Small Update: Life Hack Number 6 (5:33): If you live in areas of the EU or an older home you might actually benefit from locking the headset to 50Hz instead of 60Hz. As 60Hz can sometimes clash with the lighting frequency of lights in your home 👀
I think you understand this setting wrong. It must be set to the frequency of you outlet. 60Hz is not better then 50Hz. Its just because the lights are flickering with that frequency and to filter the flicker out and make the tracking better you net to set it to the right setting. DONT just set it to 60Hz "because high numbers are good".
@@wyfyr6287 so you upload your videos or movies into the quest 2, and with this app you can watch them? I was quite confused because in the virtual interface there's no way to access your files.
My favorite "Hack" is under experimental features. Turn on raised seat view to play sitting down. I am in a wheelchair and must play everything seated. Most shooters required standing so I couldn't play at all, or I would be crouched in game. So, if you can't stand for long or prefer to sit, this is how to do so.
My life hack is to have a fan running, aiming at you while playing. Can help with motion sickness, and can allow you to know where you're facing, so you don't bang your wall while playing Gorilla Tag.
Interesting tip, you can trigger passthrough by tapping on one side and then the other quickly. The two taps don't have to be on the same side. I actually find the passthrough is more responsive this way.
*An amazing tip that wasn’t featured:* if you go into experimental settings you can add a separate guardian for your couch that fits the size of your entire couch and makes it easy to switch back-and-forth from seated to standing gameplay
A couple tricks: put something down, like a shirt or a small rug to use as a proxy mat so you always know where you are. Pair that with a fan pointing in front of you, and you have less chances of hitting something . It also greatly helps with motion sickness. Also, pass through mode is a lifesaver.
So I live in California and the fan originally was to just help me not have a heat stroke. Lol. I found out quickly that it doubles as a location indicator while playing too.
@@TheOfficialShortStuff I use my couch. I have it set up as the couch boundary, so I can still see it if I get close, and I know exactly where I am if I can feel the couch with my leg really quickly.
When hand tracking is on, pressing the oculus button will bring up several options and you can turn on pass-through from there which is much quicker than opening the menu
A tip from me that a lot of people forget is cleaning the tracking cameras. So many people complain that their tracking has suddenly got worse when in reality it's just a fingerprint on a sensor that's caused it. A micro fibre cloth does the trick and the you're good to go

Thanks for the video and the information. One thing - if you have the Oculus app on your mobile phone then if it is linked to the oculus quest 2 - easy process - you can just transfer all your images and videos from the quest 2 to your phone via the app. This means that in the quest 2 you will go to the media and request to transfer it to your connected devices. When you open your connected devices, you will find your media in the area for media. You then can save it to your phone by pressing save. You don't need to go through facebook. My favorite “hack” is just using the battery extension pack. If you charge the vr through the battery pack, it charges up with 200% battery with 100 from each pack. The battery pack replaces the flimsy strap that comes with it by making the design where the pack is on the back of the head and uses a dial to tighten the sides. It keeps it in place but you have to remember the top strap still needs to hold as much weight as possible. As someone who could never play without adjusting those flimsy straps, the battery pack is a must.

For anybody without a developer account and wants to get rid of guardian/tracking switch tacking from room scale to stationary then cover the sensors to avoid light then click continue without tracking and it should allow you to do what you want.
I found that using an office chair that spins works really well. I play Contractors. It's more comfortable sitting down, instead of kneeling to take cover. The chair help with quick head movements instead of using your controller. I had to use a hair tie as an extension for the controllers, my hands wont fit the other way. Nice video.
6:30 an alternative to disabling guardian now is the 'experimental' option of defining a desk or couch in or outside of the guardian area. When you then sit on the couch or at the desk it automatically asks if you want to switch to desk or couch mode.
My personal favourite is placing a small elastic or loom band around the batteries before putting them into the controllers. It stops them from jumping around during particularly fast movements. Decreases on those random split second tracking issues you tend to see otherwise!
Before I knew about the disabling guardian tip I use to just make my guardian way bigger than the room I was playing in, and just ignored the warning when it told me there was objects in my boundary
if you ever get controller wobble (Where the battery shakes in the controller; mostly a problem on oculus quest 1) you can use tinfoil to tighten the battery in place while still allowing it to conduct electricity still. This can help improve tracking as well. Also quest controllers are supposed to use 1.5 v batteries instead of 1.2 v which are more commonly used. This also helps get just a little but better tracking.

