      Greg I want you to know I bought the skunk2 just because of your video so skunk2 needs to give you a COMMISSION. although I work at hp motors in polzer South Carolina they specialize in miatas I haven't bought the from them since I'm disabled and I work there and do internet work and help cleans and stuff I got my intake manifold for 300$ they gave it to me for what they paid
      greg now that it's been a couple years and I am just now putting mine in on the beginning of next month because the shop has time and they are helping me out is the skunk2 throttle body worth the the extra money I havent bought that and I was thinking that I'd ask you if I should shell out the rest I wont have to pay labor I'll just have to buy part or is there a better one now.
      I have the 97 Mazda 1.8 crate motor with the begi/Garrett turbo kit mega squirtpnp2 and rx8 yellow flying miata v2 fuel rail turbo smart boost control coolant reroute nothing to to crazy its basicly my only joy left since I got sick with crohns diesease is having the race/street car to my doctor appointments. sad hu

    Love the video! Look into some dyno runs, the VTCS intake actually makes the most HP of all the stock intakes, below 6k. And it makes the most TQ of any of the intakes. Don't bash the stock VVT intake ;)

    It should be pointed out that this manifold (unlike the flat top which has all oem features) will delete egr and evap. So if you are putting this on an obd2 car and live in a place with strict inspections you will now need to "find a guy" who will pass your car. Also, this manifold deletes the support. Miata manifolds are known to crack without the support. Lastly if it has a 66mm bore, it will expose all of the iac channels on the stock miata tb which may really screw with the functionality of the iac.

      Im not trying to knock the skunk2, its the only aftermarket option and its at a great price but the flat top has its merits and shouldnt be tossed aside just cuz this is out.

      86surge The stock miata intake has a support that runs from the block (just behind the alternator) to the manifold (on runner #1).

      MrMAG Crap! Most people on Miata.net seem to agree that there's no consequences in removing that piece so I left mine out. My nb is all stock but I like to run it hard at most once a week; makes me wonder if my manifold is at a high risk of cracking now. Thanks for making that comment about it!

    I have mine installed and car running as of 3 weeks ago. Didnt to an unboxing or whatever. Tried to get the motor together drom scratch to make it to H20i but never made it. Had to delete and modify too many things for my setup to work.

    Hi Greg ! I know, that you didn't have intention to spend that much money on intake manifold first, but, wasn't actually better to go with itb's in this situation? Yes I know, itb's are way more complicated and expensive too, but also once you get them tuned and overall sorted out, you are on the absolute top with intake, there is nothing better :)
    Btw, your videos are simply awesome, I can't wait to see (and hear) your turboed beast for the first time ! :)

    Great video! In the process of rebuilding my 1999 NB Engine (funny story!) as my daily driver and I might as well upgrade the manifold and throttle body. Besides ising an OEM gasket and keeping stock ISCV and TPS, Anything else I'm missing? And do you have an e-mail address? :)

    I could have swore you had an install video and showed how you modified the throttle body on the skunk 2 and I cant seem to find it. I would really appreciate a link or a video to help as to how to modify the skunk 2 throttle body where the cable connects because when I press down on the pedal the throttle sticks open still. No matter how many times I try to adjust the slack it is the same result. Send help please lol.

      Yeah, check out my "dyno prep" video a couple episodes later, I show how to take care of that issue easily! Basically just need to add a little tension to the spring. Also makes the gas pedal feel way better.

    Hey Greg, I got a 92 Miata with a serious bogging down issue. And It idles does just fine but when you give it gas or it's under load it bogs down but it's fine at higher rpm's. can you do a possible video of what it could be? I've checked spark plugs, my external fuel filter, The fuel filter inside of the tank, The AFM, vacuum lines, just dont know. Any idea?

      coils going bad? mine gave up in a 30min drive, was cruising at 3000 rpm when the rpms would suddenly drop and the car would bog. When i downshifted, the problem was gone at 5000 rpm.
      After a couple of minutes, it would stop revving altogether, and i had to be towed.

      alternator ^^ Trust me, its related to the charging system, when it seem like a vacum leak and fuel cut under load, and that you know the pump, the filters and lines are all ok, its the alternator. easy fix
      I can even predic the death of the main 80a fuse ^^

      it would cause similar issues, but not this one, since idle is correct under no-load condition and mostly the fact it can rev normaly under some condition le high rev, if it skipped a tooth, it would be off everywhere at every range, and mostly would backfire and die and would mostly not idle correctly at any time. So as good as your answer seem good @Gustavo Chacon, I would say to @Chris Jones to not waste his time on that and check the charging system, batt and alt. ;)

      Timing, I bought my miata for $900 cuz the guy did the same process, replaced timing belt and adjusted timing with the cas and a timing light, and I race it today with the same motor the guy said was junk

      Miata Tokyo built Only if you're upgrading from a 94-97 intake. No gains have been shown over the better flowing manifolds on n/a builds.

      Zachary Esquivel with a turbo application you’d have to rig up a fake throttle body to create equal air volume. It’s just not worth the money.

      Zachary Esquivel the skunk2 is also pretty affordable. It's cheaper than a squaretop.

    doesn't look like a great finish on the inside for maximum airflow...i would be lightly porting and polishing those imperfections for sure! at least smooth the rough castings out a little bit!

    On boosted cars the square top and S2 don't really even lose low-end power over the stock manifold, they just gain power up top. S2 makes the most power, I'm gonna throw one on my supercharged VVT car real soon here. Still running the VTCS, should be a huge upgrade. FM dyno tests showed a 20 hp gain from VTCS to square top on a 175whp car lol

      Squaretop and S2 don't really out-perform each other anywhere, on boosted or n/a applications. I consider the S2 a reasonable upgrade for a VICS or VTCS manifold if Squaretop isn't an option/can't be found etc.

      @@TheCarPassionChannel FM's dyno test shows a S2 making 5 hp more than the FT from 4500-6500 and then like 15 hp more above 6500. I wouldn't have said it if I hadn't seen dyno tests of the S2 out performing the FT lol.

      @@gtdrummerdude Their test was done against a VTCS manifold, totally irrelevant. The only accurate testing that's been done on the S2 vs Squaretop is the testing that 949 Racing did, and they showed that the performance difference is negligible.

    Is it true that I can't run my AC anymore if I use the skunk 2? I live in a tropical country lol. It was said that it can't run or idle with AC..

      Dudskii I don't see why not, ac idle-up is controlled by the ISCV which is still used on the Skunk TB.

      Nope, these are only for the 1.8L, they will not fit the 1.6L

      Ok. Thanks for responding so quickly. I’ve got a question though about naturally aspirated miata builds. There’s a video on TH-cam that I found where his nb is making 163 to the wheels with just a cai, exhaust, ms3. Does that sound possible to make that kinda of gains?

      @@josephguasco3179 Expected power on pump gas would be around 140-145whp for bolt-ons and a dyno tuned MS. Cams and E85 would probably be the next step. Just keep in mind that all dynos read a little different too, but stock head, stock cams, stock bottom end 160 seems on the high side. Not impossible, but unlikely

      Thanks man. I’m new to this kinda of stuff, so forgive me if I don’t understand some things. I’m just trying to figure which direction I want to go with my build considering I’m married and have 3 kids and on a tight budget. I’ve got a 03 miata with 96k on it and I love the car but I need more power. So with that being said I’m just trying to figure what is most cost effective.

    Does that flattop manifold fit the mk1 engine

      The OEM flat top only fits 99-05 1.8L engines. It will physically bolt up to a 94-97 1.8 but the ports don't line up
