  • Complete biography: celebritynetworth.wiki/peter-c...
American musician, singer, songwriter and producer Peter Paul Cetera was born on the 13th September 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, of Polish and Hungarian ancestry, and is particularly well-known for being an original member of the rock group Chicago. As a solo artist, he has also released eight studio albums, including “One More Story” in 1988, “Another Perfect World” in 2001, and six Top 40 singles, such as “Glory Of Love”, “Restless Heart”, etc. His career has been active since 1962.
So, have you ever wondered how rich Peter Cetera is? It has been estimated by celebrity dot money that Peter’s net worth is over 30 million dollars, as of mid-2017, accumulated through his successful career in the music industry. Another source is from starring in two film titles.
Peter Cetera spent his childhood in the Morgan Park area of Chicago, one of six children; his brothers are Tim Cetera and Kenny Cetera, both involved in the music industry as well. Peter went to Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary, and later transferred to Mendel Catholic Prep High School, from which he matriculated in 1962. He began playing the guitar at the age of 11, when it was given to him as a present from his parents.
In no time Peter’s professional musical career began, as when he was 15 years old he joined other high school students, and formed a band called The Exceptions. However, he soon founded his own band called The Big Thing, and liking the music they produced, they renamed themselves The Chicago Transit Authority, and then shortened the name to Chicago, with Cetera becoming the frontman of the group. The band’s first album came out in 1969 entitled “Chicago Transit Authority”, and during Peter’s stint with the band, they released 14 more albums, becoming extremely popular during the 1970s, especially with albums “Chicago V”, “Chicago VI” and “Chicago VIII”, all of which topped the US Billboard 200 chart and achieved platinum status, which increased Peter’s net worth by a large margin, subsequently enabling him to launch a solo career.
While still a member of Chicago, Peter worked on his debut self-titled solo album, and released it in 1981. As the band’s popularity began to decline, Peter focused more on his solo career, and left the band in 1985. Since then, he has been working on a solo career, which is now the main source of his net worth. So far, he has released eight albums, including “One More Story” in 1988, “World Falling Down” in 1992, “Another Perfect World” in 2001, and “You Just Gotta Love Christmas” in 2004, all of which have added to his net worth, thanks to consistent sales.
Since 2005 Peter has been almost constantly on tour, which has also increased the size of his net worth.
In 2016, Peter was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame with the other original members of Chicago; however, he didn`t show up for the event.
Apart from his successful career as a musician, Peter has tried himself as an actor, appearing in two films, the 1973 film “Electra Glide In Blue”, playing Bob Zemko, and later in the 1991 TV film “Memories Of Midnight” as Larry Douglas, which also increased his net worth.
Regarding Peter Cetera’s personal life, he has been married twice, firstly to Janice Sheely from 1968 to 1973, and then to Diane Nini from 1982 until 1991; they are the parents of one child. He also has a daughter with his ex-girlfriend, Blythe Weber. His current residence is in Sun Valley, Idaho. In his spare time, Peter enjoys playing soccer, basketball and other sports.

Wrong. They were all parts of a band. A lot of egos. They were a great band from the beginning but would not have been as big as they were without Peter. Or without Terry. Or without Robert Lamm. After those three the rest were just very talented musicians who added something to the band. But they sold millions of records no doubt because of Peters voice like it or not.

Chicago, during their heyday, had 3 great singers. Kath and Cetera had a wonderful dynamic of silk and leather, when singing together.

This Bio has a lot of holes in it; as noted Cetera was NOT the front man for Chicago, but did feature his vocal on a number of the Chicago cuts. Cetera was not a founding member of Chicago but was the last to join the Big Thing when Kath who had sat in with the Exceptions one weekend met Peter and then invited Cetera to meet with Parazider Pankow Lamm and Lochnane who were forming The Big Thing later CTA/Chicago The Instrument as mentioned in another post was the Accordian that Cetera first played but he hated it was teased in school about it. Terry Kath had been playing Bass with a number of bands but Peters Tenor vocals was the main attraction for him joining the Big Thing.Peter Cetera took with him when he left the band 68 million dollars as part of his vestment with Chicago who had wisely established a "retirement fund" for each member of the band. Its likely that his actual worth was higher, as many in the band said the bands management "Ripped us off" of a lot of money. Still 68 million was a lot of cash to say goodbye with. The Bio list 30 million which differs from the 68 million reported in 1985 that cetera took with him.The difference is likely due to his notorious dislike for touring which generates lots of cash and boost album/cd sales.I like Cetera and he is responsible for my picking up the Bass which I played professionally with from 1980 till recently when my left arm was damaged due to a mild cardiac event.Like Cetera, I too am a tenor.

