They found that having less than three steps causes way more falls than having three or more steps. Of course the falls are less damaging for most people but if you’re elderly, any fall can be very bad. The reason is our depth perception doesn’t throw up enough warnings. With three stairs, your brain says stairs! Loud and clear. With a sunken lounge room, you can be turning or carrying something (obscuring the step) or just stepping back, and boom. It’s something you probably already know in your trade, but if you get quoted to, say, put in one or two steps into some landscaping (and the folk are elderly) you might mention it. I lost both parents to small falls. Once you’re over 90 and you end up in hospital because of a small fall, you most often don’t come out again. On that cheery note... keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching Albert 👍 you make some good points. I always consider less steps to clients that are elderly. I was adopted by my grandparents.A little fall could be catastrophic
We have tons of these in Arizona. I live in Scottsdale and I can’t count how many of this sunken living rooms I’ve seen. I am in the process of having a very sunken conversational pit with a beehive fireplace filled in at a 1973 ranch house I just purchased in Scottsdale. It was about 4 feet deep with the beehive fireplace going to the floor. Contractor used masonry as fill, brought in ABC and just completed compaction and laying the rebar today. Enjoyed your video.
Thanks for a heartfelt encouragement to step out and get free from the man. I did in my trade 21 years ago and at times it's a bit hairy but overall I would never go back! Once you work for yourself, pick up a few good employees and begin to make some $$$ pay bills and work toward financial freedom there is no looking back! I really like the way you present and your integrity! Keep the faith, teach and grow! You are a good guy! Let's encourage and teach because more people need the message of financial freedom and enjoying going to work!
Spent a decade hating a 1962 sunken room in Pennsylvania. It had no practical or even useable way to arrange furniture except as a never used formal sitting room. And then there was the den room down the short steps to the 1st of 5 floors into the darkest faux wood panels ever created. I am so glad to be where I am now
Truly the Best! The Sicilian beast Anthony is at it again with Javier, Milton and Milton Jr! Definitely an “A” Plus crew! Straight up concrete contractor and nothing else. Enough to be made without having to do turf, or have any store fronts! Lol. Definitely a beast at your Game Anthony. Shout out From Adan! the Best GC in Boyle Heights and all of So Cal! Thanks for the video! We are not too far away in Yorba Linda and have one of those stupid sunken living rooms. We've had a few friends damn near kill themselves tripping on the step. We're in the planning stages of raising it up and your video helped us to understand what it will take.
I’ve seen sunken living rooms. Pittsburgh fox chapel area a ton of the big homes built in 60s 70s have them. My old house had sunken living room and all the rooms where on different levels really gave it a good look. When I was drunk and come home always to lazy to put lights on I’d always trip on them.
Another great video. Glad you’re kickin ass. We’re using line pumps for our floors more and more. The guys like them and we’re getting the concrete down faster with them. Looking forward to your next video👍
@@WestCoastCustomConcrete We are in MN. Twin Cities Metro. New construction. We use pumps every day for our footings and foundation wall pours. We are pouring floors on top of 2” foam and I floor heat more often. We are using 2” line pumps multiple times a week. I’m thinking about buying one. It would probably pay for itself. What are your thoughts Anthony?👍
@@WestCoastCustomConcrete I’ve been looking into it. I think it makes sense. We get charged about $750 per basement for pump charges. Our floors are usually 20-25 yards. Take about 2 hours to place. Last week one of the flat crews used a pump 5 times for 5 basements. We use them more in the summer for exterior flatwork. Beats using a bobcat bucket. Great to see your work. Keep them coming Anthony. Really nice work.
I'm in Colorado and I have a raised living room ;-) doesn't seem to serve a purpose except for a big trip hazard! And it's right off the entry too derp.
Yes, they have some sunk in living rooms in Florida. I saw 1 in zephyhills Florida and 2 in Lakeland Florida, when looking for an older house with terrazzo floors.
A1 work as always man! 💪 you’ve inspired me to take interest in this field of work even though I ain’t got much experience it just really dope to see your final work at the end of it all 🤜🏽
I was halfway through the video before I realised what you meant by a sucken living room 😂 I thought it had sunken due to the earth subsiding😂 Was popular in 70 and 80s. Nice job 👍
Excellent job as ever. In the UK I don't think I've heard of any sunken living rooms - not intentionally anyways. I'm sure there are a few but it's not a 'thing' here.
Ive done a lot of these here in AZ. Some guys think you have to remove the existing concrete before pouring new, but you dont. You can pour right on top like you guys did. Back in the 70s/80s these sunken designs were popular. They make no sense. youre right, probably easiest type of concrete job to do as long as you get it flat..no joints, no edging, no formwork..easy.

Seven sacks of concrete per yard. Sixty sand, forty rock. Fly ash is a additive I take out.
