    Thanks for your video. My wife and I were in Rio a couple of months back and we stayed at Barra de Tijuca for a couple of days, moved to Itacoatiara for a week and then back to Vidigal for 4 days. Loved all of these areas. The taxis were a little nervous coming to pick us up from Vidigal but thankfully, we didn’t have any issues. We are already thinking about returning. Your video helped us to decide where we will possibly stay. Thanks.

    Some coments from a carioca:
    In Rio almost half of the surfers are half people from favelas that exist in all zona sul: leblon, copa, ipanema etc sometimes there are scuffles but Rio is very inclusive so we all get along - I am Brazilian and I love Gringo Cafe!!! lol they have meatball sandwish and in Brazil you can't find this anywere! - lapa/ST is the real thing bro.. poor Brazilians live there, its really dangerous at night even with the backpackers you getting the real thing with a light touristic spice - Botafogo is Brazilian SOHO, cultural, nightlife orientented etc -

    I'm a video editor so I'm working from home in a good plus.
    Where did you look for rentals of apartments like the ones mentioned here. (Just Airbnb?)
    I saw Viva Real but these are unfurnished apartments
    All the best 😀

    • @TheTravelMoneyGuy
      @TheTravelMoneyGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend and use Airbnb and then if you like the place negotiate something with the owner. Yes Airbnb can be the most pricey but it comes with the least amount of headaches. Other pages aren't as up to date and there can be some annoying paperwork. Also I recommend walking building to building and asking the security guard what's available, but those are normally unfurnished

      Cool man! I am the same way. Ok here we go.....Safety is basically use common sense and don't openly display expensive phones or watches in the street. The best area for nightlife is dias Ferreira in Leblon (near boa praça). There is also a boa praça in Ipanema that is new. Lapa is dirty and smells like pee everywhere. And last 2... I should charge for these they are so good. Go to brewteco in Gávea any Friday or Saturday night or Sunday day. And also bosque bar Friday or Saturday night. There are parties in the favelas too check out my mirante do arvrao video. Hope this helps!

    Hey,
    I loved the video very informative in terms of nightlife and various locations to reside. I would like to know do you have any advice about how to find furnished living accommodations in Ipanema and Botafogo. (For ex. like websites).?

    • @TheTravelMoneyGuy
      @TheTravelMoneyGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try uliving Rio. You can also rent an Airbnb and then talk with the owner about arranging something. If you're in Rio, you can also just find a building you like and ask the security guy which units are available for rent. That's all I got. It seems as though Airbnb is the main option for furnished rentals in almost all latin American countries. There are other ways but just takes some more work.

    • @TheTravelMoneyGuy
      @TheTravelMoneyGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      More thoughts...someone needs to create a 3-12 month furnished rentals platform haha. But in Latin America longer term rentals often require a local co signer, so more red tape and hoops to jump through. Working with people directly once in Rio is your best bet outside of Airbnb. Setting something up before arriving in Rio, outside of Airbnb, isn't generally recommended, in my opinion.

    Helpful overiew. Thanks! I've been to Rio before, but it was a long time ago. Am thinking of going back for a month sometime within the next year, and am trying to pick a neighborhood. I was leaning towards Botafogo already, but you're making me consider Barra too. One question - is Barra not easily accessible via public transportation? You mention being "in a car all the time" if you live there. But it looks like the subway goes at least to the eastern edge of Barra. Are buses pretty thin on the ground from there? Or is Uber so cheap down there that you wouldn't even bother trying to figure out the bus system?

    • @TheTravelMoneyGuy
      @TheTravelMoneyGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Right, Uber is so cheap I always Ubered and didn't mess with the metro or buses. Honestly, Barra might be the most livable part of Rio and best value. Botafogo would be a little more Bohemian or hipster than Barra. Barra you will probably have a nice gym and pool in your building Let me know if more questions!

    • @rublaj
      @rublaj 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Barra is a HUGE neighborhood and have only one subway station in the very beginning of it, coming from leblon. So if you're staying in Barra, keep in mind that this is FAR from the rest of RIO (like 45 min car drive) from the other attractions: sugar loaf, christ, ipanema etc. BUT Barra is also its own attraction: it have a great beach, great nightlife, etc...
      I used to live in Barra but moved to ipanema because all my friends and family live in ZONA SUL and in fact no one wants to go to barra :D
