      We did this hike almost a month ago but it took me that long to get through the footage and edit it to where I was happy with it. But wanted it to be true to the amazing experience we had. It was just absolutely amazing. Thanks for your kind words!

    LOLOL. You tell yourself “I’m not sure I could muster up what it takes to hike the Subway!” Then you watch a 7 year old do it (via the more difficult route). No excuses now. I have got to make this happen!

      @DoseofDirt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great trip with the kids! Man, I didn't see any of that when I was in Zion! I need to go back and check out the subway! Seemed like it was a nature waterpark out there! How did you keep the stuff inside your packs dry? A bunch of dry sacks or was another method used?

    • @DoseofDirt
      @DoseofDirt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Always more to see in Zion! “Nature water park” is exactly right! It is DEFINITELY worth the trip! It is permitted but we were able to get permits ok.
      Yes, we used dry sacks and I was paranoid so our my stuff in freezer ziplock bags in the dry sacks! 🤣 some people will get an entire water proof pack, but I’m just afraid I’ll need to get something out of it with my wet hand and then defeat the purpose. So I just let my pack get wet and put the things I needed to keep dry in dry sacks! Thanks so much for watching!

    • @DaveOffGrid
      @DaveOffGrid 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DoseofDirt hahaha well extra precautions for valuables is always a good thing. I agree about waterproof packs. I'm not sold on them. And they're normally 3-5 times the price and backpackers normally have liners in addition. The only other benefit is water retention in silnylon vs dyneema.

    • @DoseofDirt
      @DoseofDirt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You nailed it! And those waterproof packs just don’t look comfortable either! I’ll say that these osprey talons that we wore were perfect! Dried quick and super comfortable! Easy enough to just use dry sacks inside a normal pack!

    When you take Chloe out on an adventure, you don't mess around do you?! The GoPro never does justice to those steep climbs. If you ever figure out a way to get it to accurately show the difference between a 10% and a 40% grade, please do a tutorial. I'm convinced I can only appreciate how steep some of that was because I've shot similar angles myself only to question my sanity during editing thinking "Gosh, I thought that looked way worse in person."
    That's got to be the coolest trail I've ever seen. Normally I'd say "hey, loved this bit, and that bit" but there was no fluff to sift out of this one. Brilliant trip all the way through. There's no such thing as warm water where we live, so we can fully appreciate the reactions on hitting the pools here. Interesting that you brought wet suits.... that's a cool idea. Hope you didn't get brain freeze at the end.

    • @DoseofDirt
      @DoseofDirt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha! You pegged us-we go all in! 🤣 I’m glad I’m not the only one that feels like things are WAAAY steeper in person than on TH-cam! 😆 It was an AMAZING route! If you guys ever make it out to Utah, you should definitely put it on the list! I didn’t want the video to be longer than 15 minutes but I couldn’t figure out how to take 10 minutes of stuff out, so it’s a long one! 🤣 Now my younger kids want to go, but we may have to wait a year or two. The wet suits were definitely worth carrying! Nothing quite like that feeling of jumping into freezing cold water! 🥶🥶🥶
      Thanks for watching!

      @@DoseofDirt If we ever make it to Utah, we will definitely want to do this. We would probably have to tap you for a guide though, zero rappelling experience. Aria likes to play tough on cold water and will dive into 40 degree river pools up here without blinking. She takes her half-Canadian heritage pretty seriously. I'm guessing the wet suits were for more than just comfort though. Some bits of that canyon looked deep enough that I'm assuming the air was pretty cool down there as well.

    • @DoseofDirt
      @DoseofDirt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@northeastfamilyadventures9186 love the comment about half Canadian heritage! haha! The great thing is that there is a 'bottom up' route where you can see a lot of the awesome parts of it (including the epic water slide and cannonball spot) so even if the rappelling is overwhelming you can still see some of the best parts! But if you do make it out here it would be fun to hit up a hike together!
