      I disagree a bit. Wing chun is definately not about running. It’s not jujitsu etc that has arm locks etc. Wing chun is simultaneous rapid attack and defense intended to cause maximum damage in minimum time.
      That’s the way it enables you to get away.

    Wing Chun (literally means beautiful spring time) was named after a girl who learned it from a female nun/monk. The style was meant for women for self defense and had to be simple so that women can learn it in short order. The style is perfect if you want fight in a small bathroom or elevator, but sucks if you fight in an open area. That is where Bruce Lee created his "ideology" (not style) of Jeet Kun Do. Jeet Kun Do's foundation is Wing Chun, but he added different elements of other martial arts and fighting techniques that worked for him. Sound familiar? Today it is called Mixed Martial Arts.

      There is a version named (I think) Yin Chun, or something like that. Santos Barbalace learned it from 2 Chinese women he met in Central Park. Yim Wing Chun learned from her father, and a man named Leung wanted to learn, but old Yim refused, pretending he didn't know any gungfu. Leung saw that Yim had no sons, but only a daughter, Yim Wing Chun, so he married her, knowing the old master would have taught his only child. Gungfu is family property in Chinese culture. Yip Man was lucky to be taught, as it was traditionally the Leung family style. Dr. Henry Leung brought it here from China, but he didn't learn from any family member, but an old monk, who was likely related.

      Paul P, Where did you get the misinformation that Wing Chun is at a disadvantage in an open area. That is as ridiculous as saying MMA is great in a ring setting but out in the street its useless. Wing Chun is just as effective at long range as it is for mid range and close range. That is why Wing Chun trains at all 3 levels. As far as my idol Bruce Lee and his Jeet Kune Do is concerned, he had to use mixed martial arts methodology because he only learned a very small amount of Wing Chun. He studied it for less then 2 years. Thats total novice level of training even for his advanced natural talents. If he had the ability to learn and discover all Wing Chun has to offer and really delved deep into the art, he would have realized that Wing Chun contains everything one needs for fighting and self defense. Sure things like BJJ are awesome and could help round out any martial artist for ground fighting, but Wing Chun is a full complete system in its own right.

    Master Lee Chun Pong was not Ip Man's best student. Far from the truth. That honor goes to Master Wong Shun Leung (WSL). Master WSL fought in 60 fights and was undefeated. No other Ip Man's student can say such things. WSL defeated every master and student in Hong Kong before bested by Ip Man and became his greatest student. WSL combined his Chinese boxing and Wing Chun. Further, WSL taught Bruce Lee, Ip Man's most famous student before he cut short his training for Hollywood. The secret to generating power in Wing Chun is not the movements or torque but .... that's a different story. If you can figure out Bruce Lee's 2 inch punch then you figured out Wing Chun's power. Again, its not the hand movements.

    Good understanding of Wing Chun but according to Chu Shong Tin(Ip Mans best student) we don’t use muscular tension in the wu me I/ng mui line of Wing Chun. Using no force is there for a reason, this helps us to find how to use essentially move the limbs and body mass around while it’s free of tension, allowing for massive generation of force by the practitioner. This is the power source Ng Mui and later Yim Wing Chun used to overcome muscularly stronger men. The men were stronger in a muscle vs muscle fight, but against this force the two women were able to crush through men’s power and resistance like butter.

    • @inspiringothers7197
      @inspiringothers7197 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Amna S Then you are yet to be learning the correct type of wing chun which is mainly designed around teaching you how to use the same force an animal uses. There's a reason they're 10s of times stronger than us, and it's got nothing to do with muscles I can assure you that much. The reason Bruce trained his muscles so much, was because he was unable to learn Wing Chun properly in the time he was living in Hong Kong, and he saw the force being exerted by my Sigung Chu Shong Tin, Ip Man, etc. Due to him not being able to learn this aspect in time, he resorted to training his muscles to the extent he did, so he could still generate a lot of force, which Wing Chun required in order to work properly. He's the best muscular expression of wing chun I've ever seen.

