The person I love the most...loved this song as much as I do. We were together many years, 2 beautiful boys, wish it could have been longer....Miss you Mike , I will keep spinning the music
Thank you George for this nice little story, it warms my heart and gives me hope. Obviously I did not know your Mike, but if you think it might feel nice for you to tell a bit more, I would love to hear it... feel free to say hi sometime- mwatershoes@gmail.com
@@dalecovey4728made me cry, too. I think about all the Deadheads in the great beyond and wonder, do we get to know Jerry? Is Jerry still Jerry? ❤ NFA, for real.
It took me 62 years, with a ton of loss, to slow down long enough, to really see and absorb and love The Dead. A reconnection with an old high school flame got me listening, and I'm truly grateful.
What a good kid that put thought into it before sending while I'm just reading this. I hope all is well. And you and him are together happy healthy. Have a good day
Annie laid her head down in the roses She had ribbons, ribbons, ribbons in her long brown hair I don't know, maybe it was the roses All I know, I could not leave her there I don't know, it must have been the roses The roses or the ribbons in her long brown hair I don't know, maybe it was the roses All I know, I could not leave her there Ten years the waves rolled the ships home from the sea Thinking well how it may blow in all good company If I tell another what your own lips told to me Let me lay 'neath the roses and my eyes no longer see One pane of glass in the window No one is complaining, though, come in and shut the door Faded is the crimson from the ribbons that she wore And it's strange how no one comes round any more
This was released on a double album “for the faithful”, I had it on vinyl. My favorite Dead. Recorded over about a week or so at Radio City Music Hall. Later they changed the name to “Reckoning” At least that is my experience. So much great acoustic work on this collection. My favorite versions of “ripple” & “China doll”
It must be the most touching thing I've ever heard. Makes me think of my David, musician's musician who introduced me to the Grateful Dead. RIP, sweetheart.
I never got to see them live, alas, but it seems common wisdom that the Dead were still firing on all cylinders on the tours from 77-1982 or so. After that, it might have gotten dicey, not sure.
I was in the front row in PHOENIX AZ. 118 in the shade. No shade . No breeze. Only perspiration from the drummer for hydration. They took no breaks. 5 hours of a day I'll never ever forget. It was about 1981 give or take. Beautiful memories
I spent the best years of my younger life in Humboldt County, northern California. At some point not longer after I left, I realized I would never rekindle those years. The lines starting with "One pane of glass in the window. No one is complaining though come in and shut the door....and no one comes around anymore" capture that more than any song I've ever heard. This version is one of the sweetest and cherished.
She's a narcissist that has poisoned your mind. Break free. How can you say that you are not worthy? You know how? Because that's how she made you feel, like you never measured up. This is a tactic they use to manipulate your mind and make you feel " not worthy".
A copy of this version was on TH-cam for about 11 years as well as in my favorites, up until it suddenly was deleted one day recently. So grateful to see someone put it back on! It’s strange how no one comes around anymore
I told my Deadshow story on the original video that vanished so I will share again. I had camped out at Turtles to get my tickets in 93 in Atlanta at the Omni. I was looking for a couple hits of acid to enjoy the show. I ended up 15ft from the stage. Earlier, I was approached by a girl that said " Sheets and shrooms". I told her I only wanted a couple hits and she said she couldn't break a sheet. I was very disappointed and walked off. Then, as I was walking through the lot, an old deadhead was standing there looking like an old tree. He looks right at me and says " free doses". I walk over and he gives me 3 hits of acid, which I immediately take. Then, I see the girl from earlier and she had apparently not forgot me and took mercy and just gave me 3 hits. I was tripping so hard by the start of the show. I yelled out " Hey Jerry"!! And he looked at me, nodded and winked. It was so awesome. However, i was tripping so hard that I had to leave and go up into the upper stands. It was just too much. As I reached the upper levels there were thousands of people tripping their balls off. People laying on the ground in various states of hysteria and yelling things out like " SKELETONS"!! I walked out into the stadium and looked down at the stage at this huge mass of people and balloons. I saw these color pulses coming off of the band's instruments, hitting the ceiling and bouncing back down onto the crowd. It was one of the best times of my life. So much more happened.
One of my fave Dead tunes of all time. When I first started taking guitar lessons in 1978 or so, all of 10 years old, I made sure I went and bought the huge GD songbook (the one with the black and blue cover or whatever it was). I learned tons just from trying (badly) to play some of those songs, and this one had the easiest chords, overall! I really credit that songbook and the Dead for helping me start learning guitar, of course my teachers as well. Later I had Pink Floyd songbooks etc., which I collected anyway.
The long thin dark arms of my past are trying to reach out and drag me back. Thanks to NA and god of my understanding Jesus Christ I am firmly rooted in the here and now. Sandman
Thank you all for never forgetting. Tonight, when my wife is jumping my ass and my daughter is plucking my last nerve, I come here for peace. Hope to see you soon Jerr.
I was there. And wish I could just jump into this screen and be back again
I wish I'd been there. I had just moved out of the area, and I was pretty broke in those days - but I should have just made the trip.

Welcome aboard and feel the love
At least you’re ‘grateful’ before you’re dead.
I didn't know how much I'd love THE DEAD Music until I saw their concert in the late 80s.
I'm in the hospital very sick and my baby boy sent this to me. I love him so much
I hope you are better today.

Thinking well how it may blow in all good company
