  • Throughout Book of Mormon history, there were many prophets killed for their testimony of Christ, but only one is described in extensive detail. Abinadi came among a people who had abandoned the true gospel of Jesus Christ. He taught the truth in purity and plainness, and although taken and placed in prison, he was not suffered to be put to death until he had accomplished his mission and declared his testimony.
Throughout latter-day history, there have also been many who have sacrificed their lives for the gospel of Jesus Christ but one stands preeminent above all others. The martyrdom of the Prophet Joseph Smith is one of the principal signs of the times in the latter days. Is this event foreshadowed in the Book of Mormon? Was the mission of the prophet Joseph Smith foreshadowed by the mission of Abinadi in the Book of Mormon?

    Hymn 27
"Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah! Jesus anointed that Prophet and Seer. Blessed to open the last dispensation, Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.
    [Chorus]
_Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven! Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain. Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren; Death cannot conquer the hero again_ " !

I concur with your sentiments. But I don’t think any of us are as yet fully awake. There are so many more truths yet to be uncovered before we can consider ourselves fully awake. We are still asleep in many ways. Here’s to a mind completely open to the promptings of the spirit, always seeking always embracing truth.

He was truly the greatest man that ever lived, excepting the Saviour. I'm so grateful that my Mother invited those Sister missionaries into our home for a cup of coffee (lol!) 66 years ago! ❤❤❤

Joseph Smith has become a name to be avoided by church members today, but we (thankfully) are starting to see some encouraging signs of a return to defending his name. I know many people who left the church and when you ask them why, the first words out of their mouth are "Joseph Smith." I know one member who stayed in the church for many years, despite losing their faith, but they would only participate so long as we weren't talking about Joseph Smith, and they refused to sing any hymns that mentioned Joseph Smith. Another member I know (who is in a bishopric) recently expressed how grateful they were for the church's recent efforts to focus more on Jesus and less on Joseph Smith, and how great it was that hardly anybody spoke of Joseph during sacrament meetings anymore. I sadly reminded him that without Joseph Smith, we are just another Protestant church.
All this has weighed heavily on my mind, so I looked forward to this most recent conference, hoping to hear something--anything--about Joseph Smith. One by one, I listened to amazing talks, yes, about the importance of Jesus and our covenants with him (which I agree with and love) but with barely a passing mention of the man who restored ALL those covenants to the earth! I had a glimmer of hope with the second to last talk, which was all about the Book of Mormon, only to be crushed when Pres. Pace bore testimony of the Book of Mormon, of God the Father, of Jesus the Christ, and of President Nelson, but NO MENTION OF JOSEPH SMITH!
But then! Yes, but then came President Nelson's amazing talk, and I left conference with a soaring heart. Our prophet's ENTIRE TALK was about Joseph Smith and his receiving of ALL the priesthood keys necessary for our salvation. President Nelson also reinforced the statement that has also become taboo among members, which is to declare that this is the ONLY church with God's authority. Pres. Nelson's talk felt just like the kinds of talks we used to hear all the time in the 80s and 90s, when I was growing up.
Best of all, in the leadership training meeting before conference, Pres. Holland gave a training called "Praise to the Man" in which he trained all the general authorities to make certain they remember Joseph Smith when testifying of God the Father and Jesus the Christ. It will take a while for this training to "trickle down" into our sacrament meetings, but I am confident we WILL return to the powerful talks and testimonies of Joseph Smith that I remember from my childhood.

D&C 132:60 "Let no one, therefore, set on my servant Joseph; for I will justify him; for he shall do the sacrifice which I require at his hands for his transgressions, saith the Lord your God."
My journey is tied to the date Joseph and Hyrum Smith were martyred June 27th. I was baptized on that date in 1970 😮and one year later 1971 on that date I received my patriarchal blessing and 5 yrs 1975 after my baptism on that date I was sealed to my wife in the Washington DC Temple. I shall never forget that date of June 27th and the price Joseph Smith Jr. paid to bring forth the restored gospel.

But I love Joseph Smith and his family because I know he is the Prophet of this dispensation and will come back to stand alongside the prophets of the other Scriptures in the pages that he translated and
Receive the keys from the prophets that followed all of him

In class today, we talked about Abinadi. The instructor did a great job. I mentioned that Abinadi was similar to what Joseph Smith went through. It was a very new concept for many if not all in the Gospel Doctrine class. Very good stuff. I have only heard this from the Joseph Smith Foundation.

Joseph Smith’s very first prophecy proves that he was a prophet! A prophet is a man who has two-way communication with God or angels. The Angel Moroni told Joseph Smith that his name would be had for good and evil among all nations. In other words millions of people worldwide will hate Joseph Smith and millions of people worldwide will praise him as a prophet of God. He was only 17 years old when he made this prophecy. It doesn’t matter how much a person may hate him or his teachings. The hatred of the people who oppose him is proof that he was a real prophet of God!

However, I do not sing praise to Joseph Smith, Moses, or Michael.
That is reserved for the way, the truth, and the life, Jesus Christ.

Hannah, when you quoted Margaret Young, I didn’t see it the way you did. We were known in the 19th century as bad people, strange, evil, devilish, etc. I think she just means we will become a church recognized for its goodness; for its generosity; having true priesthood authority, children of God, etc. Having said this, I have not read anything by Sis.Young, and haven’t listened to anything from her either, so don’t know what else she may have said, but in this one quote, I didn’t see it as nefarious.

    • @JosephSmithFoundation
      @JosephSmithFoundation  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

Hannah: Unfortunately, Margaret Young does hold to progressive beliefs-including stating publicly that "We have some awful statements from all of the leaders of the Church. . . . I’ve had to just kind of pinch my nose as I read through the terrible things that have been said by past leaders of the Church. Understanding the damage that they’ve done and the damage that they continue to do." and that just as the Salt Lake Temple foundation had to be completely torn down and replaced when they found issues during the building process, as a Church we need to undergo a similar renovation process with our spiritual/doctrinal/prophetic teaching foundation.

When one blasphemes the prophet Joseph Smith they are blaspheming the Father's great revelator. Which means they are blaspheming against the Holy Ghost. We know that the Savior has warned that all blasphemy can be forgiven, but blaspheming against the Holy Ghost there is no forgiveness - no forgiveness in this world or in the world to come.

The restoration of the constitution cannot happen without the restoration of the ordinances as Joseph revealed them, as the prophet Brigham Young organized them in the temple of God. Without those ordinances as they were originally revealed, the power of godliness is not made manifest as it says in the 84th section of the Doctrine and Covenants. You cannot save this country when you change your ordinances and deny the priesthood and give it to those who God has forbidden it. The redemption of Zion as it is written can only come by this power.
