    Thanks Laurence and everyone else for your words. We are really overloaded and we apologize for it, but we can't really do anything about it... We are working as fast as we can but thanks to you all we are selling more than we can build... Please, if you order one, be patient, it finally arrives! :P

      Keep doing what you do! I hope that you are making some money from it! You deserve it so much. You are filling a gap in sim racing which is only occupied by you right now. I can’t imagine someone providing a better product for less money. We are very grateful!

      Mine arrived a few days ago, and it's great. I do believe that you should really make a metal version of this shifter, that would be amazing. The extra cost for the product would be justified. I'm going to line the inside of mine with rubber strips to lessen the clock-clock sound of the plastic. Well done, please keep up the good work!! Highly recommended.

      I love my shifter after having it for a year. If I had one suggestion to improve it would be to adapt the desk clamp mechanism to a single screw design with a knob (similiar to the TH8A's clamp) rather than the three smaller thumb screws currently in use. This would make it easier to clamp on an off. Otherwise, it's awesome.

      @@LaurenceDusoswa I hope this holds up. My case just split in two. I'm hoping it was an unfortunate fluke. I also feel the same about the company and their efforts, so I resisted making a video about my situation yet. There is a lot of praise for them, and I haven't found any negative experiences yet. I hope to not be the first. This just happened today at random playing WreckFest.

    This product works great out of the box, no fancy add-ons or overpriced mods required.
    Price plus shipping costs as much as Th8a to my location.
    The internal mechanism to change from H to Seq in 2secs is what sold me.

  • @JoernR

    Another one of Laurence's videos exactly representing my own experience and thoughts.
    Just nothing to add except: The manufacturer is a nice guy - extremely fast with answering questions and helping out; I got answers to stupid questions within a few hours. Quite a contrast to some other "FANAtic TEChnicians". But I guess I scared him a bit by offering free translations of his website and other documents into German. I am a pro translator, sometimes offering free translations for products I personally like and wish to support - but maybe he feared a kind of scam. :D
    Thank you, Laurence - for another "this is the real world" review without whistles and bells.

    At last, it's THE review
    It's one of the few simracing products that really deserves some spotlight, and judging from how they had to close the ability to buy it due to the backlog of orders they had, I think they finally got plenty of it.

    • @LaurenceDusoswa
      @LaurenceDusoswa  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s such a great little product. It’s unapologetic and over achieving. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed unless they have silly high expectations. I’d gladly use it as my main shifter.

  • @shhsimulation
    @shhsimulation 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    By the way, that black rubber that you can see over the thread adapter in the rod, it should be removed as soon as the shifter is unboxed... it is only a protection for the shipment hehehe. If you look closely, you will realize that it is not letting you insert the knob properly!

    • @LaurenceDusoswa

      I just picked up mine and have a suggestion.
      In the H-pattern mode with the six plus reverse plate, two slightly longer guide ramps to the left of fifth/sixth gear slots would allow for less missed shifts.
      I plan on having a friend 3D print one next week.
      The last thing I would suggest is a 90 degree USB down (B) cable for the side of the shifter. I just ordered one.

    I've had mine for over a year now and am still very happy with it. While a metal version might be nice, the engineering behind a change like that might not result in such an affordable option and may only serve to increase its cost.

    One part I noticed about a third of the way into the vid, you mentioned it has 3 unused button functions. In the future I could totally see them offering an "upgraded" version that integrates a button or switch or even toggle switch (resets to center and either way it's flicked is a button) that could be fed through the center rod to the circuit board. This would be awesome for truck simulator as it would give an insanely easy way to switch between ranges or split gears. A custom aftermarket mod to do this would also be most welcomed.
    Alternatively, it could be used as a simple button that, when pressed, acts as an e-brake in games. While not as good as a dedicated brake lever it would provide a very cheap and easy option for a lot of people, warranted they don't accidentally hit it while normally shifting.

    The switch between sequential and H pattern modes basically lets the SHH appear as two seperate devices. This has proven very handy in Assetto Corsa. I could not have set bindings for both at the same time otherwise and I believe the game even changes the shifter setup in response to the hardware it detects. So the shift between sequential and H-pattern is easy and the switch makes it extremely convenient on the game side of things too.

