And Masters of Teras Kasi was the first Playstation game I had. It wasn't great, but at the time I was too enamored with having a Playstation to notice how bad it was.
Even though I probably wouldn't replay it nowadays I will always have a soft spot for Rebel Assault 2, was the first Star Wars game I played when I first got my PS1 for Christmas. Jedi Power battles was the only Star Wars game I rage quit and never got around to finishing, could never get past Coruscant.
Suggestions: Mortal Kombat series, Street fighter series, Cool Boarders series, Looney Toones series - that would be my first pick! Moto Racer series, Twisted Metal series. So many great series' on the PS1!
I love this video! Thank you so much for having me be a part of it! Even if I had to play Jedi Power Battles! Also, Dark Forces PS1 has a special place in my heart. I was a huge Star Wars nerd in the '90s, but didn't have a PC proper - Shadows of the Empire N64 and Dark Forces PS1 were how I got my late '90s Star Wars video game fix. The choppiness in Dark Forces isn't an issue - it's a feature! It allows you more time to aim! Right? Right?! (I know I'm deluding myself, but let me have this...) Also also, seeing this video got me thinking... I swear there was talk of a PS1 port of the N64 game Battle for Naboo (essentially the Ep I Rogue Squadron game) that was cancelled in development, but I cannot find any info on it on the internet as of now. Does anyone else remember this? Am I just imagining it? Lastly, if people cannot get enough of Sean talking about The Phantom menace, here's the link to the other video where he does so! :-D th-cam.com/video/zxkn0JIqTOg/w-d-xo.html
Just realised I should added the link to thst video too haha. I'll get that into the discription :) I never knew of any ports of Naboo to PS1 but the PlayStation really could have benefited from at least one of the flight games. The N64 games are still a ton of fun.
@@SeanSeanson You know what? I think I was thinking of Episode I Racer, which was in the process of being ported to the PS1, but was cancelled - I'm assuming because the PS2 was coming out/had already come out. That, I was able to find info on, so I was likely just confusing the two.
Might be worth noting that, nowadays, there is a reverse-engineered recreation of Dark Forces for modern computers called The Force Engine. It is by far the best way to play the game today, comparable with Doom, Duke Nukem 3D or Marathon source ports.
2:13 "You've already given me your view, and at the end of the day that's all that really matters." I was under the assumption that YT's algorithm looks for total time spent watching a video, not how many views a video has. I must be wrong?
Oh no you're correct, in the grand scheme of things a view is almost meaingless to the algorithm. But we can't let that get in way of some mild comedy can we? :)
I freaking preordered phantom menace for PS1 as an overenthusiastic 13yo with a limited budget, I was determined to like and beat that thing. The most espa level was easily the best part, massive environment with heaps of exploration and multiple options to complete the objectives. Escorting the Queen that constantly walked right into the line of fire nearly broke me. Also wasn't there a ps1 port of episode 1 racer?
The funny thing about mentioning CD quality music and Star Wars Demolition in the same video is that Demolition for the PS1 was a game you could put into a CD player to listen to the music
So, in regards to lightsaber colors: red being exclusive to Sith wasn't actually fully established until Attack of the Clones came out, and similarly Jedi saber colors weren't constrained to mostly blue and green until then either. Before then, Phantom Menace tie-in media would give Jedi all kinds of saber colors, red and yellow and orange and so on. This got clamped down on by Lucas, along with similar retcons in regard to Jedi romance; up until AotC, you had all kinds of stories about Jedis falling in love and having outright dynasties, which then all had to be explained away after the "no attachments" rule was firmly established by Lucas. There, enjoy your nerdass lore facts for the day.
While it wasn't the first saber she used, the first one Leia owned in Legends was a red bladed saber that Luke made for her while she was the Chief of State of the New Republic. So we had a Skywalker with a red lightsaber running the galaxy and that was a good thing despite how that sounds without context
Honestly I've had far too little experience with SW games in general, to the point that the only ones I've touched were a demo of Star Wars: Tekken (Seriously calling it Teras Kasai is like calling a Star Wars-esque movie Space Fight: The Amenaza Fantasma) and a bit of my young cousin's Power Battles years ago. That said, seeing that Demolition footage kinda takes me back since I recognized some of the reused assets from Vigilante 8.
I still have all my old magazine from years back. It's great seeing how the reviews and opinion pieces hold up. Back in the day I'd just try rent anything with a 9 or above 😅
Masters of Teras Kasi holds such a weird and special place in my heart cause it was my first time playing and seeing a ps1 game, I dont really remember anything about playing it except that I was with my uncle in my grandmothers house, but the moment that I remember most is actually seeing the disc and just thinking "holy shit its like purple and black thats so cool"

Oh Id love to but even doing just western horror games would be a MASSIVE task! I'll put it in the idea folder for now anyway, if I ever end up with a huge amount of free time it's something I could work towards. :)
You know, I don't remember Dark Forces on PS1 looking that bad but I haven't played that version since around the time it was released. I remember really wanting to play Dark Forces at the time, but my family's PC couldn't run it so the PS1 version was my only option. Over the course of a weekend where I rented the game, I finished the whole thing and still have a fond memory of the experience to this day. Dark Forces is one of my favorite Star Wars games and that's primarily due to the PS1 version. Of course I'd play the PC version now but I'm glad for this console port.
