I was reading a post on reddit a few hours ago about what the new Superman movie needs, and among the comments I found one that caught my attention. I need a Superman movie with a happy ending. Funny thing is that this series got it.
@@ninjanibba4259 A Good Ending. Yeah. Believe it or not, practically every single “solo” Superman movie (BvS isn’t solo) in more ways than one has a very problematic ending. Superman I ends with Superman spinning the world backwards, which is an arguable Deus Ex Machina since he suffers no consequences for it and it’s never brought up again that he can do it (if you count only mainline sequels, not the Donner Cut). Superman II ends with a kiss of memory wiping proportions to restore the status quo. Superman III ends with Gus Gorman suffering no consequences for making a giant death machine just cause he had a change of heart last second. Superman IV ends with Superman pushing the moon out of orbit to defeat Nuclear Man and Lacey breathing in space. It also ends with no viable solution, acknowledgment or follow up to the fact that Superman disarmed the entire world’s nuclear arsenal and nobody gives a care about it. Superman II The Richard Donner Cut ends with him reversing time and undoing the entire movie altogether, rendering it all pointless and irrelevant. Superman Returns ends with Superman pushing an entire kryptonite island into space with a shard stuck in his side, Lois abandoning Richard just cause he’s not Jason’s biological father, and Superman’s noncommittal to being around. Man of Steel, despite a climatic battle ending with Superman in anguish after killing Zod and a quarter of Metropolis in ruins, has a jarring tonal shift to him destroying a drone and the captain calling him “hot” - it doesn’t address the destruction in a meaningful way and is arguably the movie’s biggest flaw. So yeah. Can we finally get a Superman movie that sticks the landing and ends well please?
@@joxerd happy ending meaning Superman smiles and flies on or gives hope things will be better, which all the movies have, even MoS did it All you focused on was the plot details, which wasn’t what I was talking about
@@joxerdI imagine the ending of the film won’t be like…without conflict, hell I expect it to end with him hearing somebody calling his name, smiling and flying off. I also imagine we will see setup for whatever the stories are building to by the end
Man... this show was so much more than I ever thought it could be. The characterization, tone, and themes were all on-brand to what makes a great Superman story to me, but they still managed to tell a fresh, unique story and go places we've never seen Superman go in live action. It's a bittersweet ending becauses I'll miss this show and look forward to re-watching it even more when the collection comes out, but I'm also excited for James Gunn's Superman this Summer.
Didn’t know about this show until I turned on the TV and the final battle was playing. I stuck around and got emotional at that final scene of Clark walking around the house.
I'm so happy to be part of this journey with the show, the ups and downs, and the waiting for the seasons was worth it. I'm happy it got a proper sendoff.
This series was just beautiful from start to finish. The opening and ending monologues just really capture Superman and also shows us so much more about him.
The Superman and Lois series was a great series from start to finish, despite having flaws. The final season was great, even though I wish we had more from the season and the series. The series did end on a high note, with a sad yet beautiful ending.
I am so very happy we got this show. It just made me love these characters again, in a way I hadn't since the Donner films. My wife was not a Superman fan, but I asked her if she wouldn't mind watching the premiere episode with me. After that, I never had to ask again if she wanted to keep watching, because now she was a fan. Damn I love this show. P.S. - I cried at the end. Anyone else?
Superman telling us that he died hit me hard. Even in other stories where he has died by going to the sun. Or had his universe erased. Somehwhere in my head canon i told myself hes ckming back. But hearing and then seeing it reminded me that that indeed life is so short and even the most powerful being is able to live a regular life and die a regular death. And indeed life goes by so fast.
i consumed all 4 seasons in a week... of course, while watching your videos in between. happy that this one is finally out! i looove superman & lois! david corenswet's superman has a lot to live up to after tyler hoechlin's performance. also, i've been dreading getting into the whole of arrowverse with the large amounts of episodes and seasons T^T
I am so glad that we have both Superman & Lois and My Adventures of Superman to help bring the character out of the cynical, edgy dark ages that he's been in. We're getting our big blue boyscout back!
It moved me to tears because it felt like a beautiful ending of a whole life experience like I was really there seeing it all happened. My whole heart was getting moved yet held with such awwww
Aye man I’m happy to say I was here all the 1-4. What a good run. People don’t know what they missed cause man Tyler EMBODIED modern day superman and Clark better than any media outside of maybe comics.
The ending was so beautiful, seeing Clark's whole life, as he grew old. Both the good and the hard, and the final scene was incredible. It all goes by so fast.