Great video. I wanted to add that there is no need to turn off guardian if you just want to sit down and use the Oculus. It allows me to define a stationary boundary while still remembering the previous larger boundary. I can then move back and forth between the two situations without turning off guardian.
Yep, that's a great option. However you would still see the bleu circle on the ground, and the transition to passthrough when coming close to the edges. Disabling guardian totally remove all of those (at the cost of security, of course).

Best hack i found is in the experimental settings you can add a couch or desk to the vr space and it allows you to transition between two guardian zones without taking the headset off.
not a hack, just toggling an existing feature on. you can define different guardians throughout your house and as you pass out of one you enter passthrough. when you enter the next guardian, passthrough is disabled and you recenter to continue.
Thanks for the tips! I record video (and stop recording) by using voice activated command. To start voice activation double click the oculus button. Then say 'start recording' or 'start video' Then double click when you want to stop and say 'stop recording'. That saves you from going in and out of the menu. *You'll have to turn on voice activation in settings--> Device --> In app voice commands, if you want this to work from inside an app. There is also a setting in the experimental set to use 'Hey Facebook' to turn on the voice command activation. Also to send video to my phone I send it in messenger to myself. Or a trusted friend. Then I can go to messenger in my phone and save it to my camera roll. :) Same goes with pictures I take in oculus.

Awesome tips on the vid, so THANK YOU!! Commenters, you were also very helpful! MY TIP: I discovered using my 2 yoga mats covers most of my place space. The texture is different than my carpet, so it's great to know my boundary limitations, without relying on Guardian. My toes find the edges. Also relieves me from worrying I will put wear on the carpet! I started with just one yoga mat, placed at the back of my play space because I am usually moving forward. That worked pretty great too, until I was able to find my 2nd mat. OTHER: I would like to see a tips video as it pertains to those of us stuck using free public WiFi (unlimited at my apt.). I suspect there is zero possibility of tying into my PC with my Quest 2 because of this ... no router, and who knows what level of WiFi access speed (I am grateful everything on my Q2 works so far though!).
When you wanna use stationary mode just made a huge guardian with roomscale so you dont have to worry about getting to close the the wall and ruin the immersion experience
I like guardian on. It allows me to comfortably navigate the virtual living space nearly wall to wall, without walking into my furniture, walls, or corners in the real life.
My favorite hack is the VR pass through. It's cool to be able to double tap my Quest 2 and be able to see everything around me, without having to mess up my view by lifting up the headset.
Here is a tip to not need developer mode to remove guardian. If you don't want to have a guardian in your way, then just aim far off (like 2x the size of the room your in) and set that as your boundary.
Okay, so number 4 ( 4:02 ) It was literally the best one by far, that I hadn't known (I figured out a lot by messing around with it). I have to put three fingers under the strap and my pinky over the strap. I do also have semi long fingers, so I didn't have any issues reaching buttons. It doesn't provide an "OMG" grip, but, it is a nice cheat until you get the actual grip replacements.
Life hack strap for hand controls. In this post you show how to connect the controller strap around the top this is what I did but I used a shoe string just cut it longer than the controller strap and tie a not and push it into place. This is for larger hands it's work great.
My best tip for the Quest 2 is to use a combination of a fan and 2 mats to always know where the center and front of your play area is. You shouldn't even need the guardian if you use this!
For the strap hack, I found it insiteful. I just adjusted it for my hand by adding an elastic band at the top, looping it around the strap. Works perfectly.
@@claymeistereu For the strap all you have to do is put the plastic at the bottom aka closest to the controller, put your wrist through and pull to adjust..... at least that's how I do it.
For #7, “turning off guardian” if you want to sit and watch a movie, in May 2021, the option to add your couch to your play space was just added. Use it to define the plane of your couch, and now you can sit down, and the quest will switch to couch mode, allowing you to watch while seated.
Using a few fans to have a wall of blown air instead of the guardian is nice. Less immersion breaking and I have found that fans reduce nausea and disorientation.

