Actually, the first portion didn't work for me. I downloaded an iso of Kali linux and a program named "etcher". Used Etcher to make a bootable flash drive for Kali linux with ease. The old PC boot right up with that flash drive and it gave me full access to the files in the win32 directly. (First time I used Linux actually. Pretty Cool!) I renamed the 2 files with ease and the rest was as you described. The command line interface worked like a charm.

Thanks!.... I want to mention something here... I couldn't access the files the way you did in the video because my screen "where the magic happens" was different. They must have removed that option as a security measure so what I did was a workaround. I used a "Mini XP" boot CD which allowed me to access the system 32 files and then change the file names around. Once this was accomplished everything else worked as you outlined it in the steps to change the password. Once again, thank you.

I'm stuck at the Windows Error Recovery screen, "Lunch Startup Repair" option won't show up no matter how many tries I do. It'll show either "Start Windows Normally" or to go safe mode. I should mention I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate on VMWare Workstation Pro, which I don't know if it's relevant for it to run on a phyical PC to work
It doesn't matter if it's a virtual machine or reap one. Maybe it's even better, that you have it on a virtual machine. In that case you have to rename those files by any means available to you. For example, you can boot from a USB flash drive which contains a portable Windows like Hiren's boot CD or use a bootable USB drive with Windows 7/10/11 or you can use an ISO image. And then just follow the instructions on the video. Try my new updated video for Windows 10 and Windows 11 which will explain how to do that: th-cam.com/video/-0crAEE-6hA/w-d-xo.html and you can apply that technique to windows 7 to rename those two files.

Hey, i messed up on the utilman1 part and its now util.dll or sum like that, can u help me.

i went to rename the files back- but thn thr was a utilman & utiman 1 & my cmd file had same name- so i took the 1 off of utilman & wasn’t sure wht to do so just left it like tht- any ideas? plz respond- i would appreciate tht very much
Didn't work for me (Dell laptop W7 Ultimate). When carrying out the repair, it goes through 'loading files' then comes to System Recovery Options (asking for country keyboard setting etc) then says 'To access recovery options log on as a local user'. I will never get the the 'unable to repair' option. Looks like I might have to buy software to get past the sole account password.

I have a question, I'm stuck at the step in the video where I have to click cancel on the "Do you want to restore your computer using System Restore" my mouse and keyboard are both non responsive, they are responsive all the way up until this point but when this popup appears they dont work, i've tried replugging them in before and after this popup but nothing happens, any suggestions? Thanks!
Go to the BIOS settings of your laptop/desktop and make sure that the USB keyboard/mouse support feature is ON. In the recovery mode your system doesn't boot drivers for your peripherals so we need to turn on hardware support. If it's old Desktop computer you can also connect keyboard with PS/2 connector. They don't need any drivers or settings.
My administrateur nime on cmd are not the same on my screen and when I close the exit page from cmd and press inter he told are my nom d'utilisateur or the mot de pass are incorrect ?

so I do all of this but at the end instead of asking me to change the password it just says the command completed successfully. and want let me in
i did it. BUt it didn't work. I modified both files but when i was on the login sesion Utilman didn't open. SO i tought i misspeled so i did it all again but cmd was no where to be found and Utilman had restored by itself (preserving Utilman1). What can i do?

Hello I’m trying to unlock my old HP Pavillion dv5 and everytime I click cancel after it asks do you want to restore your computer it takes my to the HP system recovery tool instead of the view additional information screen. How do I bypass this issue?

Why does my ease of access not work after the process can’t do whoami
Hello, I'm trying to access my Toshiba Satellite, window 7 laptop. I forgot the password and appear to have locked the system as I can no longer switch users either.
I have managed to get to the Startup Repair Window, but the error message that should display "veiw problem details" drop down menu / link doesn't show up on the screen, no matter how long I wait. How do i get to this screen?
'View diagnostic and repair details' - only gives me information in a window, not a notepad
'View advanced options for system recovery and support' - asks for the original password, which i don't know.

My old HP didn't allow the full path, but the reset during boot got me into the HP fixit screens. One of the options was a command prompt, which allowed me to make the file-name swap, then to complete the process.

This didn't work for me. I followed to the letter and i get an explorer.exe and another error on login, followed by a black screen with just the mouse. I feel something went wrong with sys32. I even reverted the filenames back to normal after resetting the password in cmd and still same problem. Just a word of warning to others that things can go wrong.

I tried to do this, but unfortunately whenever the screen to click view problem details, my HP laptop has a HP pop-up that either makes me go through system restore/reset/restart. Is there a way around this?

Hi, im really bad at technology so forgeting my password it was a trauma for me since i was unable to get any help from anywhere. SO this video was recommanded to me by a friend( Thank you Aryan) . I saw it many times untill i learned the steps, i even write then down to make sure im not skipping anything. And it worked. It took me more than one hour cause i wasnt sure what i was doing and made some mistakes( that bad i am) but at the end with a bit of helpfrom another friend(thank you Vish) on typing the last 2 commands i succeded. IMPORTANT DETAIL: Your computer must be connected to the internet via a network cable before launching the Startup Repair process. If your computer is not connected to the internet, the "Send information" window, visible at 1:14, will not pop-up at the end of the repair process, and you will not be able to click "View problem details" button and this method will not work. PS: I have not tested whether internet connection via WiFi will work. I can only confirm that it works via cable.

Hey, I could enter the PC (thank you), but I can't rename the Utilman into cmd (and so Utilman 1 into Utilman), so the cmd is not working, and when I try to open the Utilman (the one that is supposed to be the cmd) it opens itself as the utilman and not as the command prompt. Can you help me please ?
You can't rename system files under normally loaded Windows! You have to go again into the recovery mode in order to rename those files back to its original names. You already know how to do it.
@@ElectronicsComputers Well, now I've renamed Utilman into cmd and Utilman 1 into Utilman, both are considered as the Utilman application : when I try to open cmd, it opens Utilman instead :(
How can I recreate the cmd.exe ? Is it possible ? (This is an old PC running under Win 7)
Oh and additional info, I tried to repair with the PowerShell, it says that he found that cmd is "broken" but it can't repair it.

What if i am in the account screen and i cant get in at all ? Is there any way in general to get in windows 7 or reactivate it straight up?

Please can someone help - when I scroll down at 1:28, I don't have the option of viewing the privacy statement in Notepad. I only get the option to view it online and clicking that link results in an error. I'm also on Windows Vista Basic but I can't find any other tutorials that address my issue.
My system turned off abruptly in the middle of the scanning and now it is not showing command prompt on start screen. What can I do now?

what do i do if there isnt a launch startup repair on the pc and there's only safe mode (rither with networking or command prompt) and last known good configuration
You have to perform unexpected shutdown by any means (press the reset button, press and hold the power button) right when you see the windows logo NOT LATER. Otherwise it will boot into a safe mode.
