    One of the things you forgot to mention with 9 mm is it's the most common pistol round here in United States, it's stopping power is decent, shot placement increases the stopping power, but the fact is the round is plentiful so... if in a "shit hits the fan" scenario, the odds of me finding additional ammo is greatly increases versus many other handheld rounds especially in urban environments👍

      Very well said😂..I don’t have a 10mm so I carry 9mm for hoods and woods.I usually carry my P365XL Spector Comp.it’s the perfect CCW IMO.it’s plenty small enough to easily conceal and it holds 17+1.
      if I’m going into the woods,I like to carry the full-size P320.1)it holds 21+1 .2)it my favorite pistol and I put nearly $3K into that build.being a full-size gun,I don’t get to carry it that often.I put a lot of money into that gun and dammit,I want to carry it when I can😂I don’t like open carrying in public but when I’m in the wood,it’s gonna be on my hip
      I have a M17 as well but it doesn’t get much love anymore after I built my custom P320.

    Giggles - I was a .45 guy from 1982 to 1990 - then the Navy made us carry the Berretta on our flight harness (I still carried MY M1911 in my helmet-bag on all combat flights). Obviously, the Navy gave us a goodly amount of rounds for practice, and I came to LIKE and TRUST the Berretta after awhile.
    33 years later - I carry the SAME M1911 on my hip wandering around the ranch or for trips into town... but I ALSO have a SIG M18 for more "discrete" carry. Still though - as a rural guy - I am also carrying an AR or shotgun almost everywhere on the property .

    I carry a 9mm because
    1) my wrists are old and arthritic. A more powerful round would limit my practice time. There's something good about shooting 150+ rounds in practice.
    2) 9mm is effective enough
    3) 9mm is relatively inexpensive, especially if you reload them
    4) there are lot of options for reloading 9mm, I just reloaded 150 Hornady XTP for less cost than purchasing three boxes of range ammo. (Nov 2023 prices for ammo, 2022 prices for primers and powder)
    5) my shoulder is old and arthritic, so a 9mm carbine is easy to shoot as well
    6) my carry is 10+1, that should be enough, but if it isn't there is another 10 round mag in the holster

    • @DevonBagley
      @DevonBagley 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This doesn't make any sense. "I carry one of the highest charged handgun rounds because anything more powerful would be hard on my wrists."
      The .40 is the same sized round with less powder behind it. In fact it was created for the FBI to replace the 9mm to reduce recoil. Going with a .38 might even make more sense. It's the round I most recommend for people with weaker wrists that want something a little more powerful.

    • @phild8095

      @@DevonBagley 40 S&W loads 350 to 500 foot pounds of muzzle energy, 9mm Luger between 300 and 400. 38 special is less, but I don't want to carry and practice with a revolver. 380 ACP is less, but is even more ineffective out of typical carry guns.

    1. As a reloader for my target ammo, the brass is everywhere and friends will give it to you free
    2. cheaper to train with
    3. easier to shoot accurately due to the mild recoil
    4. Capacity is king in a REAL gunfight. No one every said "I wish these 17 round mags were only 10 round".

    I used to be a bigger is better guy, especially when it came to pistol caliber. My first EDC's were chambered in .45 ACP. But I found it more expensive to train with, especially when this country regularly goes through economic recessions and ammo shortages. 9mm was always easier and cheaper to obtain. Also my defensive handgun trainer made a good case for switching as well; 1) recoil is generally easier to manage and 2) more ammo capacity.

Then I talked to a Marine friend and he told me about the M9 Beretta that was issued at the time. I liked the feel of the M9. So I purchased a 92X. 17 rounds gives my a little bit more firepower if needed. Plus the accuracy is much better. My first 5 round group was in a 6 inch circle. Not bad for not firing in 45 years. Must be that muscle memory. Thanks Colion.

Very few companies create true 10mm like it was originally loaded nowadays, Buffalo Bore being one of them. May I bring one more thought? I am arthritic in my hands. I'm not crippled in that regard or anything like that, but I definitely don't have the grip that I once did. I have shot a couple .45s. Frankly the kick on those that I've shot make my hands really hurt. So I have a 9mm, I also own the Browning 85% 1911 .380. That one isn't much better than a .22 (I also have the 85% 1911 .22) but if we're talking shot placement, I can hit exactly what I want with that gun. I do the best that I can with what I have in my ability. Wish it didn't hurt so much with the bigger rounds. 🤷‍♂

Modern defense ammunition performs very well. 2 - Low recoil as most shooters do not have the money too shoot enough to be competent. . 3 firearm's size. While I use to compete with a 1911 in .45ACP and believe it to be MY FAVORITE defense firearm and caliber, the micro carry guns can be BRUTAL in recoil. My first carry gun was a target modified Colt Combat Commander, but that's a bit heavy. 9mm provides a sweet spot for most defensive carry.