I read all the comments it seems like a lot of people know their stuff concerning Chicago. Starting around 1973’s Chicago VI Peter started emerging as the voice of the band as far as hit records go. On Chicago VII Kath’s vocals were used one last time for a top 20 hit (I think the song reached#11 in 1974) “ Wishing you were here” which ironically Peter wrote that song. On Chicago VIII Robert Lamm’s vocals would be heard one more time with the 1975 top 20 hit “Harry Truman.” Other than that it just worked out that Peter’s vocals were on the songs off their albums that would be hits.
( I was too young at the time to even recognize these songs on the radio but I have to say I never hear Harry Truman played on the radio I would’ve never known it was a hit if I didn’t get a chance to read about them )

Peter came on board AFTER the Big Thing and he was not the front man, they were all equal. If there was a "frontman" for Chicago in the early days, it would have been Terry Kath. Peter became the face of the band during the MTV era.

The CTA album, the two big hits of their first album, Beginnings and Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? were both sang by Robert Lamm and they become hits after the album Chicago came out. Their first hit was Make Me Smile on "Chicago" which Terry Kath sang. Kath also sang Colour My World which was part of the Ballet for a Girl in Buchanon Suite. Cetera sang on 25 or 6 to 4. Summarizing, out of their fist five hits, Cetera sang one of them, Kath sang two, and Robert Lamm sang two.

Several parts of this bio is inconsistent with the truth.
For one he didn’t leave Chicago because of their “decline” of popularity. He left in August 1985 after the release of Chicago 17, which is one of, if not THE top selling Chicago album. He left over touring schedule conflicts and a desire to go solo. Chicago was very popular with 4 top 40 hits from the 17 album (Stay the Night, Along Comes a Woman, You’re the Inspiration, and Hard Habit to Break, the latter two reaching #3)
He lost some luster in my eyes, as did the band when they couldn’t lose their egos for a day to perform at the HOF induction. How great would a song or two from them have been?

Peter Cetera did not found the Big Thing or Chicago. The Big Thing existed as put together by Terry Kath, guitarist, and Walt Parazaider, woodwinds, and had six members. They decided to add Cetera to get a tenor voice and add bass guitar. Cetera was not in the band when it was founded.

In my opinion, Chicago in the 70s didn't have any frontman. It was the three main vocalists, Terry, Peter and Robert. After which in the 80s, Peter was definitely the frontman.

Depends on how you define "front man". If you mean "band leader" or "founder" then, no, Cetera was never Chicago's front man. But if you mean the vocalist who emerged as the most recognizable "voice of Chicago" and who sang lead on most of their hits, then Cetera *was* the band's "front man."

    • @jkllfdsa

Yes. IMHO, when they stopped doing songs containing all 3 vocalists, that's when the best years of Chicago started to fade.

Cetera DID NOT “form” The Big Thing, that later became CTA, and then just Chicago… The Big Thing, and Peter’s group, The Exceptions, were double booked at the same night club. Members of The Big Thing heard Peter’s tenor voice, noticed that he was an accomplished bass player, both of which were lacking in The Big Thing. After the show, members of TBT approached Cetera to compliment him on his singing and bass chops and asked if he would be interested in joining the band. Cetera, who had like what he heard from TBT, was receptive to their invitation, as he was ready to leave The Exceptions anyway.
THAT is how he became a PART of an ALREADY formed band.
Cetera also left Chicago when he AND the band were at the HEIGHT of their careers, and didn’t leave like a rat deserting a sinking ship. It can be argued that Cetera’s career wasn’t as successful as that of Chicago after his departure, in part because he refused to support his album by not touring. When he DID tour, he refused to perform any Chicago songs, even the ones he wrote, because he was desperate to make his own mark without the ties to Chicago. That didn’t sit well with his label or his promoters because his tie with Chicago was too strong and he couldn’t fill stadiums by performing the only solo hit he had in Glory Of Love.
Everyone but Peter, and half of the members of Chicago, wanted him back in Chicago. As a result, radio stations stopped giving him airplay after GOL because they didn’t like that he wasn’t in Chicago anymore.
Sometime in the 90s, Cetera finally accepted that unless he tried to get back with Chicago, or unless he started singing Chicago songs on his tour, his career was over. Robert Lamm, the original keyboardist for Chicago, approached Cetera on several occasions to get him to rejoin Chicago. Cetera admits that he had almost been persuaded to rejoin after a couple of meetings with Lamm, but ended up backing out because the band’s touring schedule was far too vigorous for his taste and that he simply didn’t need nor want to work that hard ever again.
