So I installed oculus software, got link working. I have MSFS2020 installed (without steam) and no SteamVR or OpenXR or whatever installed and.... works fine. I have a 3060Ti and i10700 but was seeing buttery smooth graphics. But I did notice that the dials were quite blurry. I upped the render resolution and maintained the frame rate, using 72Hz on the headset. This didn't graphically look much different. When I change the sim to New York all hell broke lose - so I reduced render resolution and it didn't help but it turns out it was the shrubbery that is central park. Turn your shrubs off and you can fly around NY no problem. One other thing I noticed which I guess you'll not know until you tried it is that the FOV is quite narrow when flying your plane. I got used to MSFS on my ultra wide monitor. But being as the tracking works so well I found its much easier to fly circuits etc with VR so its fine.

Thanks to you I could make everything to work. The lack of resolution of VR is very deceptive, tho. Inside the cabin I can't barely see the buttons...and the GPS screens are completely unreadable 🥺
eyetracker is superior atm vr just isn't good.
Hi thanks for the video share, its been incredibly helpful getting me on the right footing with the Quest 3 and M$ anniversary flight sim. I'm getting some nice play with the Rx6800xt and then went back for a tweak and made it better again, and there's still more to tweak 👍😁
Great video, and has meant that I can now use FS in VR. Your comment re: only switching to VR headset when in the game, changed everything. The hideous stutter and black out whilst the game was loading just jarred everything and I thought until this video, FS was unplayable. I have a 3060Ti and Finally can place this thing nice and smooth. Cheers for the vid!
I wonder why using VR is such a hassle in many games? It should be -- launch game in VR mode, put on headset = done
100%!!! And until they get that part cleaned up, VR won't take off. There should at the very least be suggested presets when you select your VR headset from a drop down. Right now there were too many variables in too many different places for the average consumer to figure this out without investing some serious time.
A really helpful video. I've been swapping between the oculus app and steam vr's openxr. I have found that oculus' version is a little smoother, although after seeing your video I might swap back and try steam vr again.
Yes the oculus app is known to run smoother. A lot of others said they see performance drops when they use steam vr
@@OzzySafa does the o app force you to also stream an image on the pc? if not thats got to make a difference.

Do you know if this process works without using steam vr? I got my sim from the microsoft store so dont really want to have more resources being used up by having oculus desktop app and steam vr open simultaneously
@@OzzySafa yes. You don't need steam vr to fly.... Just need a oculus link cable. Don't buy the expensive one from them.

This is a mine field. Bought a laptop and quest 2. I'm down £1500. Can't get it to work. Got into the cockpit in vr. No hands.
I've got steamvr and oculus working.
Absolute pain in the arse.... all the oculus games work flawlessly. I'm about to drop £4000 on a gaming rig and hotas controllers just for this game to run properly. It's killed my soul doing all this! Thanks for the great video tho. Helped alot. But some other issues are hitting me

Suspecting GamePass version won't answer for VR, so I broke down, and got Steam version of FS, and Steam VR, so, hopefully, I'll be able to get this working. Sadly, all I can afford is what I have, which is a GTX-970, on FX8350 (8 core). I've been having fail, after fail, with the cable, but once, was able to run a game in Steam VR, so, fingers crossed.
GamePass version of the game works in VR, I just tested it.

So actually, if you want to enable hand tracking option, you should:
1. Go to the settings
2. Go to the hand and controllers option
3. Enable hand tracking
Maybe it changed for two years, but now it's like that
rtx4090 runs VR amazingly good. Looks like need wait for Quest3 or Apple Headset for much improved graphics

Just to be clear, you're not seeing the same quality in VR as we see in this video, are you? Because what I see (Quest 2/Steam VR/Quest Link - official cable) looks like it's 800x600 res with that 3d glasses look, in my headset. I peek out of them and the image on my monitor looks waaaaaaay better (1440p - Ryzen 7/RTX 3070ti/32GB RAM).

Or you use Virtual Desktop and use it without link cable and wireless. Best solution.
another tip is to close out of every window that isnt doing stuff for the game, especially chrome or other games you might have open. trust me, the difference can be noticable
couldn't get it to work n my pc. When i try to switch to VR mode it just flashes a blank screen and then goes back to the menu screen

Did I take too long of a nap, it seems like just yesterday I bought what I thought was the top-of-the-line GPU (RTX 2080 ti) now if I want a top-of-the-line card it's going to run me approx $3k.

Great video!!! It work verry well for me now, with an RTX 3080. 40fps, 80hz res 1.2, settings in the game by default, render scale 100.
I will try with 72hz to up the résolution.

I dont know why, but steamvr seems to work better than oculus vr with your settings.
Maybe it s due to the vr option in nvidia panel that is set to "2" ?!?
I bought the Oculus Quest 2 for my MFS2020 with the hope of being able to fly in VR but the graphics are awful despite having tried everything they say on the forums. Can you help me on the basic steps? thank you
I have Msfs 2020 on Xbox Games pass do i still need to launch with SteamVR and If so how do I launch Msfs through Steam Vr i can see my recently played games but Msfs is no where insight bit of a noob when it comes to pcs as i recently changed from consoles also while trying to use Msfs in VR when it finally detects my Quest2 its as if I’m moving my head but I’m completely still. Ive still not completed a flight in Vr yet after 2 days of trying :(

Same here. I just got the MFS from the gamepass ultimate and downloaded it to PC and seeing most ppl using steam vr wondering if I am supposed to be also. Still works but jittery. Need to tweak the settings from this video hopefully it works.

