I immediately think of Josh Gordon when i think of Blackmon only to realize they were in the exact same draft class. At least Gordon somehow lasted 11 years despite his love of weed.

He was actually really good to be a super star wide our in the NFL. Everytime he came back from suspension. He would have 100 yards receiving or look elite at that time. But after that i think the alcohol screwed him up

Money isn't everything Matt. These guys prove that. I just think your either too young to understand, or that you can't understand and that's why you can't feel for them. One thing I have learned in life is that you have to accept people for who they are. They might be losers today, but in time you'll come to find that we all end up taking Ls in life.

I have a challenge for you, there’s a guy who was the number 2 ranked qb in the late 90’s to early 2000s named Gary brashears from Arkansas. I haven’t been able to find too much on him but I know he commuted to Arkansas and he quit during conditioning drills during his sophomore year when he was supposed to be the starter and he went downhill from there. If you could do a video on him you’d be the goat.

I agree with a lot of people in the comments. This guy has zero clue about drug addiction. He thinks everyone addicted to drugs is a loser. Well just a heads up plenty of successful people are addicted to drugs that you would have zero clue. You only hear and know about the famous or poor people. I have a friend who was a high ranking officer in the military who hid an addiction for years and lived a great life. Sounds like he grew up with both parents and played sports because mommy and daddy could afford to give him a great life. If he was brought up with no parents and never had opportunity to play any sports or be a kid he might understand that the drugs give people the feeling of love they have never felt and unfortunately that is the addiction. Everyone just wants to be loved and some get that from family and friends and some who don’t have that option get it from drugs. That being said I love his videos and respect his talent and work he puts into these videos

OG southern Oklahoman here. Plainview was a 3A (maybe 4A) high school, which is a smallish school in Oklahoma. Typically, small-town kids in Oklahoma get overlooked by major programs (see: Wes Welker), which is likely why JB didn't get offered by major blue blood programs, especially when you have so many 4-5 star football players in Texas to choose from.

I agree with you, Matt. My father, mother, 2 brothers & 2 sisters were ALL alcoholics/drug abusers. Both of my brothers have passed away (1 from throat cancer, 1 from overdose). My father & 1 sister have successfully beaten their demons. I never ended up with the desire to be drunk or drugged up. I saw what it did to my family & made the decision to NOT be like them. I am the youngest of 5 kids & the ONLY one of my siblings to have a career & ALL of my children in my home. I don't even let my own mother come to my house to see her grandchildren anymore because of the way she acts when she's drinking (and she's ALWAYS drinking). My point is, I believe the way you do. Alcoholism & drug use is a CONSCIOUS decision people make. I've had people tell me that alcoholics don't have a choice or It's a disease. I don't believe that at all. A disease is something you have no real control over. Drinking alcohol or doing drugs takes EFFORT to do. Just don't do it.

Among my experiences in life, I've had the opportunity to witness parts of court ordered drug treatment. Most people beg to enter the program to avoid jail time. There are usually two kinds of participants. The first are those who take full advantage, clean up and get back on track. Some even request to remain part of the program in some way after they finish their probation requirements, just to keep themselves in check. Then you have others who try to get over and get angry with the judge for violating them after they have been given multiple opportunities to get it together. I say that to say this: Matt, you're not wrong for calling on Blackmon or anyone else in his position to be accountable. There is help out here. People have to want to help themselves. It doesn't matter if a person doesn't know why they're doing wrong when they know they are doing wrong. If you know you're doing wrong, seek help if you can't stop. If you refuse, you can't get mad when people refuse to feel sorry for you.

Not to mention that a lot of these football players have some form of CTE which will really mess your mind up. I hate to use this word but Matt will look back on a lot of these videos and cringe at the way he speaks about people.

My Papa was a grounds keeper and student at OSU. Dexter Manley was his coworker and fellow student.
Papa used to retell me stories of Dexter's exploits on the field as told to him by Dexter. Papa wasn't a sports fan.
When it came out that Dexter Manley was illiterate Papa told me he knew that and he wasn't the only one.
I would be interested in hearing the story of Dexter Manley's college years because they are personal history to me and other than Papas stories I have little information.