This show impacted more then any other show in my life. Such a great story, such an amazing ending. Great video essay!!!! Happy that people notices the legendary status of this series
One of my favorite bits in the final episode was when he pulled one of those screws out of his chest, despite having “diminished” power. He did what was assured to be impossible, and I’m a sucker for whenever he does stuff like that. Like Grant Morrison wrote in Action Comics, “when the odds are impossible, do the impossible.”
Love the show. Tyler is totally the highlight for me. P.S. crazy hyped for more arrowverse essays. The Flash means a lot to me and I think it has a lot of depth
The Flash tv show should've ended in season 5 or 6,it was already in tv trope mode in season 5,that love mantra got real old, real quick.Iris getting angry with her husband was a tired trope too. The actress who played Iris had the same ole expression ( a blank look ) in every episode. I thought she was bored most times. LOL.
In Superman & Lois season 2 was the closest we get to Superman One Million Live Action and I enjoyed Superman & Lois this version of Clark Kent got something that most Clark's could ever dream of was having a family and he became a dad and then became a grandfather
Dude I'm so glad you've made videos about this show, it's what made me get over the whole "Superman is boring" mindset! I have loved this show so much and I'm so glad they were able to stick the landing so well with all the roadblocks along the way!! Superman & Lois will forever have a special place in my heart, and it is totally throwing off the expectations I have for James Gunn's Superman 😭💀
There's an ending from DC Comics 1 Million's series where Kyle Rayner got to see Superman in a special ceremony with an eternal version of Lous Lane reuniting them after centuries. Due to the time travel exposure, he only recalled pieces and bits while talking to Clark in the present.
I am always stunned at just how good Doomsday looks. It's even expressive and and has readable emotions. The final shot in front of the sun is just beautiful.
I only started watching this show earlier this year and was glad to see season 4 was out this year. And man, what a ride. It actually made me emotional very often, there's so much heart in this show. I know being about family is a meme and everything but they did an amazing job with all these characters. There's definitely a bit of cheapness to the show and the action isn't the best but the story and acting is great, Clark and Lois in particular are terrific. I know it's called Superman & Lois but I did not expect Lois to be such a powerhouse of a character, her actress was incredible in the role. I was surprised with how many intense things it dealed with like Lois getting cancer and her misscarriage, somehow I never thought they'd go there but I'm glad they did, in a world full of insane superhero stuff it was great to have some down to earth human problems like that. Honestly this show might be the best Superman show out there for me, I love Smallville as well but it's a little long winded so Superman & Lois edges ahead ever so slightly I think. Or at least maybe now I'm in my 30's it just spoke to me a lot more. Anyway yeah don't sleep on this show, great stuff.
I'm not sure it's a question of sleeping on it as a question it being barely promoted after Season 1. The connection to the Arrowverse was confusing from the beginning (and some people were pretty burned out on that by the time S&L started), the show went on some weird mid-season hiatuses (not entirely their fault due to COVID, but still, made it hard to know when it was and wasn't on), it got bogged down with silly drama in Season 2, and then the whole WB shakeup screwed any chance they had of continuing even if it had been more popular. But yes, I hope more people will go back and binge it now that it's complete.
Listen, I’m gonna keep asking for a multiverse crossover until it happens. I don’t care that we had a comic tie in crossover; it doesn’t feel like a true finale to the Arrowverse. Characters from the pre-MCU Marvel movie franchises have made comebacks throughout The Multiverse Saga. I don’t see why characters from the pre-DCU DCTV shows can’t either. Especially since there are so many that didn’t get to end properly or get their due altogether like Superman & Lois. That being said, the finale is nearly perfect, especially as a close to the DCTV era.
Nextstar is so stupid for turning the CW into something unrecognizable. Superman and Lois was an amazing show and Tyler is one of my top 3 live action Superman/Clark Kent.
This show is basically a family drama, and is handled beautifully. Tyler H is now my Supes for live action. It took the elements of Snyder MOS and elevated them.
I think one of the greatest little details in the afterlife is when Clark sees Lex crying, he just sits next to him and places a hand on his shoulder to comfort him. Despite everything Lex did to Clark, Clark still didn't hate him.
I just finished watching the show recently myself and wholeheartedly agree with what you say here, it's a great show that had a beautiful ending for Superman that I haven't really seen before, and I think that because of that among other things that altogether Superman & Lois may be the best of all of the Arrowverse shows at the end of the day, so I think it's fitting that it would officially close out the Arrowverse. Was gonna say that you mention All Star Superman which I also love, and one of the things I love about this ending is while the ending for All Star Superman is more mythic and cosmic, focusing on him as Superman (though that's a great ending in its own way), this ending is more human and relatable, focusing on him as Clark Kent, which is very moving. Here's hoping for more great Superman content in the future though, and I'm really looking forward to the film later this year and seeing what James Gunn brings to the character. 🙂
To me the main problem with the show was its availability... i Tried to watch it for years, but it was impossible in my country... i only just managed to buy the series... on youtube of all places... and it's amazing... just finished binging season one and it's the best Superman thing i've ever seen. Usually Superman's struggles and challenges come from kryptonite, technology or magic from villains... but here, they come from his relationships with his family and friends. It makes him much more relatable and interesting.