    Colion, that was fun. Why do I carry a 9mm? It was the caliber I was required to carry in the twilight of a long career. I started in law enforcement at the age of 20 in a small town in Vermont. I had to buy my own gun, which took ATF approval because I was under age. It was a S&W Mdl 67 .38 Special. At 21 I joined the Army as an MP and was issued and trained on a 1911 .45 ACP. After a few years I was accepted into CID and was issued a S&W Mdl 60 snub nose .38 Special, which I carried until I went to the crime lab as a forensic examiner. In 2010, I became a civil service CID agent and was issued an M11 (P228), which carried until the big change. In 2017 the Army adopted the M17 and M18, and CID for the first time allowed agents to carry their own guns with restrictions. Our personal carry guns had to be 9mm and on an 'approved' list of sidearms. My choice was (and still is) a Sig P320 Compact. If towards the end of my career I was required to use a different caliber that is probably what I would be carrying today. As I have said in other comments I have made, I don't care what caliber you carry. I care about what caliber you train and practice with. All of the reasons you have given for why some people chose to carry a 9mm I never gave any thought too, until long after it no longer mattered.

    I always thought the 9mm and 5.56 were created for maximum carrying capacity in theater. You can carry twice as many 9mm in the same space as 45 for example by weight and size. (This is my theory) for example, lee enfeild rifled in 303 would add so much battle weight most soldiers wouldn’t even make it to the fight or if they did they would quickly need to reload supply. But an armalite and 5.56 a soldier can carry so much more and be more efficient on the field.
    Just a thought.

    • @presidentmerkinmuffley6769
      @presidentmerkinmuffley6769 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      .223/5.56 was developed directly with that in mind. Volume of fire.
      9mm was developed because the Germans weren't fully satisfied with 7.65 Parabellum. So old Georg Luger made it essentially a straight wall cartridge at 9mm so as to not have to massively redesign parts and tooling for the Luger pistol that the Germans were eyeballing to adopt.

      Well I know for a fact you can carry 2 to sometimes 3 (depending on grain weight) 5.7x28mm to one 9x19mm round.
      So if weight penalty versus capacity is your primary driver, you can carry 70 rounds (3 mags plus gun) of PSA RK1 in 5.7x28mm for less overall weight as 35 rounds 9x19mm (G19 plus two mags).
      Not that you would, but that you could...
      You can argue efficacy of the larger round, but you can do the same argument for 5.56x45mm and 7.62x51mm, which was the OP's original point. Just food for thought.

    • @Kevinhobbytime
      @Kevinhobbytime ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mv223 yeah but it sort of gets more extreme for a handgun i would think. 17+1 for a glock in 9mm is more ammo per size than a 40 cal glock per stick right? I dont personally know, thats why i said its my theory. But i imagine the mags are similar size and much different capacity the higher the caliber. Capable of single stacking versus double stacking mags in the same sized frame? Just take a revolver for example, 8-10 rounds of .22 or one of those 500mags holds 5-6? And the 500mag is twice as heavy and much larger and unwieldy. The 9mm is sort of a balance between the two. Effective in all cases, weight, availability, shoot ability, capacity etc. as i said, just my theory, everyone has their own preference.

      @homelessman3483 that's just factually incorrect. 9mm is most common but plenty of officers carry .40 and even .45

      @@homelessman3483 that's not the reason cops all carry 9 mil. It's cost effective. Plain and simple. There are dozens of examples of cops being outgunned.

    My 1st gun was a Glock 23 chambered in .40 s&w. I love this gun but I’ve gravitated to the 1911 platform because I have small hands. I’m not a caliber snob, it’s more about what I’m doing and where I’m going. My favorite carry gun is a full size 1911 in 38 super.

    Garand thumb did a review on the nine millimeter versus the forty five, and he found that if you're using hollow points, it really doesn't matter because both will get the job donequally is efficient

    I chose a M92fs because of its simplicity and its a great teaching gun to help get any newbie started on the basics. Not sure if the military still uses it today but I know at one point it was the handgun most branches used to teach with.

      A friend of mine has 2 of them, he used to build them at the Beretta plant in MD before they left the state. I had never fired one until the other day. That is one of the nicest shooting guns I've ever experienced. Very nice trigger, very little recoil, just a very easy gun to shoot.

    I'm not a 9mm fan per say. But I carry a Glock 43x (with shield mags) and I like it for a lot of reasons. I prefer a 40. Yeah, it's an in between round. BUT in the 9mm's favor, I am a big fan of ammo and clip sharing between my carry pistol and my pistol caliber carbine. 9mm and Glock clips seem to fit the bill the best. 9 will do the job in most circumstances. It's cost effective, even buying high end ammo. It all comes down to knowing how to use your weapon and the circumstances that dictate what round you carry. love your channel. GBA.