QB Brandon Weeden was the reason Blackmon was a star. Weeden started in 2010 and 2011, both years Blackmon won the Biletnikoff twice.

People gotta understand where Matt’s coming from. He was an average athlete who got injured and couldn’t finish out his small school college career. He’s not gonna have empathy/sympathy for an athlete that was talented enough to make it somewhere he (Matt) never would have had the opportunity to and ruin it over their bad life choices. Because if Matt was talented and fortunate enough to make it to that level, he knows he would have done everything in his power to make the most of it. Simple as that

Except he is trash. He said he could have been D1 in basketball if he didn’t get hurt. There’s a video out there of him playing 1v1 and let’s just say it was more “try hard” non hooper than anything remotely D1. Dudes a clown and a whole ass lie 😂

Sounds more like jealousy to me. Jealous of his natural talents and in Matt’s eyes he wasted them because he didn’t utilize them the way Matt thinks he should. Maybe Matt doesn’t live up to someone else’s expectation so I guess that makes him a loser to huh

He's not the only Oklahoma State wide receiver to throw away his career "Adarius Bowman" was a Mel Kipper top 20 pick. He would have been a highly touted pick had he stayed out of trouble.

I hate to be this guy but a lot of people think " he had all the talent in the world. All he had to do is keep his head on straight" . That's the point. To be a decent pro athlete you have to work really hard. Harder than the majority of people will ever work at anything one thing in their lives. With the exception of generational basketball talent (lebron, wilt, shaqetc),because how rare people of that height with any coordination are, all good pros athletes have to work hard. Justin put in that work only to throw it away for substances. That means he had a real problem. It's not just "straighten up your act" type of thing. The worst part about guys like that is their problem and their gift are usually intertwined. That's why I have sympathy for the aldon smith of the world because their great talent lead to them being coddle rather than ,like most of us, being forced to confront their shortcomings.

I know this is before a lot of people's time on here, but the Akili Smith debacle is super fascinating because that was the year Ditka and the Saints traded away all their draft picks to the Redskins for Ricky Williams (they moved up to 5th to get him). Initially the Saints tried to make the same trade with the Bengals (for the No.3 overall pick), but in true Bungle fasion, they declined and drafted one of the biggest QB bust of all time. I should mention that the first 3 picks were Tim Couch, Donovan McNabb, and then Akili Smith. I don't why this one goes under the radar all the time.

    • @jasonnelson6624
      @jasonnelson6624 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

That's the Bengals. Since they became a team they have had real bad luck. Their 2nd draft they drafted their franchise quarterback with the 5th pick overall. Greg cook he started as a rookie and was living up to expectations. Then he hurts his shoulder needs surgery. Plays 1 game in the next 4 years and retired. What was interesting about akili Smith was how many games he played. He didnt get a chance on any other team. Same for Andre Ware with the Lions. It's rare to have a top 10 QB drafted to not get another team to give them a chance.

10 years of sobriety here, and I can honestly say that it doesn’t really matter what you call an addict who’s actively in their addiction, because most of what’s said is true; Loser, asshole, thief, manipulator, etc. The point is, we’re not ourselves. I see it like a monster that takes over, or a completely different person.
At the end of the day, we made the decision to get high instead of getting real help for whatever hurt us to begin with. That’s no one else’s fault but our own, and that behavior honestly doesn’t deserve sympathy or empathy from anyone. Do we deserve sympathy or empathy for whatever we went through that led us to initially use? Ya, we do. But we still chose to use, and Matt is simply saying he doesn’t wanna be around that shit, and I don’t blame him. Blackmon unfortunately didn’t get the help he needed, and instead CHOSE to use until that dick hole monster took over and destroyed his football career. Hopefully he was able to finally fight it off and get his life back.
