- Jacobson's Progressive Muscle Relaxation devised originally by Edmund Jacobson utilises progressive muscle relaxation by first tensing and then releasing muscle groups accompanied by a focus on breathing deeply in between the tensing-release cycle.
It helps by reducing sympathetic overactivity and can slow heart rate and reduce Blood Pressure. Thus helping in Anxiety, Panic attacks, Insomnia etc.
repetition is crucial to the relaxation response.The sense of "Remembered Wellness" associated with this exercise is what Benson says is akin to memories of nurturance and Maternal attachment. This PMR( progressive Muscle Relaxation ) has a strong record of Clinical efficacy. It is recommended that patients undergo LIVE Sessions for the first 4-5 sessions and then practice it at home for 3-4 weeks . Later the duration can be shortened by tensing and releasing only 4-5 Muscle groups instead of all muscle individually. The Deep Breathing in between is crucial.

Hiii good evening ma'am I am narender from Shimla Himachal Pradesh. I have a anxiety of breathing. Can you tell me how can I do this relaxation exercise it is a so important to me. my doctor is suggested to me for this relaxation exercise.
Yes try it regularly for 3-4 weeks. Then you can shorten it by just tightening 3-4 muscle groups together eg arms, shoulders and hands together, neck and face together, chest and abdomen together and legs at one time.
My treatment is underway from AIIMS for symptomatic constipation, anxiety, Ear ej...
Doctors apart from medicine has suggested relaxation exercise. Is this exercise helpful. I am taking medicine from 3 months but not doing exercises. Now I am doing from two days, i feel heavy weight in my body at end. What it indicats.