@@BartmansBits I got it and I'm so not disappointed with it! However, waiting on pullin the trigger on a strap, but I might have to do it sooner as using the original strap for some time the sides rub on the black foam and making the strap turn black...its gross... anyone have this issue wearing the orig strap for a long time? Aside from this getting those settings right in msfs is a chore but worth it! Thanks again...look forward to more vids

Great video, thank you. Question for you, when I am in the plane everything seems enlarged. The copilot is almost on my lap. Is there a way to zoom out little to make it more a correct size.

Sorry for that guys. But why when I am looking for a specific content about VR, or trying to enable a game to play in VR, I realize that youtubers that talk about VR try to give you ALL PERFORMANCE TIPS in these videos. Man.... reallly.... I don't care about performance right now, I just want to play MFS2020 in VR, If I realize my FPS is low and I need to improve that, I am going to search for a specific video for that.
This tutorial could be reduced to a 5 minutes video....

I got it to work but my frames in vr are just so low, even when I lower the settings, but on high end settings in non vr my FPS is like 124 :/
i have quest 2 and when i activate vr mode the game shows 2 separate windows on tht vd monitor u see when u use virtual desktop it doesnt take me into the game like it does with u it just shows both windoes like in ur video

hi! when i hit ctrl + tab, the screen goes to that split screen elft eye right eye view, but thats also what i see in my goggles as a 2d screen.. im trying to do this wirelessly via wifi6 router via steam

Everyone says don’t use Stream Vr not sure what this video is conveying.
It’s conveying the setup of Microsoft Flight Simulator using Steam VR with the Quest 2 as the title suggests. If SteamVR isn’t the best option by all means, let me know what is and I will look into it.
Every time I put on the VR headset it put me outside of the cockpit.
I eventually discovered I have to go into settings, while in VR mode, and change the camera off of cockpit then back into cockpit.
Now I can't even get past the 1st tutorial because it's asking me to select something from the control bar, but i don't see a control bar.
Is it possible to use the actual plane controls? Like buttons and the yoke and everything?

Well, I tried FS2020 steam edition, connected with airlink, but the sim says "no headset detected" when I turned on VR mode. Oculus software says headset is paired with PC. What's going on?

There is a lot of difference between the cables one is 90 pounds and the others are 15 pounds/ thats 75 differences.

I tried doing all of this, but all that happened, was my PCs audio got shut down, and I could not get it back, until I uninstalled Oculus app. I was also never able to get the headset to connect to the PC when the sim was running. On cable, the Oculus app showed connection, but it never really did anything, and the sim kept telling me there was no VR headset connected. Oh well. LOL don't know how you guys make this stuff look so easy, but, ok, whatever.

I purchased Microsoft flight simulator through steam hoping to use it with my Oculus quest 2. No matter what setting I put it at I can't get above two or four frames per second. Terrible lag. I have Rizen 5 with a 1060 Nvidia 24gb ram .. I'm going to return Microsoft flight simulator and try to purchase standalone version so I can ditch the steam VR cuz I think that's the problem.

Hello, hopefully someone can help give me answer! I have a oculus quest 2, I’m running a more than capable gaming pc, I’ve properly installed msfs 2020 and I have the oculus app, downloaded and openxr as well. I followed the instructions online to make sure it’s directed the right path, I also followed your instructions on connecting the headset and linking it, I don’t have a problem doing that, I leave both running and headset ready to go, I open msfs and it’s like the sim isn’t recognizing the headset, when I look under controllers I see my joystick, I see my mouse and my keyboard, I also have a touch pointer, but no headset, and when I try to assign vr activate/deactivate, it says I’m trying to assign action to a device that is not selected. Am I missing something on the sim or openxr or oculus app? Please help!
I'm having a lot of issues of instability while running quest 2 through rift on pc anyone have a fix for this? I got a 3080RTX shouldn't be having issues.

Kinda sucks you put both eyes up there. You should have just used right eye or left eye dominant camera.

Wonder if you can help, watched your vid, thanks for that. I bought MSFS2020 from Microsoft so it is on my computer ssd drive. Plays perfect in 2D... bought oculus rift s yesterday and have been on it now 24 hours!!! I followed your vid but my ctrl key + tab will not but me in VR , I have to go into options and select VR mode from the settings and that puts me in VR ok but I have the box saying "Please look straight in front of you VR-camera reset key to set the pilot view" you cleared this with space bar I think, but all my keyboard is dead at this time...nothing, even have to shut PC down to get out of it...any ideas, any help is must appreciated. Easy fix! You can assign a mouse button or a button on your HOTAS to toggle VR. In the sim go to Options then Controls. On the left side make sure you click the arrow next to “assigned” until it shows “all” then search VR. It will show as unassigned. Click on the empty box to the right of the action and then assign it to whatever button you choose. Good to go!
