The DCT470 is 2 separate 3 speed manual transmissions in one housing that pre selects the next gear by throttle position, brake position and RPM momemtum and changes gears using 2 separate hydroelectronically controlled CLUTCHES, not a torque convertor on an automatic transmission. Every MR video on TH-cam is peppered with comments saying "why auto" or "5 speed is better" but the reality of it is that the TC-SST was the pinnacle of the Evo X and there isn't one situation where pushing a clutch in manually and shifting manually is better. On the same track, the MR beats the GSR by 1 sec or more and that is just cold, hard facts kids. A GSR runs at 90 mph @ 3800 RPM, the MR at the same speed runs at 3200 RPM. There are no situations that the 5 speed is better other than the cost of ownership, which is subjective.

It's too bad that a company as massive as Mitsubishi can't manage to build anything interesting.. The Evo was definitely an achievement, but I can't help but think they could have done better.

Mitsubishi pushed the dual-clutch automatic gearbox so hard, lots of people didn't know the Evo X came with anything else. And I really felt like I had *settled* when I got mine with a 5-speed.
The more I hear from dual-clutch owners and see videos like this, the more I like my 5-speed.

Why Cant We Americans have Driving Shows like this? These guys are awesome I mean fucking Awesome. What a bold ass move in the Subi. Wow I was on the edge of my seat. I love this Show.
The people who play with these things, tell me the Scooby-doo is a fairly nice car when you turn up the boost a bit, but the EVO-10 is a work of art. As standard cars, they're fairly close, but if you spend the same ten grand (or eight or whatever) on go fast stuff, particularly if you mostly just up the boost, the EVO is an absolute gem. You can double the hp and it continues to work exactly the same as the standard car. If you think that's normal for tuned cars (or bikes) then you haven't done much tuning....

That wasn't even the FQ400. You ain't gonna turn up no boost in this one though. Sorry, no 4g63 in this EVO. Besides, he was kicking the ass end around for fun. Almost like the tires were for the dry. Either way the EVOs have always been faster, ever since the 6. The 8 MR will always be my favorite, real work of art. Yes, I drive an 06 WRX. Should have been allies all along, fuckin fanboys ruin everything.

I understand people complaining about the Evo being auto and it's unfair to compete against a manual subaru but what people need to understand also is that the Evo in this video is a FQ400 and the Subaru is a standard STI. This is also an unfair matchup. The FQ400 is a more powerful and expensive version of the standard evo and to be fair it had to be competed against a similar customised version of the subaru, which is the S series. So all in all it was somehow a fair battle.
That Evo has DCT automatic transmission can shift easier , faster , better

They never made an fq360 in the sst. Its a 300 or 330.
Why would you use an automatic evo? That's not even an actual match up. Evos do have a 5 speed option.
Magazine writers and TV reviewers test whatever the manufacturers send them, and have to give enough positive reviews that manufacturers will keep sending them stuff.
For a while Mitsubishi was *only* loaning out dual-clutch automatic cars to the press. Most reviews were unconditionally positive, and the press found different creative ways to kiss up to Mitsubishi. Zillions of people missed the one line per article that said a 5-speed was standard equipment.

@@daltonsikhosana8275 I can understand the whole Subau thing with the boxer engine and the Symmetrical AWD but Mitsubishi's S-AWC system on Gravel mode can surpass it as Gravel mode should distribute power 50/50 if I recall.

I hated the Evo;s auto gearbox. It's good when you're doing track style driving, but a pita otherwise. I had the STI that came after this one and that was just a joy to drive.

Should have both been manual transmission, but as compared, the Subaru won the race and blew away the Evo in the slalom test - and was clearly a lot more fun to drive - so how could they pick the Evo???

The so called EVO X is not an Evo its more "Nissan" than Mitsubishi, I would like to see this test repeated with a modern subaru vs the Mitsubishi EVO 9 or 8 now that would be a test to see how far we have come technology wise and how good the Mitsubishi Evo series was.
