Amazing memories here. What youtube does not convey is how loud and driving this was. Jerry was just punching those notes hard and loud. For those who did not get a chance to hear them live in the "smaller" venues (Oak Aud was fairly big for this period in the Bay Area) the sound was just crazy good. I had gone on a run of a dozen or so dead shows straight and then went to a Parliament Funk show ...super excited to see George Clinton. I actually walked out after three songs the sound was so garbage in comparison.
ah the early 80s Dead…this is a great New Years Show and although a very good CR&S here, it actually features the incomparable Etta James for a few tunes…one of the first New Years shows I got on tape and wore it out…special mention to Phil who just got his 6 string bass a few days earlier
Phil's bass is out of control here 🤯🙏

To the 82 gods - please send video of 8/3/82. i beg of thee.
Starlight Theatre, I love 8/3 has a great Cumberland and a He’s Gone out of Space, the Stella Blue is sublime as well
@@naturalfinish And THEE Shake.
My favorite "Peggy-O" ever
I like this sort of slower version
Phil walks it better slow
Sweet version of a sweet, sweet song! IMO, '82 is a much overlooked year.
The Sept MSG show is fantastic from 1982 where they open with Playing in the band.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Smoke too much Jerry! Got the Husky Voice today.
still better than 83 > 85 when he sounded like Kermit.
This version is a beat slower.
Phil
Awesome. Like that fat, slow tempo.