Rebel Assault II was my first PSX game when i got a playstation on my 13th birthday. I had played it on Mac at a friend's house and remember finding it odd that the kiss scene between the two protagonists was removed in the PSX verison entirely. The game just cuts to credits after you shake hands with the general or whoever.
Never heard of your channel before and it started playing after watching a video about a Disney ps1 game, and i think that's why your "every ps1 disney game ranked" came on and was just gonna pick another video until 30-50 seconds went by i heard the way you say "tree" (3) and im like yup im gonna sit here for two houra and listen to this man with this deadly accent review some of my childhood 😅 youre the man sean. my dad was named shaun too! But as u can see he spelled it the superior way. Unfortunately he passed away in 2020 just before pandemic started he got ran over .. gaming and gaming videos sure helped alot with that hurt 🤕
Sorry to hear about your Dad, I'm sure he was a great man. I lost a parent a while back too, amazing how games can help ease the pain. Appreciate you watching!
I absolutely love Episode 1 and I really liked the PS1 game despite its many flaws and poor graphics even for those times. But the best game in the SW universe on PS1 for me was Jedi Power Battles 🖖😉
Thanks for watching. However, I'd like to clarify that I said a few new 3D models were added that were exclusive to the PS1 version, which is true. I never said the PC version lacked 3D models and I'm not sure were you got that implication from.
Only If the PS1 Phantom menace game have a dash of Jedi power battles combat and rpg upgrade system, able to gain and do more fancy moves and more force powers, increase stats.
Why are you comparing the 3d fighting game with Street Fighter and MK, probably more apt to compare it to Tekken or Soul Blade or Virtua Fighter. Also seeing Obi-wan getting torn apart in the ventilation shaft in the Episode 1 PS1 game will always be one of the funniest but also most shocking moment in my childhood.
Its special moves and inputs are more akin to those seen in 2D fighters vs. those seen in 3D fighters of its time, despite it being in 3D. Terras Kasi feels nothing like VF or Tekken in motion.
While I like the video overall, I really can’t get behind the idea of Power Battles being “better” than TPM. It’s also worth noting the PC port of TPM has several alternate camera angles and a rebalanced lightsaber available via console commands. The game was rushed to market faster than they wanted - it even had finished multiplayer maps that were sadly never used. The camera was forced to top down by Lucas Arts, who inexplicably thought they couldn’t release two games with the same camera angle at one time - what with Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II releasing around the same time. With the codes applied, the PC version demonstrates that it was more publisher meddling than anything that caused the majority of the issues for the dev team. By contrast, the only nice thing I can say about Power Battles is that the GameBoy adaptation plays a bit better and ironically has less janky controls. Not much, but at least it’s something. Also, *puts on Star Wars nerd glasses* Tear-azz Kazz-EE. Plo KOON Mace Windu was always supposed to have a blue saber. It was Samuel L. Jackson who insisted on it being purple later on. Red sabers weren’t actually exclusive to Sith until the canon reset by Disney. Several Jedi did wield red sabers, even though the Sith eventually made this more taboo. It’s because crystals used to be more than just Kyber, but a whole gamut of crystal types with different effects. One of the most famous being a dark red-orange one that ironically would disengage and refuse to light if you fell to the Darkside. *Puts SW nerd glasses away* Solid video overall, but figured worth commenting.
I'm gonna piggyback on Dive Loop's comment and say a list of every game made by 3DO for the PS1. That's at least going to be a mostly terrible list. I remember beating Darth Vader as the Stormtrooper in Masters of Tera Something and looked it up to find out that all it got him was a promotion =/
Yes, almost definately. Only thing holding me back is the amount of free time I have, but if the channel keeps growing and I can look at investing into it more seriously, I'd love to cover more consoles.
For playing the DOS version of Dark Forces, get a version of DOSBox with save states (Daum SVN is one) and it's like having quicksave and quickload. Just remember that loading a save state will reset EVERYTHING, not just your level progress. Also get GlovePIE and you can use the mouse for looking up and down. It's not quite full mouselook, but it's not too bad once you get used to it. Finally, get OverlayXHair to put a crosshair in the center of the screen. Set DOSBox to use the Desktop resolution, or the res change will wipe out the crosshair.
honestly, the phantom menace is my fav star wars game ever. is it better than Kotor? not at all. Kotor is the best in the franchise, and Kotor 2 might be better than Kotor 1 depending on one's preferences and the impact its narrative had on you. are there better games in the series than phantom menace? yes! but phantom menace is endearing, has crazy game design and interactive mechanics that virtually no console game had on offer in the 5th gen, and that hold up remarkably better to modern standards than most of the 5th gen's console titles do, and is really a good game that nearly anyone can enjoy so long as one goes in with a willingness to learn how to play it
A coverage of PS1 Nickelodeon games is regretful entertainment waiting to happen, lol. To my knowledge, only two of them are of a solid quality; that being the two Rugrats games by N-Space. And speaking of Rugrats, the Paris game, especially on Very Hard Mode, is one of the handle of games I've played that put me in a mentally unhealthy state. How does a video game aimed at toddlers manage to be both overly bare bones and boring, and also rage-quitting levels of frustrating? Such a poorly designed cash-in to an otherwise really good film that's pretty much the apex of the program.
