Thank you very much for this setup tutorial. I'm in South Africa and yes, my ADSL router uses different software and there were many differences but at least this video got me on the right track and within very short time I was able to use the smartphone app to log into my DVR system. Kudos to you, sir !
Installed it myself without any issues. The wifi signal is great even th-cam.com/users/postUgkxE_D_sddGAdiVUKp7PkkmyxO7bRtgqmk5 when the router is located far away. I really enjoy the night vision feature that allows me to see clearly any activity near our house (mostly cars and wild animals). The motion detection is helpful to me as well to monitor what happens on our front.

Dude you are awesome. My system had been down for over year. I just got a new router so I have to reconnect it anyway. My fans and HD went out on the Night Owl DVR. I just replaced both so I had to format new HD. I all worked together an I followed your instructions. I'm up and running now. Now I got to get my phone connected and I will have it all together. Samantha Elizabeth I bought 2 new fans on eBay. The connecting wires were to short on the new fans so had to cut the old fan wires off & solder to the new ones. It was easy for me. I'm a IT computer &
Server tech. I also have all the tools to do this kind of stuff. U need to unplug the dvr w/out fans it can burn up your hard drive & circuit boards. Good luck.

I had a issue where my DVR is connected to the modem with an Ethernet cable but couldn't be found on my modem device page.
9:10 Manually setting the IP address and IP gateway as per video instructions instead of automatically acquiring it fixed it instantaneously.

My dvr came with a IQ code and i downloaded the app for my iphone, i then looked up my dvr IP address and entered it into my web address bar, after connecting the internet cable. I set up a network user and made a new user name and password, it connected online when i entered the dvrs IP address. Then i used another IQ code that came with the DVR to connect it to my iphone app.. WORKS.. This video was a good leg up for me but i had to figure out the rest..

This is great video and very useful. When you typed in the google for external IP address that you got will this be DVR's external or the computer's? I am just not sure.
Excellent video ... a good follow-on would be how to do remotely what most DVR's only allow you do locally - i.e. recall stored videos, search, download, etc. This seems to be the achilles heal of remote CCTV DVR access.

Could you tell me if your DVR matches your monitor resolution? I have a 1080p dvr and an older TV, but it won't show any menu, nor on a laptop screen with higher resolution. I'm stumped.

Hey mehnnn.. i wanna say thank you a million times, you are a GENIUS bcos i bought a DVR Network System and i spent ages reading the setup manual, it was crap, they might as well use a Chinese takeaway menu as a setup manual. But the way you explained the set-up, step-by-step was pure FIRST CLASS. Thank again Mehnn. Thanks to you my DVR is hooked on the internet now and i can view it on my Ipad and Iphone. I can make a tutorial for this and upload it soon for you. However, the quick way is once your logged into your web service, click on the SEARCH tab at the top of the page. Pick the begin and end time and which channels you want to view recorded footage from, then click search to find all of the videos inbetween those times. Click on the clip you would like to DL and then hit the download button. In my video, I'll explain the rest of the options on that window further for you if you'd like.

My modem is in the back of my house but my dvr and cameras run to the front of my house can I teather the dvr or use my usb d link (I forget what it is called but it was to make my old tv connect to my wireless internet via usb) to get Internet to the dvr ? Or any other suggested ways I haven't thought of.

win30034 yes, you may lose remote access in that case. However, our units do have the ability to use a domain name that's always updated with the correct IP. This would be in the case of using something like DYNDNS.

Thanks for sharing your video with us when I get connected to the application that shows the camera's and I click either Show All or any indidual camera a box pop's up saying "No Rights!" Have you any idea why this would happen?

This problem occurs when you have the incorrect login and password. The DVR that is being displayed here is a Chinese made Dahua System and it's default login and password is admin / admin.
And what can i do about it when i have non static ip adress,i mean,when i got dinamic? What do i need to do to configure it? I know the whole forwoarding proccess,its just that piece,when i have dinamic ip adress? Thanks

A lot of people no have a direct internet connection near dvr , what about connection by a bridge?? How can I do it?

***** I can't get my camera system on my phone. I have it hooked up to the dvr machine and my comcast modem. Do I need a router? I can't see my camera view on my pro android night owl app at all. I did scan my modem. It read it. But I see nothing but black on my app in my smartphone. But I have the camera up and running at my house. I see image on my little HD TV. But again nothing on my app.

It is not recommended that you hookup the LAN cable to the modem. You can do it but it can cause issues depending on the provider.

This is great. Mot of what I needed to know in one place. Question: if I have DHCP enabled on my router, would my external IP address change from time to time? Let's say I find the external IP address today and move out of town tomorrow, will the same address work months from now?
No it will change but its not a big deal just change it in the settings or you can pay for a sta ip from your isp but if you just chang it your self it will save you money.
Goldenchildgt you can use ddns, so instead of writing your IP (that could change from time to time) you write for example home.myddns.com and it always go to your IP. You just need to configure the ddns on your router

*EMERGENCY* im working on a ai based system and trying to integrate with the dvr camera ,where the video from the dvr is used as a feed for my compute,.. so i need the ip address of the dvr to put into the program so then it executes the program accordingly...so is that possible? let me know please
