How to Connect a CCTV DVR to a Wireless Router

  • cctvcamerapros.com/wirelessDVR - This video explains how to connect a CCTV DVR to a wireless router.
    Sometimes customers install CCTV camera DVRs in locations that do not have a hard-wired network connection. For example, maybe you ran all of your RG59 or CAT5 cable for your security cameras back to a closet where your DVR will be located, but you had no way to run a network cable from your wireless router to that location.
    Most CCTV DVRs and network recorders for IP cameras only have a wired Ethernet port (no built-in WIFI).
    If you want to view your security cameras remotely over the Internet, you need to connect your DVR to your router.
    What can you do?
    You can use a wireless bridge to connect any DVR that has an Ethernet port to a wireless router.

    Since you have Internet router with LAN port, why do you need wireless bridge and then connect again LAN to DVR? I have a boat with no wired LAN internet router but I like to watch my CCTV cameras, so I used 4G router with 4 LAN ports and this is the case that we need whereas it's impossible to get land line support for router since it is all water around.
    Anyway, thanks for your upload.

      he has a DVR so far away from the TV and internet router coverage, so he needs a high gain bridge to get internet from the distance router, in your own case you have your dvr and tv close together and there is no distance barrier to overcome.

    Would it be possible to use a 100 foot cat7 ethernet cable that I saw on eBay to run across the yard out to the garage from the house? Or would that not work/ withstand the weather? Perhaps encased in an all-weather conduit? Is that too far to run a solid internet cable to your router from the DVR?

    • @cctvcamerapros
      @cctvcamerapros  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Myles, yes. CCTV Camera Pros ONLY recommends wireless as a last resort option. A hard wired connection is always our preference. In your situation, you should look into direct burial type cable if you are putting in the ground.

    • @drewpeacock8564
      @drewpeacock8564 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      CCTV Camera Pros thank you. The only other option I can think of is a powerline ethernet adapter that runs ethernet through your power lines. What are your thoughts on that set up? I don't want to waste a lot of money on products that will not work.

    • @cctvcamerapros
      @cctvcamerapros  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Myles, we have tested power line adapters over the years and similar to wireless, we only recommend as a last resort. If you want the most reliable network connection, there is nothing like hard wired Ethernet. The good news is that powerline adapters are cheap. So if you already have the garage on the same circuit as the house, it may be worth a try.

    Now I understand why security cameras must be hard wired. Is it because being wireless doesn't stream well (video frame rate seems to jerk a little), right? But what about those 4K wireless cameras that send the video to the recorder wirelessly and also send the signal to computers via wireless modem to view the video on monitor and other tablets, phones, etc.? Isn't there any problem with that? ATM I have security cameras hard wired to a recorder but the video is low quality and quite rubbish because the system used h264 video format that is poor image even at 10 meters you cannot recognize a person. But before I buy a new 4K system, I need to make sure I will not make the same mistake where video quality is shit, as you said, wireless stream speed is slow.