Superman & Lois reignited a love for the man of steel I hadn’t had since I was a kid. No super hero project has moved me like season 3. 4 and 1 are also perfect Superman stories.
I love Superman and Lois it’s really awesome show and seeing Clark Kent and Lois lane being great parents to their kids Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy and Jordan Kent makes me so happy and represents 😊the best era of dc rebirth in my opinion.
@ indeed I was happy about that too and honestly never thought in a million years they would bring back new 52 superboy suit but somehow they actually made it work in live action which I approved.
What bothers me is this show was cancelled because people sitting in suits felt it was too complicated to have a new Superman movie come out while there was a T V show. Which pisses me off since DC comics is all about the multiverse it is its bread and butter in DC comics.
I just completed the show , and I love it , the banters between clark and lois and the understanding between them.I liked how doomsday got his ending , the hand stopping superman to show that he understands the situation and also wants to end the suffering , I actually connected with him throughout the show too. Far better than some superman movies . Just my opinion . Peace
Amazing show, I think the shorter 13 episode seasons keep it at a deliberate pace. So many great little shout outs to the comics and other media, Superman has a Max Fleischer old cartoon inspired suit in an early flashback and comics Doomsday environmental suit Bizarro used to crossover, and even more recent comic stuff with Superman going Solar Flare form. 😂My personal fav was seeing a nod to 90s redhead Lex Luthor when they showed him in flashbacks.
Honestly, the only change I'd have made is that I'd have swapped the Lex fights and had the power suit Lex fight happen first. In that scenario, Lex tries to beat Superman and fails but of course blames it on Superman's powers. So then Lex decides to show the world that without his powers, Superman, now revealed to the world as Clark Kent, is weak and worthless. Then Clark kicks Lex's ass without powers. Even within the powerless fight, I'd have made a tweak. I'd have Lois turn off the red lights and Clark seems to be walking away with Lex thinking that Clark is a coward. Then Clark, takes the switch and turns the red lights back on and goes back and finishes the fight.
Had it's ups and downs, but overall was the best live action Superman ever, with the single best scenes. And the one where he comes out to the world was unbelievably good.
Tbh, I was a bit more tough on S&L than many others. I think it had an excellent cast, especially the core Kent family, but I wasn't always convinced with some of the writing choices. But it gave a version of Superman that we haven't seen in live action, so that was pretty cool.
5:00 he does look like an angry biker dude 😂. 7:00 that's really funny 😂😂😂. Superman is kryptonite'd, but he still beats up his opponent. 7:30 "we didn't have the house, it was demolished in S03" wtf!! 9:00 about the lost time in the show, about how I lost time in this video... 9:40 #quote "why even bother asking?" "because I'd want you to be part of the family" wow, that's so wholesome. 11:10 the video should be over here. 12:20 Fuck!!! I don't recognize this pause menu. Ah, I think it's Injustice Gods Among Us. Yes, that's exactly what it is. 15:33 this is another place the video should've ended at. 18:22 "because it'll last for about 4 seasons minimum too" 😂😂 thank god. 18:30 the video is finally over.
My one critique is that Doomsday showed awareness, even in the end. They should have sent him back to The Inverse World, and let him be the ultimate hero. Oh and, the Kryptonite Screws were a stupid plot device, because they should have decimated clark, and he was barely affected.
Considering this series, I do have my worries for the Superman movie under Gunn. While I do think he is a really good director, and both GotG and his Suicide Squad is really good, they do have this fun, unserious vibe. Superman on the other hand should have this... genuine and sincere optimism, warmness and hopefulness which I at the moment have doubt that Gunn can handle. Thanks for a good video.

@@joxerd happy ending meaning Superman smiles and flies on or gives hope things will be better, which all the movies have, even MoS did it
All you focused on was the plot details, which wasn’t what I was talking about
@@joxerdI imagine the ending of the film won’t be like…without conflict, hell I expect it to end with him hearing somebody calling his name, smiling and flying off. I also imagine we will see setup for whatever the stories are building to by the end
@@ninjanibba4259 a happy ending of his career as superman, duh
All 4 seasons & 53 episodes were perfect & the best Superman story ever put to screen as far as I’m concerned
Man... this show was so much more than I ever thought it could be.
This just couldn't have been possible with a Oscar worthy performance by Tyler.