    • @LaurenceDusoswa
      @LaurenceDusoswa  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep 100% it’s a great device, well thought out and it’s wayyyyy better than you would think it is.

    • @digitalstyx_est.2018
      @digitalstyx_est.2018 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since this just picked up a like I want to clarify. The switch makes the PC see the sifter as a completely different device. So once it's setup as H-pattern once and then setup in sequential mode once switching between the modes should be just a matter of twisting the handle and flipping the switch with no complaints from the game assuming it's done from a menu not mid race of course. If the shifter is not recognized as an SHH it is no trouble at all to bind it as a generic controller for any game. Compatibility should never be an issue and if it is it's the game's fault. The only way switching from h-pattern to sequential can be easier is by having separate dedicated shifters.

    Thorn came out very recently. To replace the Newt2. I'm currently replacing the spring in my Newt2. Its too loud and harsh when you go back to neutral. And trying to find ways to weaken the torsion springs so it feels light when the gearbox goes left or right. Other changes I made is have the whole shifter facing back to front so I can have the reverse next to first gear instead of next to sixth gear. Remember to re-map sixth gear as first gear, fifth gear to second gear and so on.

    I so wish SHH would create an ATS shifter solution. Perhaps the knob could plug into a port added to future shifters, but even an SHH solution plugged in via it's own USB would likely make SHH the go to shifter for truck sims as alternative solutions are expensive and sometimes sketchy. None seem clearly compatible with the included SHH threaded adapter either. I actually haven't played ATS since getting my shifter because I don't want to use automatic while owning a shifter and I don't want to use keys or buttons on my wheel in place of switches on the shifter probably more so since I once hauled grain with an 18 wheeler for a season on a farm. Anything but the switches on the shifter is a severe setback to the truck driving experience especially when the game is otherwise bringing back the feelings of driving a real truck which for me was a special experience and privilege not just a job.

    the only negative thing I can say about my newt is due to the cable coming out of the housing on the right side, i need to mount it on the right, US style. I am Australian, so I prefer it on the left, but if I mounted it there, my leg would foul up against the cable header and possibly damage the USB plug on the board. Would you recommend the table clamp for a Simetik K3 cockpit? (Uses the same shifter mount that you have and shown at 5:20)
    As a potential downside, at 5:38 it looks like a fair bit of flex between the housing and the clamp. I'm not sure if the other mounting options would solve that though.
    For the upsides, I would like the flexibility of left/right positioning and low footprint of the clamp (so I can put a stream deck behind the shifter on the bracket, since the clamp is only 55mm deep)

    • @LaurenceDusoswa

    Thrustmaster feels way more solid with the (almost) full metal contruction. The flex in the mounting bracket on this is ridiculous... Also there is no way the plastic or carbon guide plates can compare to metal. They will definately break after some abuse. I would place this above G29 shifter but definately below the TH8A (especially with the click mod which does not cost that much).

    • @LaurenceDusoswa
      @LaurenceDusoswa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree on the flext, but the desk clamp has way less flex. I gave my SHH plenty of abuse over the space of several months and nothing broke. I'm just curious, have you owned/used the SHH?

      @LaurenceDusoswa  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have kicked the crap out of mine. Surprisingly robust. It’s the best value shifter on the market. It’s easy to judge based on looks I guess and yes it does look like a DIY toy. But it’s so much better :)

    • @SabbaticusRex

      @@LaurenceDusoswa To each their own ; I look for that robust and realistic 'ka-chunk' when shifting between gears . It is difficult to simulate linkages and their strange ways / forces of course . . It is more than just making the computer go from position 1 to position 2 for me - my first car was a 4 speed manual and when sitting at a light I would play with the shifter because it had such a satisfying mechanical way about it , yknow? - so I have my eye set on something like the Moza shifter for 149$ . It has that ka-chunk while not making me poor at the same time .

    I actually bought the newt2 version because of this review. So after using the shifter for a while, I've found that there's a manufacturing flaw in the mounting plate. After heavy use I found that there's a void (a gap) in the top plate ( the one that sits on top of the screws) on the "tooth" edges. If you use it very heavily it'll snap off because of the void, but it'll still function fine. Also, I'm not sure if it's because of my desk width of the smoothness of the material (or I might be yanking on it too hard idk) , I'm also finding myself having to constantly retightening the screws when I'm really using it.
