This is just a burner account but I used to follow you on Twitter for a long time. Keep up the good work with your videos, this is much better than the generic large accounts for me, real and nice footage. Looking forward to more to come

Thanks for the encouraging comments! My wife and I will be there in July so I always get to read conflicting narratives about the safety there. I'm from Manila which has its share of big-city crime but if I know how to avoid becoming a victim, I guess I can do it in Rio too.

I'm a native. As I look like exactly like a "gringo" (I'm son of a Portuguese) I know exactly how to act. Mostly you can do whatever you want in the touristic places.. but as for the locals we tend to avoid walking alone after 10:30/11PM.. regarding some parties we usually go by Uber and there's NO problem at all (except Lapa which is a fishy place.. so it's better to go in groups there as there's a lot of opportunist/poor people there - but also some "gringos" -> always in group).. I'll tell you the safest areas (basically neighborhoods in "Zona Sul" (South Zone) which are: Ipanema/Leblon (same beach) / Barra da Tijuca (beach for the wealthy ppl in Rio) / Flamengo beach where I live (avoid that at night but it's cool at day and you can see the Sugar Loaf as background) / Urca neighboorhood (Praia Vermelha beach) - the most safe one as there's a militar base there so there's literally almost zero robbery) / Botafogo (there's tons of pubs and bars there at night although the beach has a nice view it's not bathable) / and finally Copacabana (well, it's safe till 11PM as he said, but you can go to any nightclub by Uber which you'll be 200% safe). Avoid ANY hotels in Centro (central area - as in almost every city of the world it's a little bit dangerous). You can book a hotel in Flamengo or Catete as it's way cheaper than staying in Ipanema or Leblon, and it's relativelly safe if you don't walk on its streets after 11PM. Rio de Janeiro is pretty safe if you take care of your belongings (at day or night) and watch out for any suspicious person following you from behind at night. I'd say to visit some other cities too as Rio is by far the most dangerous. There's tons of safe cities in Brazil.. like Florianópolis (a perfect island).. Balneário Camboriú (our Dubai)

Thank you for your video! It gave me peace of mind considering I should be there in a month and a half and I was terrified since I’m a girl traveling solo. I’ve watched and heard so many terrible stories online, I’ll be careful for sure though

I can tell from experience I have been robbed twice at gun point in Brazil.
the most dangerous times are between 2200 and 00 when there are still people outside but most is closed and many people are gone.
after midnight there is almost nobody and everybody is very alert.so not a favorite time of robbers.
the same goes for neighbourhoods, in favelas you wont get robbed as this is forbidden by the druggangs that rule them. but dont go there unless you are with somebody that lives there.
tourist areas are very safe. lots of police but also what you dont see is that every store and every bar has armed security,. everyone of them and most look like normal dressed guys, not in uniform so they can better protect.
but in the middle class neighbourhoods areas its most dangerous as there is the least security. people there have their own ways, which you as a tourist you dont...

Where was this bar you went to? It's normally quite safe to go out and walk at night in Copacabana, Ipanema and other neighborhoods

You probably mean walking on the promenade, where there are a lot of people and bars. But in the inner streets... man, it's risky. I heard first hand stories of people getting robbed while walking two blocks to go back to the hostel.

If nothing happened to him he has been lucky, please be careful in Rio!!

Europe is more dangerous than Latin America, with pickpockets everywhere. I've never been robbed in Rio, but I was in Paris getting off the metro. not to mention the countless times they tried to scam tourist places. And if you go to USA you spot mentally ill or drug addicted people everywhere. Kind a sad situation. California became a lost zone with people dying from overdose and cars having their windows broken to be stolen. Brazil is paradise compared to those places.

Hi, May I share the most important news you will ever hear in your whole life? God the Father sent His holy Son Jesus Christ(Y'shua Ha' Mashiach) from heaven to earth, to be born of a virgin. He grew up and died on the cross for our sins. He was put into a tomb for 3 days, and then Abba Father raised Jesus to life and He appeared to people and went back to Heaven. We must all sincerely receive Jesus to be a true child of God. It says in John 1:12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." Will you genuinely believe on Christ Jesus and truly receive Him today, before it is too late?