You mean Emmy
For me and my daughter this version will always be our Superman 💖
This show impacted more then any other show in my life. Such a great story, such an amazing ending. Great video essay!!!! Happy that people notices the legendary status of this series
It's the one thing that I felt was so true, this was the bravest story of superman and lois, they made me laugh, cry and love
Tyler Hoechlin is also another Superman that played Sephiroth.
Beautifully written summary of a show that deserved it! Thank you! ❤
Oh my gosh! So many teasers and I cannot wait!
Just finished the series today, then you uploading this video 🤯
Dude I'm so glad you've made videos about this show, it's what made me get over the whole "Superman is boring" mindset! I have loved this show so much and I'm so glad they were able to stick the landing so well with all the roadblocks along the way!! Superman & Lois will forever have a special place in my heart, and it is totally throwing off the expectations I have for James Gunn's Superman 😭💀
The goat with another upload. The only hopecore I need
Love all star superman love this channel love this ep love Superman
It was an amazing show. It showed one of the core aspects of Superman. Clark Kent is who he is, Superman is just something he does
There's an ending from DC Comics 1 Million's series where Kyle Rayner got to see Superman in a special ceremony with an eternal version of Lous Lane reuniting them after centuries. Due to the time travel exposure, he only recalled pieces and bits while talking to Clark in the present.
So happy Superman was able to get a plain good live action tv show.
I’ve been waiting a long time for this
Thank you, Leo.
Always.
Happy Holidays!
You almost always make me cry.
Even in those low points of Season 2, I still saw the gem. Season 3 paid off all that time so well for me.
The end scene of S&L was on another level.
Loved it, man.... That's all I'm gonna say.... Wow!
Just finished this series with my dad. Best DC show in my mind. I saw this video in my feed and wanted to wait until i finished. Watching now.
This is hands down the best iteration of Superman we've ever gotten the fact it was a cw project is why it is so slept on.
We truly lived during a golden age of Superhero television. Not all of it was good, but it was fun to be along for the ride. Rip Superman TV 🫡🙏🏻
Fantastic Superman series!!! I purchased the season pass every season. Going to miss it.
Yeah I said those exact words, man I slept on this show. Glad I finally gave it a shot because wow it is amazing. Cried like a baby several times.
I love it. Best live action Superman adaptation since Lois & Clark, and a perfect spiritual successor.
this is the best and most hope filled superman of all time
Superman & Lois reignited a love for the man of steel I hadn’t had since I was a kid. No super hero project has moved me like season 3. 4 and 1 are also perfect Superman stories.
Love the vibes
This show was so good. I'm honestly glad it wasn't dragged out into 7 seasons. The final season felt so tight in its pacing, not a wasted moment
SUPER NICE
I loved this show, I think you could do a whole video just on the epilogue
I love Superman and Lois it’s really awesome show and seeing Clark Kent and Lois lane being great parents to their kids Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy and Jordan Kent makes me so happy and represents 😊the best era of dc rebirth in my opinion.
So so happy that the boys got proper suits in the end. They rocked the 90s Superboy and New52 Superboy suits very well.
@ indeed I was happy about that too and honestly never thought in a million years they would bring back new 52 superboy suit but somehow they actually made it work in live action which I approved.
Tyler hoeclin still my favourite superman actor 🫣
This is so good
An amazing show and I'm going to miss having new episodes to watch but I will be rewatching the excellent four season run we got. :)
Thank you
God I’m going to miss this show
David cornsweet superman has some big shoes to fill after the greatest of this show
I was waiting for this
I didn't expect them to reference All-Star but they did very good
That was beautiful.
Then Clark, takes the switch and turns the red lights back on and goes back and finishes the fight.
we baerly have common intrests but as soon as you upload i watch your videos, keep up the good work
The Superman we needed and deserved 🥲
Best cw show in a long long time
"And Johnathon gets offscreen plastic surgery". I laughed WAY too loud at that one
But it gave a version of Superman that we haven't seen in live action, so that was pretty cool.
loved this show
this show makes me sad and i havent even seen it yet lol
The best live action Superman and Lois Lane. This series was a wonder and they got a beautiful, perfect ending
Implicitly pretentious dropped!!!!
It's not everyday you hear an offhand Expanse ref!
I haven't been sleeping on it I just can't freaking find it anywhere!!
Season 4 is on the cw app
Seasons 1,2,and 3 are on max
Considering this series, I do have my worries for the Superman movie under Gunn. While I do think he is a really good director, and both GotG and his Suicide Squad is really good, they do have this fun, unserious vibe. Superman on the other hand should have this... genuine and sincere optimism, warmness and hopefulness which I at the moment have doubt that Gunn can handle.
Thanks for a good video.
Nice
loved the show
