- Aug. 2, 1996: just a gutty performance by the battle-worn Lithuanian legends Sabonis and Marčiulionis, who dragged their country to the bronze over a deeper Australian team.
Interestingly enough, the Aussies played its best ball in the first half when forcing Sabonis out onto the floor and making him defend ball-screens. It hardly happened in the second half; he was able to rest on defense and conserve energy for the offensive end, where he was unguardable on the block.

I used to love watching Arvydas play when I was growing up. He was an AMAZING center. Truly unique!!!

Yugoslavia was always a powerhouse in international Basketball arguably the best outside of United States, but it was always understood there as Sabonis was the best European player at that time by a country mile.
Well Drazen was amazing. Sabonis couldn't play full power since like 20-21 years old due to SSSR overplaying him without a rest and playing him even while injured. I saw interview on some NBA guys talking about Yugoslavia with Drazen and all other starts which was the best national team in Europe and how Sabonis playing against them shine the most cause of his IQ and insane skill set :)

@@dumbdumber7203 no he wasn't and I am Croatian, Petrovic was an amazing scorer but we saw what he could do in Jersey, Sabonis would have been a top 5-10 player in NBA if he was allowed, he was killing David Robinson and was clearly better player.
@@deni8814 Sabonis never killed David Robinson. Petrovic and Sabonis are equal on my opinion. Both would have been top 10 players in the NBA.

Сабонис конечно = пол команды. Кстати если бы СССР не развалился, то на Олимпиаде 1992 года, могли бы защитить титул олимпийских чемпионов.
Конечно, не могли бы, к сожалению. Но то, что СССР и Югославия оказали бы более достойное сопротивление Дрим Тим - это точно. Хотя в итоге -20 было бы обеспечено.
