I remember seeing this when it was on the air. I was 7-8 years old and a second -generation Monkees fan. I usually didn't watch American Bandstand, but I happened across this episode. I couldn't believe it---Micky and Davy! I couldn't, though, figure out why Mike and Peter had been replaced by those other two guys.
Davy really covered all the hairstyles over time….the pre Monkees pompadour, Then the 60’s Bowl, the blow dried, with a little hairspray 70’s we see here….then his ultimate late 80’s mullet….he carried that till the early 90’s
American Bandstand was fun show. Every Saturday is watch it and then Soul Train. I’d get a rundown of the latest hits from the pop/dance charts and Soul/Disco/R&B charts. It was great because then you would go out on Saturday night to a club.
This interview was a decade after the debut & cancellation of the Monkees (which Davy says was "a long time ago") & now this same interview is 47 years in the past as of today (2023). Time does indeed fly in "no time" (monkees song reference) at all.
I remember seeing Micky Dolenz perform at the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den in Uncasville , CT. back in the Winter 2005. I even mention about the time my mother saw the Monkees perform in NYC back in '67 and he mentions Forest Hills while singing autographs. Man, he is the most attractive of the Monkees I've seen since day one (Sorry, Davy.).
Boy, this brings back a lot of memories. Of course, this became the roaming group because two jerks were too good for "the Monkees". Sadly, both were talented musicians. But I wasn't particularly fond of their own songs. Mike hated "bubble gum" music...and i loved it. And I f'in' bought the stuff-obviously they didn't. I despise ungrateful musicians/entertainers. Once they feel it's all about them...and not their audience/s, it's time for them to die and disappear forever! Mickey was always my favorite. And Bobby Hart was something else, in his own right! The biggest change since they were kids? When Mickey roamed the Valley, there were still tons of open spaces and carnivals and fairs. Today, I doubt you could find a single empty lot-unless an existing building was removed and replaced by something even bigger.
