    Great and honest review, thanks! Just a reminder that all the parts that suffer friction are CNC machined, not 3d printed. Top plates included (minute 8.55)

    I love my SHH. I needed a quiet option that did both H pattern and sequential so it was a perfect choice. I can confirm that you don't really need the sequential plate. I use mine in sequential mode frequently with the H pattern plate installed and it causes no issues.

    • @DouglasThompson
      @DouglasThompson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The creator of the SHH Shifter also confirmed it was not a necessity. The only reason I would recommend using it is if you are using it as a dedicated sequential or if you are driving LHD.

    Good review. I've had mine for around 2 years and it still works perfect. Nice to see they've made a couple of improvements in that time here and there too. You can also get custom logo designs on the case as well, which I haven't seen anyone else do. In my opinion the best shifter in this price range. The closest upgrade in terms of price is probably a VNM shifter, and that's 2-3 times the price.

      I'm gonna have to reach out to VNM again. See if they are willing to ship a review unit.

    • @DouglasThompson
      @DouglasThompson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Fanatec shifter is a nice piece. I'd say use that until you want something better then save up for a big dog shifter :) this feels better but it would be more of a lateral move than an upgrade.

  • @wazzup102
    @wazzup102 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've been learning to avoid accidental reverse with that H pattern and I see how this one would be even easier to slip into. My next move is to make an aluminum extrusion rig in a similar size to my own, I feel - I've not well managed to remove flex in mine, and it's even more noticeable with a shifter. Usable, but I am more interested in solving it now.

    Loved my SHH, they have refined it a bit since I got mine though.
    One tip, if you haven't already, try it with a heavy duty metal knob, makes a big difference to the feel, and also gives it a bit better sound.

  • @PatrickKline
    @PatrickKline 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I put a cheaper weighted shift knob on my SHH and it completely changed the feel of the shifter. The only shifter I have to compare it to is the garbage sloppy Logitech one so anything would feel better but driving semi trucks for 15 years and manual cars for 23 years the SHH with a weighted knob feels pretty damn good. I agree with your remark about the reverse gate. It does go in very easily and if you’re shifting fast you can push to far and throw it into reverse.

    • @DouglasThompson
      @DouglasThompson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never accidentally put it in reverse but it was always on my mind anytime I got near 5th or 6th (which I mapped as reverse).

  • @catnipherb

    I got mine in october. I enjoy using it. Except when you put it back to neutral, it goes to neutral very hard and makes a loud noise and I absolutely hate it. The spring isn't harsh when selecting a gear nor as loud. But going back to neutral, it is. I'll go on a eBay and buy a shorter/softer spring and mod it. SHH recently released their new model just this month - Thorn. A part of me half-regret buying SHH and wish I got Moza's instead.

    Great review! However it deserves another chance. First of all you forgot to use the included sequential knob. But most importantly the two screws under the knob that are parallel to each other are there to adjust the resistance. Tighter = heavier.
    Edit: I forgot that this was only for the vertical spring and not the horizontal one.

    • @DouglasThompson
      @DouglasThompson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I chose not to use the sequential knob since it just added unecessary girth. ;)

    How do you like the mounting by front and back M8 screws directly onto profile? Does it have some left- to right play? Considering the 4x M6 mount which is equal to the Fanatec shifter, but that does require an additional mounting plate (e.g. from Sim-Lab).

    • @DouglasThompson
      @DouglasThompson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I liked it a lot. I'd say depending on how it was mounted, it would have more or less flex. There were other body styles yo choose from for mounting situations, when you buy one he will ask you your rig situation to best fit what you have. But this was a pretty elegant design and if I would have mounted it better, you would have seen much movement at all.
      Keep in mind most of your energy is shifting forward or rearward not as much side forces.

      I had both and although the older SSH and I would say the SSH shifter felt better then the TH8 but not by miles in H pattern but a million times better in sequential. I’ve also found with the TH8 mods that they feel ok at first but wear out pretty quickly, never tried the Clixbeetle mod though so might hold up for longer.
      Personally if you switch between H and S I would go for the SSH if you only use H then maybe try the Clix. Seems there’s not a lot of mid tier shifters out there it’s either cheap and workable or realistic and super expansive.
