      I gained a testimony of the gospel young, but rebelled as a teenager, yet have still enjoyed learning about church history over the years, by reading books like the Storm Testament Series and The Porter Rockwell Chronicles, and listening to historians like Tom. I really enjoy church history stories and have a deep respect for those early saints, especially the Prophet Joseph. This info about Or@n Hyde is new to me and really hit home... as I have been inactive most my life, and still have a "disfellowshipped" status concerning my membership after fouling up a temple marriage almost 20 yrs ago now. I try hard to be forgiving of those who persecute me for opposite reasons than Brother Joseph was persecuted obviously, but nevertheless persecuted, for my mistakes. My question is how I can come back, when I have messed up so badly in life. I have really made a mess and have no idea how I will face the Saints when I die. Its something I am truly ashamed of and can't believe has happened. I'm so embarrassed, even though I know I'm a good guy, who is helpful and friendly and kind, but far from having any order to my life now that I've got children from two marriages plus some accidental ones in between. I don't even know what to do anymore its such a disgrace to my family and my heritage. I'm trying to take solace from how the Orson Hyde story turned out I guess... thanks for the great channel keep up the good work.

      There is a away back and would be welcomed back , Jesus Christ wants you back he knows you and your heart , we all have reason for repentance every day so you’re not alone . Don’t look back if it’s your desire to be brethren again and receive the blessings that are waiting for you and the strength in struggle. It’s your salvation if you do choose.

Is a 40 day cycle of things to do to get back right with God and hopefully our families. It isnt easy. But making Christ smile by us returning, and needs to be parimount in our thinking and actions. Come what may with rest.. I'm speaking to myself also. Thanks for being open. May God bless us both Brother. I'm thinking your Ancestors are nudging you. The Prophet Joseph Smith is and was a true Prophet Of our Savior Jesus Christ, he experienced horrific persecution but his love for all are immeasurable and eternal. He Joseph Smith junior reminds me of the father of the prodigal story who forgive his wayward son. Ford comparing himself to pilate and Herod, says like them he will be linked to an imposter. That indicates to me Ford thought Joseph Smith, like Jesus, was an imposter.

    • @nefertariariki4936
      @nefertariariki4936 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@jzwillows first of all, Jesus was/is never an impostor but the “perfect, sinless” son of God. Impostor is someone who deceives;a cheat, fraud, sham, phony, hypocrite, etc. Ford likens himself to Pilate n Herod bc he, as governor, had political power like them, to protect the innocents from the mob but he failed. Their blood is on him. Haunted with guilt at not keeping his promise to protect Joseph, he “feels degraded.” He knows that he’d be dragged down to posterity with an immortal name etched on to the memory of a “miserable impostor.” He, Ford -guilt ridden-betrayed Joseph &clearly confesses that he’s the miserable impostor, (not Jesus nor Joseph). He’s his own judge &jury now he’s dying & lamenting his past sins of omission .

    Thank you so much for a wonderful lesson. I absolutely love church history and was able to participate in a church history tour of the UK a few years back. It was amazing to be able to walk where the early missionaries had such phenomenal successes. Years ago I lived near Winter Quarters and one day ventured across the river and found myself in the Kanesville Tabernacle where I was able to get my hands on a copy of Oliver Cowdery's testimony that he gave after Orson Hyde allowed him to speak at a gathering in the tabernacle. Along with Elder Holland's famous testimony of the Book of Mormon, it is the most powerful testimony I have ever read coming from a leader of the church. Our Father in Heaven loves each of us so completely and always wants what's best for each of us as his individual children. Keeping close to him on a daily assignment shows our Father in Heaven how very much we Love him and want to learn to become more like him. • @TheRealDonLayton
      @TheRealDonLayton 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@magmcsa913 Tithing funds were not used to purchase the mall. The financial strength of the Church is an asset, not a liability.
      Serious question for you. How much money have you donated to help make the world a better place in the last 12 months? How much in the last 10 years?
      The Restored Church of Jesus Christ is in fact preparing for "the rainy days", as you put it. But along the way, they donated 2.5 BILLION dollars to about 200 different countries last year alone. In addition, they built meetinghouses, temples, and other buildings for members to strengthen their faith and as centers to learn how to become more like Jesus Christ. If that's not enough, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints donate billions annually to charity OUTSIDE of the church. They also donate hundreds of thousands of man hours each year to serve others.
      So before you belittle the Church again for being successful, you might want to consider how they use and intend to use that success to bless the lives of people across the world we live in. That's really what it's all about. And I'm grateful to be able to participate in a very small way to that success.