I've fond memories of the first Rugrats game, every Nickleodeon game beyond that would be brand new to me. So if it ever does happen it'll be an interesting journey im sure :)
@@SeanSeanson Ah, you haven't played Rugrats: Studio Tour yet. It's basically more of Search for Reptar, but with extra gameplay variety, more polished presentation, superior framerate, and has Susie as part of the playable roster in the main game. A quality children's game, even though it doesn't hold my attention for long.

More accurately it translates to Steel Hand. Teräs=Steel, Käsi=Hand.

Have to keep a lookout for demolition! Man a loony toon's ps1 list of games would be incredible!
@@SeanSeanson thanks dude appreciate it🙏🙏🙏 you're the man!
Some Factor 5 love well deserved ^^
I absolutely love Episode 1 and I really liked the PS1 game despite its many flaws and poor graphics even for those times. But the best game in the SW universe on PS1 for me was Jedi Power Battles 🖖😉
Dark Forces had 3D models in the PC version. Don't know why you thought it didn't. Great video though.
Thanks for watching.
However, I'd like to clarify that I said a few new 3D models were added that were exclusive to the PS1 version, which is true. I never said the PC version lacked 3D models and I'm not sure were you got that implication from.
Love this series. Best Irish PS1 man out there.
ay thank you! :)
Loved Dark Forces and Episode I as a kid
That awkward moment when you come for the PS1 content, but subscribe because you see a Knocked Loose shirt lmao
That shirts gotten me at least 10 subscribers. The Oldham boys are putting in the work
Man, Jedi power battles AND demolition ❤🎉
Only If the PS1 Phantom menace game have a dash of
Jedi power battles combat and rpg upgrade system,
able to gain and do more fancy moves and more force powers, increase stats.
Would have liked to see your take on Jedi Power Battles.
I'll get it into a video someday :)
@@SeanSeansonOoh I see, I guess I missed that part in your explanation.
My first PC my parents got me came with Dark Forces and shareware DooM! Those were the days! Also Dark Forces>>>Dark Forces 2
Also, *puts on Star Wars nerd glasses*
Tear-azz Kazz-EE.
Plo KOON
Mace Windu was always supposed to have a blue saber.
*Puts SW nerd glasses away*
Solid video overall, but figured worth commenting.
My god a proper star wars nerd comment, it's been a while!
Appreciate your perspective all the same, thanks for watching!
Demolition looks fun ngl
I'm gonna piggyback on Dive Loop's comment and say a list of every game made by 3DO for the PS1. That's at least going to be a mostly terrible list.
I remember beating Darth Vader as the Stormtrooper in Masters of Tera Something and looked it up to find out that all it got him was a promotion =/
The source engine port of dark forces is superb as a way to play it if you don't want to buy night dives version
Sean: no really seriously guys it’s not that exciting
Beings from the 4th dimension: *ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT?*
"Turd person", "Turd Party" XD I love this accent...
Unintentional comedy 24/7
Would you ever do other consoles /systems?
So when is the long review coming for random ps2 polar bear music career? That game looks like the real highlight here lol.
During the 8 hour review of every Polar Bear game.
He'll get his time to shine.
for de algorithm gods
Save abusing? Looks like The Phantom Menace isn't for me. The only game I've played that had this is Tomb Raider 2, and I disliked it there.
Oh hi mr Wars!
AND YOURE WEARING A KNOCKED LOOSE SHIRT COULD IT GET BETTER
Aye knocked loose
honestly, the phantom menace is my fav star wars game ever. is it better than Kotor? not at all. Kotor is the best in the franchise, and Kotor 2 might be better than Kotor 1 depending on one's preferences and the impact its narrative had on you. are there better games in the series than phantom menace? yes! but phantom menace is endearing, has crazy game design and interactive mechanics that virtually no console game had on offer in the 5th gen, and that hold up remarkably better to modern standards than most of the 5th gen's console titles do, and is really a good game that nearly anyone can enjoy so long as one goes in with a willingness to learn how to play it
1:01:53 they predicted Disney acquisition...
please release a Looney Toons PSX video❤
Man, I was such a big Star Wars fan I've played all of these games in some way.
Keyword *was*...
@@SeanSeanson
Ah, you haven't played Rugrats: Studio Tour yet. It's basically more of Search for Reptar, but with extra gameplay variety, more polished presentation, superior framerate, and has Susie as part of the playable roster in the main game. A quality children's game, even though it doesn't hold my attention for long.
SoulCalibur IV is honestly still the best Star Wars fighting game.
