Fun fact for the Grist interaction with Zask is that you can cast Grist from grave cause it’s a insect anywhere except the field and it counts as a planeswalker when it dies to theoretically you can cast Grist from your grave infinitely assuming you have infinite mana and a way to sac Grist
I believe (but I'm not 100% certain) that Konrad will trigger twice each time an insect dies. Once when the die and enter the graveyard, and then I second time when it leaves the graveyard and goes to the bottom of the library. I'm pretty sure it hits the graveyard first.
Yes in resolving, it will hit the graveyard first, then leave to go to the library. Good catch! Totally forgot that second part of cards leaving the graveyard!
Canoptek Tomb Sentinel is unfortunately a bit of a nonbo with our Commander. We can play it from the graveyard, but it goes on the stack, so it doesn't technically enter FROM the graveyard. I was disappointed when I found out, but decided it's worth playing anyway because I have cards like The Cauldron of Eternity, Dread Return, Rise of the Witch King, Agadeem's Awakening and Victimize in the deck.
Zask, Skittering Swarmlord, this was my favorite commander from Jump/Start 2022. I instantly built a deck around him. Helm of the host, Living Hive, Blex vexing pest, Death's Presence, Crash of Rhino Beetles, Moldgraf Monstrosity, Wild Pair, Ant Queen, Gigantomancer, Fest on the Fallen, Glimpse of Nature, The Qzolith, Patriarch's Bidding, Beacon of Creation, Mesmeric Orb. Coat of arms.
Crawling Sensation and Crawling Infestation are solid cards for this deck, since they'll add to the self-mill engine and make 1/1 insect tokens in the process. I'd also shout out Desecrated Tomb. Probably one of my favorite cards should your deck have the interaction to use it. Not making insects, but every single time an insect dies, or you cast one out of the graveyard you'll make a 1/1 bat. Tormod the Desecrator too - who, even better, will trigger off of you playing lands from they yard! Also fun note, Zask doesn't care if the insect that dies is a token or not! So if a token dies, you'll still mill two. Great, but also perhaps something to be careful of. And as always with tribal decks, Changelings are awesome. Green has a few good ones, and Black has two. Maskwood Nexus gets value too if there are enough (or valuable enough) non-insects to justify it.
Sadly I don't think Canoptek Tomb Sentinel works too well in this deck, since when you cast it from the grave with zask, its technically entering from the stack and not from the gy
Casting Canoptek has to come from somewhere. Whether it is from the hand, exile or graveyard. If I am wanting to cast Canoptek from the graveyard, its ability will trigger because it came from the graveyard.
@@PubStompMTG It is cast from the graveyard, meaning it is put onto the stack from a graveyard. When it enters the battlefield, it enters from the stack. When you cast from GY, it doesn't enter *from* GY. This is why cards such as _Breathless Knight_ include both of those clauses separately: It works no matter if the card was put onto the stack or BF, as long as it was done from the GY. If only one of these is mentioned, only that one is counted, like here. Unearth isn't casting, it's an ability that goes onto the stack and then that directly returns the permanent to the BF from GY, which is why it works with that ability.
@@PubStompMTG Flayer of the Hatebound is a good rule precedent for this, where it's explicitly mentioned. Weird, that it isn't in the rules info for Canoptek Tomb Sentinel.
Both look pretty fun! Depending on your playstyle. If you like going for tokens, Grismold is a fun option. If you want to go landfall/self mill Zask is great!

Definitely a great interaction! Missed that but thanks for pointing that out!
Oh wow, an infinite sac combo...

Good points you bring up! Thanks for commenting!
another fun trick with this guy is cellar door is a way to grab a card from the bottom of your library and put it into your graveyard lol
Nice! Thanks for mentioning that. Thats pretty nuts!
Can’t wait to build this skittery boy! Keep up the awesome work :)
Thanks! Zask Gang!
This may just be one I build. Scute Swarm is a menace to society
Seems like a fun build! Scute Swarm gives me nightmares of math sometimes in my sleep

I have been wanting an insect commander for years. I used to play a Xira Arien deck. It wasn't very good.
With verdant succession you could go infinity
this is just goodstuff sprinkled with a couple insects
Having trouble on whether to build Zask or Grismold

Dibbert Knoll
im new at the game and i dont know a lot haha. but why the decklist has 100 cards? i genually dont understand XD
The commander format is a singleton format that is made up of a 100 card deck
@@PubStompMTG oooh ok thx 😁
Something tells me you should put in torment of Hellfire
You very well could! Powerful card!
@@PubStompMTG seems like the deck can generate a lot of Mana so seems like a good wincon also maybe Genesis wave