I look forward to the "boys from the mountains rescuing the Constitution" and setting up the Kingdom of God on the Earth, with the flag fluttering unsullied in the breeze. Actually the mob suffered horrific deaths for what they did. The Lord doesn't think very well on that kind of wickedness...and I think the fate of many today will see similar or the same judgements. But I will hold tight to my testimony...I love our Church with all my heart, and look forward to Zion and our Savior coming in Glory.

He'd sent his family ahead after he arrived at the persecution scene in De Witt, Missouri in 1838. It was the time when angry mobs murdered seventeen members of the L.D.S. faith and wound others at Hawn's Mill. Missouri Governor Lillian Boggs had issued an extermination order to exterminate the Saints in Missouri. The Saints in De Witt were surrounded and forced to leave. Charles helped load up belongings for those making an exodus, but stayed behind to help another Canadian convert like himself, then left the town of De Witt. He was on foot and had become lost on the prairie while trying to make his way all alone to Far West to reunite with the Saints, so he was hungry, cold and without a friend upon the prairie. A frightened farmer, afraid himself of the mobs, gave him directions to Far West. His harrowing experiences continued, but he stayed with the Church. This was six years before the assassination of Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum Smith in the jail at Carthage, Illinois. Eventually, Charles Hales pioneered to the territory where the Saints had gathered in the Rocky Mountains. He was buried in the Spanish Fork, Utah cemetery. I found his grave there a few months ago by accident as I was looking at headstones from the Robertson family, other ancestors who had pioneered to the territory of Deseret.

    It’s just incredible that such love and forgiveness even exists for Joseph to run to and embrace Orson Hyde. It’s proof that Joseph Smith was and is a true Prophet.
    However, it’s even more incredible that the love of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ is even greater.

    “One of the most pleasing scenes that can occur on earth, when a sin has been committed by one person against another, is, to forgive that sin; and then according to the sublime and perfect pattern of the Savior, pray to our Father in heaven to forgive him also” ( 6:245). ~ Joseph Smith Jr

    The story about Joseph & Orson Hyde was just awesome! Betrayal by a friend is the hardest thing to forgive. I wish I'd have 1% the power to forgive, Joseph had.

    In hearing you read Gov. Ford's memoirs, I am interpreting differently. It sounds to me as if he was not upset that he acted as Pilate, but that he would be REMEMBERED as Pilate, only he calls Joseph Smith a "miserable imposter." "Etched in the memories of....a miserable imposter." To me it means the memories are of those who followed Joseph or believed Joseph, and Ford did not believe or follow him. I will have to inspect this further...

    Great video. Your reading/interpretation of Thomas Ford’s comments from History of Illinois, regarding his legacy being connected to Joseph Smith’s is too forgiving at best and just wrong at worst. “... miserable imposter” is Ford’s description of Joseph Smith not himself. He’d prefer to be forgotten than “being dragged down to posterity hitched to [Joseph Smith].” He is anything but remorseful in that statement about anything but his reputation and legacy being associated to Joseph’s. His loss.

    Man... as the story was being told, I thought Joseph Smith was gonna grab Orson by the neck and slam him to the ground. I guess Joseph could tell by Orson’s body language that he had repented and therefore found a reason to rejoice in the return of the “prodigal son.” Anyway, thanks for sharing.

    Very interesting...Thank you. About Gov Boggs...Many years ago, I watched a documentary on TV 📺 about Boggs, while he lived in California, he got into a gold mine venture...Long story short...During a return journey, he and his relatives, after exhaustive, "tunnel vision", expensive searches, could NEVER FIND THE MINE AGAIN..."Gov" Boggs didn't have a contented life, and never had any posterity to leave ANY kind of "legacy" to...😐

    I work in the Cardston Temple and one day there was a lady there, (sorry but didn't get her name) she said that she was direct descendant of Boggs. Her story was that when Boggs gave that extermination order he was told by one of the members of the twelve at that time that Boggs' family name would be wiped out (he'd never have a son) and that any daughters born would not live except for one, until the time they join the church. Apparently Boggs had 4 daughters, all died except one, that daughter had 4 daughters and all died except one and the same happened to each living daughter down to this woman. She joined the church and she has daughters and sons, none who have died. Don't know how true this is but it might be worth checking out.

    As The Lords restored Gospel has marched on to nearly every clime, those who fought Joseph are as it were yapping muted dogs relegated to the dust pan of history, So sad they didnt have the light to see who they should of reveared. Very awesome Joseph had the Lords light and insight to fogrive.