Life hack: eat a couple grams mushrooms and walk around the woods at sunset in the forest in passthrough mode.
Terrifying. What am I supposed to get from that?

I just learned my favorite quest hack:
In the air link/ link dash you can pin a monitor and it will stay in place in the PCVR game. I've added an extra display in my diamondback explorer in elite dangerous and have been mapping planets while streaming movies.
My ipad has a usbc cable and it actually works, i used that cable to get sidequest from my laptop to my oculus.
And you can press sync on the oculus and then on the meta quest app i have it in the gallery place
Tip: take care of the lenses and make sure there inline with your eyes
My favorite feature is enabling the 90Hz refresh rate. Although the Quest 2 features a smooth 90Hz refresh rate, it ships programmed to 72Hz straight from the box.
My best tip: Do not try to place your controllers on a vr desk
Best hack i found is in the experimental settings you can add a couch or desk to the vr space and it allows you to transition between two guardian zones without taking the headset off.
not a hack, just toggling an existing feature on. you can define different guardians throughout your house and as you pass out of one you enter passthrough. when you enter the next guardian, passthrough is disabled and you recenter to continue.
@@MrLichmeister most of this video is just toggling already existing features
My personal favorite lifehack was the taking screenshots, and I really liked the tracking refresh rate too
I love how I watched this whole thing even though I don’t have a be headset:)
Want one?
Thanks for the tips! I record video (and stop recording) by using voice activated command.
To start voice activation double click the oculus button. Then say 'start recording' or 'start video'
Then double click when you want to stop and say 'stop recording'.
These videos are so dangerous, I binge them so much.
Enabling PASSTHROUGH without taking off my headset was the ONE thing I wanted since I got this headset... thank you.
I've had mine a week, really loving it, the standard headband takes a hell of a lot of work to find the perfect fit, on my mission looking for a aftermarket headband.
@@Callumxfisher well oculus sent me an email saying they had issues with the headband /facepart causing skin irritation, and sent me a brand new silicone part. Enjoy 👍
Best life hack is to put your couch in with experimental mode, so when you get tired you can pass out on it.
My favorite trick is the pass-trough mode where you can see you room through the VR headset I really hope I win it.
how do u do that?
It’s a home back ground or a thing in settings
If your hands are too big for the strap on the controller (my hands are huge and this still works), just use the same looping strategy with a rubber band and then loop the strap through that and so on so forth.
My best life hack is saving up money to afford one that I just ordered is going to be here Friday I'm so excited
How is it?
@@F0g1sC0ming great
Awesome tips on the vid, so THANK YOU!!
Camping mats work just as well
No thank you Commenter
That is a great idea, I will have to try that!
to connect it to ur pc there’s a official oculus cord you can buy that connects it
either wire your oculus or get your own internet and a wifi 6 router
i don't even have an oculus quest 2...nonethless i love watching your videos :)
Same
#9 = SUPER USEFUL, thank you! Also, I appreciate the detailed reasoning behind turning it off.
My fav hack is definitely wearing a hoodie so my brain doesn't get engraved by the god awful strap
I hadn't tried that. thanks, I will. hate the strap. hate it.
Margaret Shull my man really hate the strap. Hates it
@@margaretshull4423 get the elite strap it feels like a pillow

