    Probably the best and comprehensive interview they gave in the 60's. Too bad they never recorded that double album they are talking about here.

      the monkees presents wouldve been the double if peter had stayed with the group. the monkees being a collective where each had their own sound was kinda where those last few albums were at- wouldve loved to have seen it in full effect, the boys never really reached their full potential after the split

      Just wanted you all to know that the reason that The Monkees Present was not a double album was that their record label, Colgems , decided on that. Due to, they felt, was a decline in the bands popularity. Therefore, they weren't going to spend money on a proposed double album, that they felt wouldn't sell. It wasn't because Peter had left the group, as previously mentioned. Just wanted to let this fact be known and set the record straight. 😊. 9/29/23.

      ever "off" in interviews, maybe antsy and impatient. As he got older, he gave some wonderful solo interviews. You can find them on TH-cam. Hy Lit was a popular radio DJ in Philadelphia from the 1950s until 2005. He was an institution here, an icon, who had a nationally syndicated TV show called The Hy Lit Show, originating at WKBS, Channel 48, in Philadelphia in the 1960s. It aired in about 30 stations nationwide according to the wikipedia entry. Lit went from AM radio in the 50s, 60s and 70s, to FM "underground" progressive radio, and finally to "oldies" in the latter part of his career.

    I've been playing music (guitar, bass, vocals) professionally and semi-professionally for about 25 years. Tambourine is actually difficult to play, the rhythm of it takes a mastering of technique. Davy played guitar, was a dancer, and could act. He would co-write songs, some of which were good. Mike Nesmith would say he and the others were about on a par with each other....they were all great talents.

      Hard-core Monkees Fans of the T.V. Show resented The Movie for the fact that the group were trying to destroy their t.v. image, and The Hippy movement that the Monkees wanted to appeal to immediately rejected the movie due to the fact that they view the Monkees as for Teenyboppers only. So as brilliant as the movie is especially for the Monkees it locked them into a no win situation at the time it came out.

    • @magneto7930
      @magneto7930 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidbreen6335 actually, I think the Monkees seemed rather silly adapting to that hippie phase. It was too much of a contradiction to their zany image, although they did start to inject some seriousness into the last 2 or 3 minutes of their television shows. I find that more interesting now as an adult than I did as a kid. But the movie itself was creative, in my opinion. It was a mixture of Help and Magical Mystery Tour.

      It was probably done, but because of the drugs they were on really sucked. You also gotta keep in mind that they were really not musicians. Even Mike and Peter, they were musicians, but not at the caliber of say Hendrix....they played. So I imagine the idea of each having a side might have been made but was not quality enough to ever get released.

      Actually they did. By second season they were so well known that they could get away with looking more individual. This was great; I personally loved Micky's natural hair, Davy's Nehru shirts, Peter's beads and beards, and Mike's suits, crazy ties and fabulous, more elaborate sideburns. They used to joke that they turned into "three hippies and a well-dressed Texan " 😊