I'm a savant, so I have picked it up extremely quickly, same as CST did. Ip man stated himself that CST had surpassed him in both skill and force early on in his training, he went on to get a lot better in his many years of training and teaching. We can all believe what we want at the end of the day, but logically are beliefs are drawn from our own experiences and skills, so make of that what you will. Yip Chun did not learn until after his father had finished doing the real teaching, so Yip Man's students taught Yip Chun and his brother Yip Jing. There is variation in the forms, simply the number of repetitions and the exact combination of techniques, especially in the2nd form, Chum Kiu ("bridge seeking"). Foshan is the home of Wing Chun, and where Yip Man came from. My friends are from Foshan, and they proudly display a picture of the building where Yip Man got started, before he moved to Hong Kong. There are 4 forms in basic Wing Chun, and (reportedly) 4 forms also in the more advanced part, so-called Dai Lim Tao. I've never met anyone who knows this, so please feel free to comment. I may have seen a Chinese book, many years ago, but I am no longer sure.

    Actually from Wing Chun I realised that fighting is not really physical. It is more of a mental state of being.
    Wing Tsun actually opened up the use of the left side of my body - i believe it therefore also opened up my brain.
    Wing Tsun is the the snake mixed with the crane so it’s primarily about speed and directness.
    Speed of movement can lead to speed of thinking which also leads to speed of learning and perception. Big decisions made within microseconds with uttermost efficiency and effectiveness.
    In business and everyday life - I find this mental freedom both liberating and empowering.
    Where others just get overwhelmed and fail, I find that I can easily find the issues and make adjustments.

      It is the essence of Chinese culture or Chinese martial arts, very often there is a philosophy or story behind it or something hidden within. I like to think this all started from the root of Chinese culture in iching, yin yang and Bagua. The simplest way to look at it is. If u don’t have the yang and yang considered then It ain’t even considered a well thought out design. If u only care about the physical or what u can see and not the mind what u can’t see then u are not a complete system.

    • @m77ast
      @m77ast 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JC.72 I actually disagree a bit.
      Yin and yang can be present in the movement and in the philosophy without actually being verbally expressed.
      For example the yin defence and the yang - attack are expressed at the same time which makes wing Tsun extremely leathal and deadly.
      However my teacher did not say you are now doing yin or you are now going yang. All he said was do a Tan Da.
      However when i started Penchak Silat and the guru started teaching me Tenaga Dallam. I just stopped. Was very scary

      It can also be seen as ying yang elements.
      However true ying and yang is energy movement - it’s about being able to move life energy. Inside the human body is a soul. That soul is made of life matter which functions at a God level.
      Genesis chapter 1 - let us make man in our image.
      Another verse - and the breath of life came out of God and into the man. The man then became a living soul.
      This life force is in balance using hard flow - known as red and soft yin flow - known as blue.
      In summary this understanding can be applied in motion but the real energy is exactly that - energy.

      Bong Sau - Wing Hand or Wing Arm.
      Chi Sau - Sticking Hands.
      Fook Sau - Subduing Hand.
      Gang Sau - Cultivating Hand, Splitting Hand, etc.
      Gaun Sau - Splitting Hand.

      There are other great Southern systems, but they all take quite awhile to learn, like she explained. Yi Chuan is the simplest, but the hardest to learn. It has no forms, really no technique either. It's all internal power. Fong Ha and Lao Sheng brought it here, but there's a third master in California now. If you really are interested, I will inquire about him.

    Unfortunately, MMA exposed the weaknesses of Wing Chun as a realistic fighting art. As an overall martial art, it is all right with a rich spiritual aspect, but too limited by linear movements based upon the centerline imo.

    • @1girl4you1000times
      @1girl4you1000times 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are unfortunately wrong. The weakness you say is the strength. However. - That is the real weakness: Wing Chun has a lot of lineages and many of them are systematically inefficient (i.e. by looking for spiritual aspects, which are not inside - by design) and further the people might not either train hard enough or train wrong.

    • @jayvee4321
      @jayvee4321 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Except the argument of MMA is from the idea that Wing Chun loses in MMA. What they don't consider is how Wing Chun is developed as an easy way to defend yourself in the fist, it is not fit for combative sport. Not everyone spends years learning Mixed Martial Arts like the pros in UFC, and I can bet you someone who is in their right mind and trained a decade for MMA would mess you up in the street.