@@persephone9307 no i like it
When you wanna use stationary mode just made a huge guardian with roomscale so you dont have to worry about getting to close the the wall and ruin the immersion experience
These hacks have definitely been very helpful! My husband and I are new to VR and this is all going to be useful. Thank you!
Just bought one. Thank you for making this video. I haven't learned any hacks yet to leave one yet.
Best life hack yet is using the box that came with the oculus as storage case to prevent dust 😁
b r u
ong, i have a small cluttered room and that box is perfect. oculus did well on the packaging 🙏
I like guardian on. It allows me to comfortably navigate the virtual living space nearly wall to wall, without walking into my furniture, walls, or corners in the real life.
Considering a Q2 and it was good seeing these tips and tricks before making my decision.
You shouldn't even need the guardian if you use this!
yes
Or just use the guardian. And stop being a weenie to motion sickness lol
@@josephb8499 rude
For the strap hack, I found it insiteful. I just adjusted it for my hand by adding an elastic band at the top, looping it around the strap. Works perfectly.
Could you elaborate on that secret technique?
@@claymeistereu For the strap all you have to do is put the plastic at the bottom aka closest to the controller, put your wrist through and pull to adjust..... at least that's how I do it.
A life hack I use with my quest is that I use infrared lights around my room so my Quest functions perfectly even in low light conditions.
Where can I purchase those lights?
😮😮😮😮 love all of your posts!!
I think my favorite Life hack is the one that adjusts the tracking frequency… and I am just about to buy one of these controller things from kiwi xD
For #7, “turning off guardian” if you want to sit and watch a movie, in May 2021, the option to add your couch to your play space was just added. Use it to define the plane of your couch, and now you can sit down, and the quest will switch to couch mode, allowing you to watch while seated.
Nice thanks
Best life hack is easily the double tap on the side so you can see through without taking off the headset
ye but oculus tells you that so it isn't really a 'hack'
Using a few fans to have a wall of blown air instead of the guardian is nice. Less immersion breaking and I have found that fans reduce nausea and disorientation.
My favorite hack is the pass through while playing I used this today with echo VR really helped because I play inside my closet and hit the walls a lot
💯💯💯20k gang💯💯💯
It doesn’t work on v28 :/
Best life hack is hitting the ceiling fan and cutting the tendons in your finger “vr echo”
shutting off the headset my siblings ALWAYS just put it into sleep mode

Hi, complete noobs to Quest, really enjoying your content l! Quick question, do you know why I can not see or find the share icon / button when wearing the headset? Thanks
Really appreciate you taking the time to put this together. This was very informative. Liked and subscribed sir! Good job.
My favourite hack is adding my desk, keyboard and chair into vr. It is just such a cool and sick feature that not many people know about.
How do you do that?
@@TheEldritchVoid Expirimental option > its in there.
Life hack;clear my whole room out just to play, then still bash my skull into a wall 😂
fav life hack: If you live in areas of the EU or an older home you might actually benefit from locking the headset to 50Hz instead of 60Hz. As 60Hz can sometimes clash with the lighting frequency of lights in your home
Make sure the room you're playing in has as many different colors as possible to get the best tracking possible. 1 or 2 colors will make your tracking bad because it can't tell how much you actually turned, looked up, or looked down
It doesn't have an rgb camera?
Lol a well lit room will do the trick
If you buy a vr face cover, keep the old one and you can use it as a cushion for the back of your head and it fits very well
damn, I just tried this. you're smart my guy
@@ICE0124 well personally I don’t attach it I just place it on the back when I put my headset on but I guess you could tie it on with a bit of string from a mask or something

best tip is not punching a hole through your wall lmfao
You can take the wrist band off and play without it.Just take off the case where the battery is and take it out
That is not the best tip..
That is something that you should have sussed out before being let out of your romper room..
I just bought one and this video was very helpful!
Favorite hack: Do not buy the extra battery pack that gives you hours of extra power, because it might overheat your quest. Instead just buy a long quest charger
Or long usb c cable but yeah I have one and I think I’m gonna try that
for the last one there is something else : agusting the plastic part on the right and left you can rotate it to adjust and it is mutch better after agusting that (sry for my english I'm french)
Life hack, smacking the wall in vr and realising it’s actually there
the best life hack that i still use is the screenshot and the quick recording thing, i usually use the recording one at the end of the recording (otherwise it doesn't pick up my mic)
