I met Cliff on 9/17/11 right after they demolished Missouri state. 56-7 being a defensive minded guy he was my favorite player at the time. I was wearing a custom #13 C. Harris Jersey. He was standing away from everybody at the meet and greet with who I believe was his GF. I wasn't trying to be all annoying and didn't approach him. I'll always remember hearing "Aye, 13 come over here fam" I looked at him like me ? "Yeah you come over here" as I walked over he extended his hand for a Dap then pulled me in for a hug and said "thanks for all the support I feel the love and had to recognize the realest one here" he signed my jersey and gave me his wrist band. We talked for like 10 minutes. I'll always remember that day. #13 will always be special to me.

Kid probably had some childhood trauma and once he tried some substances he realized they helped him cope. Unfortunately drug’s really take a hold of a person in that situation. It’s sad but it’s why we need to do more to help support people in this situation and help them break the cycle for future generations.

I think one of the things I really had a hard time wrapping my head around until I was probably in my late 30s is how much people get messed up by mental health issues (usually undiagnosed) as well as bad home or environment situations. A bad environment can heavily contribute to all kinds of mental health issues.
When you end up with one or both of these things, and don’t have a support system or just people who just think you are an f-up, it’s not going to turn out well.
That said I think it’s also up to people to realize their own issues and try to get help with them. So many people just take zero accountability or even take much time to be introspective about how all of the problems they are facing get caused by the choices they make and their own behavior.
I say this as someone with plenty of my own incurable issues and struggles, but I do my best to not let it affect others and try my best to be a decent and productive human.

Yep. Ptsd is real. As kids, you dont understand you're being affected as you live it. Like seeing parents fighting or getting bullied etc you dontvl realize it affected you all your life, until wat later in life. And that's if you're lucky enough to see thst you have an issue caused by past trauma. Even just joining a gang and going through fights or having to deal with rivals as a teen, give these kids ptsd. These kids probably join gangs from having ptsd from being bullied or beaten up by the guys in the neighborhood 2 blocks over etc. Many of those kids were good, nerdy kids in grade and middle school, only to turn into stone cold killers once they're in high school. Mental health definitely is way bigger and more ppl have some type of mental health issues then ppl think.

I had both, barely ate, 10 brothers and sisters. We always lived in the same house, the gays were coming out all around us kids. No clothes, sex acts in the streets right in front of us. Yeah we smoked weed, well my siblings did. We went to catholic school, I went onto catholic girls HS. Mommie tried to help me with my home work after working hard at work. But it was in English, Spanish, and Italian. We didn't have it easy. We were clean, always respectful. Never got in trouble. I was molested age 4-12. I'm sure my sisters might have been also. My brother's dodged the priests. I'm 59 now. Mental health what? We never heard of that crap till these past couple of years. This sissy generation. This drugged out generation. All 11 of us never been to jail, we did try drugs like weed beer ciggys. Mommie didn't put up with that crap.

He might’ve suffered from early onset schizophrenia. MJ has been to trigger that in males, and young males (mid to late teens) in general are more likely to develop schizophrenia than girls at that same age. CTE can only be diagnosed after death. Schizophrenia lines up more with erratic behavior with it being both a separation in thought and action. He might’ve had it before Mj use and MJ probably just accelerated it, if not triggered it completely. Just a theory tho. Wish him the best.

It seemed so benign to me, which made it hard to relate to people who got sent down a dark cave from it. I went from thinking it works for everyone to being the guy who cautions new users. Especially friends who want to do stuff like give a parent an edible for whatever they're going through.

I'm going way back, but the best running back in Long Island history was Jim Brown. Jason Gwaltney didn't have the burst that Brian Cushing had over in New Jersey. I saw them both play on TV. Gwaltney was pile driving dudes who you knew weren't going to be major college prime time Saturday players. Cushing played across the Hudson River RB & LB at Ramsey (NJ) Don Bosco Prep against much better competition and showed out. I sympathize with him over the license issue. Once it gets suspended or revoked once you get stopped once for driving on a suspended license it starts a snowball effect. But hes messed up. Is it head injuries? I think the concussions effect some others different. Look at Antonio Brown, he was some what normal until he took that nasty hit in a game when he played for Pittsburgh. He's never been the same and his behavior has been and still is erratic. I'm not blaming the game of football, only because as a player you have to be aware of the possibility that you will end up with a TBI. It's just inevitable and that is a chance you take to try and better yourself and help their families to get out of the poverty. It's Russian roulette

Looking through past championship games and seeing the names I remembered through the years. Cliff Harris was definitely one, I remember he was extremely touted after the 2010 season. Like possibly the best CB prospect in the class, crazy he didn’t play in the NFL because what he did in those five games is pretty much unmatched.

It's hard to say for certain CTE is responsible for his recent decision making - especially since he made some questionable decisions pretty early on in his football career - but it sure feels like this is the case.
