Unlv has access to public facilities in Las Vegas. A solid fb program, 2 big 12 road wins this year, and the best geography advantages of any school in the country. If you don’t win in Vegas people do not come to games, that makes it tough. Still if UNLV can get the money in Vegas behind it, then it absolutely is a good choice. @@michaeltamez3563 it makes sense to add all three teams and San Diego St. Split the conference between east and west. No cross division games and winners play in the championship game

Adding UNLV would be fun, for sure, but would it enhance the Big 12 profile? They’re almost certainly not going to represent well OOC. But we should remember that the Big Ten added Rutgers and Maryland for tv sets, which doesn’t seem to have hurt the broad perception of the Big Ten. Parity is already a gift and a curse for the Big 12. The league could use a couple doormats who add dollars and inflate the records of the contenders. I don’t know if UNLV is that program, but it’s an intriguing prospect.

UNLV would give Big 12 the Pacific time zone and the Vegas market. Also, while UNLV does not have even a good football history (outside of Randall Cunningham and Ickey Woods), they have finally committed financially to the program and built a first-rate football facility and an NFL stadium and are now winning. Will basketball return to it's prominence? They definitely have the player to take them to that level and they have the facilities and name-recognition to do so.
Couz, I love hearing your perspective even when I disagree. I can help you with one thing. The reason the the MWC has the clause of no exit fees for teams going to the 4 conferences is simple. The PAC has the same clause in their new deal. Few schools in either conference want to be there 10 years from now, and they want to make it easy to leave. Also, if they didn't have that, then UNLV would definitely have bolted to the PAC. The MWC fears the PAC and the AAC. It does not fear the Big XII, which should tell you something.
Beat me to it about the clause. More power to UNLV if they can get an invite to the B12. That would make it easy for the PAC to pick off any other schools from the MWC if they want any. Air Force would have options between the AAC and the PAC, but all others in the MWC would be falling over themselves to get a PAC invite. New Mexico and San Jose would be the front runners there, IMO. Would feel bad for the UTEP fans if that were to happen.
Both the MWC & the Pac-12 have a clause for exit fees for going to an A4. The MWC has a $0 exit fee for all members if they join an A4. In the Pac-12 Membership Agreement, it shows that if a member of the conference wishes to join an A4, there is a $30 mil exit fee.
IMO B12 should only consider UNLV as part of a group of schools after adding 4-6 ACC schools. First add Louisville, VT, NCSt & Pitt in 2031. After that I could see a BB school push for UConn, Duke, SDSU and either UNLV or Tulane. If you have Orlando, San Diego, New Orleans & Las Vegas, B12 would be the roadie conference. Plus having attractive travel cities could help recruiting.
ACC schools moving to the BIG12 is ~0% other than FSU. My advice is for the new BIG12 to focus on being the best Tier 2 after the dust settles. There are a lot of people like you who love Las Vegas and will root for them if they start drawing attention nationally.

If you add Vegas to Dallas, and Orlando/Disney…you have some fun locations. You could have games going on at each of these locations. Then, think basketball and add a New York anchor, you have some great spots for all sports.
As a UNLV fan, the school has come a long way over the past 4-5 years. A new practice facility, a new football stadium (shared) and a new commitment to football. But, one of the greatest things that is occurring.... the results are starting to show and people are starting to learn about the program that has been a historical dumpster fire the last 40 years to one as a potential sleeper in a desirable market that fans want to travel. There is a reason why the Raiders have the highest price tickets in the NFL.. it's not local fans, it's visiting fans that are part of the 45 million visitors want to come to Vegas every year. Big12 could really do something to create value for the other members in having a place for conference games where fans want to travel. It's not the best for creating a home crowd, but Vegas isn't like any other city in the world. And not just for football... every year the PAC(insert number), WCC, Big West and Mountain West all hold their conference basketball tournaments in Vegas. I'm a little biased, but I think the pros outweigh the cons with UNLV as an ascending brand right now.
